184 A LIE OR A SURPRISE
Bai Chen suddenly felt dizzy, and he even suspected that it might be because he was hungry. It was almost lunchtime, and that was why he assumed it was his stomach that was making his head spin.
Werewolves usually had a big appetite, but Bai Chen rarely thought about his stomach after he transmigrated into this world. He kept getting into trouble in this world, and that was why he didn’t think much of food even if it was in his nature to care.
Now when he suddenly felt discomfort in his body, he foolishly thought it was because of his empty stomach, but he knew that it was not the main cause. Instead, he felt uncomfortable because of what Zhu Ge had just said to him.
“So, you believe Ma Qiao is working for my brother all this time?” Bai Chen tried to deduce what Zhu Ge had said to him, but he still needed the man to confirm his conclusion.
And all he could get from the taller man was a nod, and it looked like the man wasn’t hesitant with his assumption.
Bai Chen could tell that Zhu Gr was confident with his opinion, but he still had some questions in his heart as he asked, “Just now you said that you saw Ma Qiao secretly talking to my brother a few weeks ago when you thought I fainted, right? Can you tell me the details?”
Before Bai Chen could decide, he wanted to hear a further explanation of the events, and he patiently waited for more detailed information from the other man.
“As I said before, I couldn’t hear their conversation because I wasn’t standing close to them at the time,” Zhu Ge replied. “They spoke seriously and in low voices, but it didn’t take long until your brother left your old servant. By then, I was already feeling suspicious, and that’s why I immediately went to your servant to ask what was his relationship with your brother.”
“What?” Bai Chen suddenly replied in surprise. “You immediately came to Ma Qiao to inquire about that? Rather than secretly investigating their relationship, you chose to reveal that you had witnessed their interaction?”
.....
Bai Chen looked in disbelief as he questioned Zhu Ge, but the taller man simply shrugged his shoulders before replying, “I was curious then, and I thought it wouldn’t be a big problem even if I directly questioned your old servant. However, his expression immediately became pale when I asked him that question, and I knew that I shouldn’t have asked him the question right away.”
“...” Bai Chen facepalmed. He thought Zhu Ge was quite witty, but he had just witnessed how that man could be so stupid as well, and it even left him speechless.
“You idiot,” Bai Chen muttered to himself as he gritted his teeth.
It was indeed just a mutter spoken in a low voice, but Zhu Ge caught it as he replied, “Judging from your reaction, it seems that you finally believe my words?”
It was a question from Zhu Ge, but for some reason, the man sounded convinced that Bai Chen almost thought that the man had just uttered a statement.
“I’m still considering it,” Bai Chen replied calmly. “After all, Ma Qiao has been with me since I was a child, while you only came into my life no more than a month ago. It’s understandable that I still can’t decide now, right?”
“...” Zhu Ge did not answer this time.
There was a hint of disappointment on his face after hearing Bai Chen’s answer, but after thinking for a moment, he sighed before replying, “Take your time. If you still can’t decide, then I’ll try to find more valid evidence to help you decide.”
Judging from the man’s serious expression, it seemed that Zhu Ge was telling the truth, but Bai Chen didn’t want to immediately believe the man. ‘Whether in this life or my previous life, many people are fake, so I can’t just trust them if I don’t want to be fooled by them,’ he thought.
Such doubts were indeed in Bai Chen’s head, but he nodded his head before asking, “You said that you came to pick me up at the Imperial Palace because you had something you wanted to tell me, right? What was it?”
Instead of getting an immediate response from the taller man, Bai Chen witnessed how the man slapped his own forehead hard and forcefully, and Bai Chen even frowned at the sight.
“Right! I almost forgot about that!” Zhu Ge groaned as he remembered his intention to come to the Imperial Palace. “I left your palace to meet someone this morning.”
The frown on the Prince’s forehead remained as he replied, “I also just remembered that I didn’t see you in my palace this morning. It turns out that you left my palace, ah? Where did you go? Why didn’t you tell me that you were leaving my palace earlier?”
Not enough with one question, several questions finally came out of Bai Chen’s mouth after hearing Zhu Ge’s confession.
This morning, he had only met Ma Qiao before the old servant accompanied him to the meeting at the Imperial Palace. It was true that he had not seen Zhu Ge’s shadow this morning, but he had no idea that the man would be leaving his palace then.
“I didn’t mean to sneak behind you, but I just wanted to surprise you,” Zhu Ge smirked shamelessly even after he heard how Bai Chen cynically attacked him with a few questions.
The man called Zhu Ge was indeed shameless and suspicious, and Bai Chen narrowed his eyes at the man as he asked again, “What kind of surprise did you find for me?”
Maybe it was just another nonsense from the man in red, but Bai Chen still questioned the man, and the man once again smirked before replying, “I went to see Wu Jinhai this morning, and I told him that you wanted to meet him. He said that he agreed to meet you tonight.”
