345 MY WIFE IS MISSING ME
“ACHOO!” Wu Jinhai stupidly sneezed when he should have infiltrated Dong Lang in secret.
Currently, he had managed to enter Dong Lang without breaking the barrier set up by the demons, and that was because he had chosen to enter via the river at the peak of Mount Heping.
Now he was still near the top, and no wonder he felt chills all over his body because of the heavy snow that covered his surroundings. The area was indeed covered in snow and had an extremely low temperature, and that was why he didn’t see anyone there. Maybe he was lucky enough that no one heard how stupid he sneezed just now.
“I think someone is talking about me behind my back. Or maybe it’s just my wife missing me so much,” Wu Jinhai muttered to himself as he walked down the snow mountain, and the grip around Wu Jiang’s hilt tightened at the thought of Bai Chen.
He didn’t actually plan to take Wu Jiang with him. He intended to leave the sword with Bai Chen so that it could protect the man, but Bai Chen forced him to bring the sword instead. That was why he had no choice but to listen to his wife. In the end, Wu Jiang was with him when he was in Dong Lang now.
“Those people from the Black Werewolf Clan and those stinking demons act like they are very smart with how they set up the barriers and such, but they don’t even think about how vulnerable the area around the river is. Sure enough, they are just a bunch of idiots,” Wu Jinhai continued his monologue as he walked down the mountain.
It was already past midnight, and a normal person would feel scared to be alone on the snowy mountain that was engulfed by darkness. Perhaps even animals wouldn’t dare to live in the area, but Wu Jinhai could calmly walk down the mountain as if he wasn’t afraid of anything.
It was probably true that the masked man was not afraid of anything. If he could tell the truth, the only thing he feared was the possibility of Xinyang Imperial Palace falling into the hands of bad people. The men who had killed his mother many years ago silently eyed his father’s throne, and that was the only thing that could frighten him to this day. Aside from that, Wu Jinhai had nothing to fear.
It seemed that the forest on Mount Heping didn’t have any clues he could pick up, which was why he kept walking to leave the area. He wanted to see what kind of demons were helping the bastards of the Black Werewolf Clan, and that was why he had no choice but to find a place where he could see them.
.....
As he continued walking down the mountain, he could suddenly feel something, and that was why his steps stopped as he grew alert. When he used his keen ears to listen to his surroundings better, there didn’t seem to be anything out of the ordinary, but he was sure he heard something, and that was why he became even more alert as he tightened his grip around Wu Jiang’s hilt.
As a few seconds passed, the strange sound became louder in his ears, and he looked at the ground when he could guess where the sound was coming from. Realizing the danger, Wu Jinhai immediately jumped from his position and landed on a tree branch in an instant.
From the tree branch, his pair of golden eyes could see something moving underground. It was something big and long, and he thought he knew what it was. He smirked as he continued to survey his surroundings, but then he discovered that there were many things underground, and he finally realized something.
“Turns out that bastard isn’t that stupid. There aren’t any guards to be seen around the river in this mountain, but there are guards underground. Quite clever, ah,” Wu Jinhai once again spoke to himself, but his face that was hidden behind the golden mask remained calm despite knowing the danger around him.
He was still standing on the tree branch, and finally, the creatures that had previously been hiding underground showed themselves with spectacular movements as they leaped from the ground into the black sky, and Wu Jinhai had to jump onto another tree when one of them stuck out his long tongue to attack him.
“I’m not wrong. They are Snake Demons, after all,” he muttered to himself as he landed on another tree branch after successfully dodging the demon’s attack.
The Snake Demon had the appearance of being half snake and half human. Coming down from their bellies, they looked like snakes, but from chest to head, they looked like humans. That was why they couldn’t walk on two legs like normal humans, and they could only use their bodies to move on the ground.
However, unlike ordinary snakes, Demon Snakes could also jump in the air using their tails, and their main weapon was their venomous tongue. They did have a harmful tongue, and if they managed to catch their prey with their tongue, the tongue would absorb the prey’s energy, and in the end, the demon would swallow the corpse without leaving a trace.
Thankfully, Wu Jinhai was no amateur when it came to demons, and that was why he wasn’t surprised by the Snake Demon’s attack. He could also dodge the deadly tongue, and his body was unharmed.
It turned out that only one Snake Demon was trying to attack him with its tongue, and now the demon had also placed its body on another tree branch not far from where Wu Jinhai was standing, and Wu Jinhai could see how more than a dozen Snake Demons were guarding the ground beneath him, not allowing him to run away so easily.
Wu Jinhai was trapped, but he didn’t look scared, and he could even casually look at the demon perched on the tree branch as he said, “You are the leader of the Snake Demon, right? I once destroyed one of your subordinates’ den, and now I’m right in front of you. What are you going to do with me?”
