The Coalition had finally arrived, their fighter jets had sent down an airstrike that hit the area around the portal where the arms are coming from in a triangular formation with the portal right in its center.
"Missiles, inbound!"
"Roger, that."
"Boom. Boom. Boom."
Sun Squadron reported their successful hit and was about to go back for confirmation when a feeling of weightlessness came up. The whole squadron became unable to feel any of the g-force they were used to having whenever they were in this cockpit.
"Roar!"
"Ahhh!" A signal coming from Sun 3, the last one to launch his missile. The scream was short lived however as the signal came and went like a blink.
"Nooo!" Another signal came from Sun 2, similar to how Sun 3 was, it flashed by like a blink. Sun 1 was now feeling restless at the lack of any response. He had made full thrust just now, but not a single change happened. He can still hear the engine roar but the expected speed was nowhere to be found.
"This is Sun 1, requesting confirmation of enemy's loc- Screech. Crunch."
The last signal arrived, making the Head Commander who was listening in to feel gazes all around him. Their eyes were seeking orders, as they didn't comprehend what to do in this situation. Chu Yang stood up, pointing towards the ground control who has been until now, expecting the replies of the Sun Squadron.
"Send in Team A. Set up a perimeter around that thing."
"Send Team B to evacuate the civilians! No one is allowed to be on standby, follow your orders."
Ground control had given up on receiving another signal as they heeded the Head Commander's orders. Their silence had proven that the worst had happened, so they had to make the most out of the information they had gathered from that incident.
"Inform all units, do not approach the damn thing! Wait for confirmation from the command center!"
"Sir! Yes, sir!"
Chu Yang wondered about what the Coalition's next actions should be as employing more formidable weapons made it harder to receive the public's approval especially when using those would not even be a guaranteed success. Nevertheless, the removal of any stray civilians from the surroundin area would open up that possibility should the need arise.
"Commander, the chief has called for you."
A deputy officer stood beside the thinking Chu Yang while holding over a phone. Chu Yang received the phone and overheard a stern voice from the other side.
"Head Commander, is the situation under control?"
"Affirmative, sir! We've already delivered a clean hit at the enemy. The situation at hand in under our absolute control"
"Good! As expected of my son! Keep up the good work, and don't be complacent. We have no idea what that beast is capable of, do not hold back!"
"Understood!"
Chu Yang offered the phone that presently merely gave out a dial tone back to the officer. He looked at the visuals of the thing, an 'Abdicate' as Oculus had dubbed it. He recalled how the damn thing was described as a disaster on the level of a super typhoon, but this. This was too much.
"Sir, Team A has reported a peculiar phenomenon happening at the portal."
The drones that were recording the thing from far away had closed in to confirm. The pair of arms were coming from a hole in the air, the arms looked as if they were jammed and are trying to get out. It was when the drones had approached a little closer that another thing had seized their attention. An eye.
"Good! We have prepared for this!"
Chu Yang was already well aware of what these things could do as Oculus's information had reported on them being creatures that have been accustomed to mana from other dimensions. If he didn't have the system himself, he would dismiss the idea the very moment he heard of them and labeled it as 'False Information'. However, the more he read about the information provided by Oculus, the less room he had for doubts.
'Classes are best chosen at Level 5, when the ranker has mastery of their talent. This makes it easier to organize their points to maximize their potential.'
He had been lingering at Level 5 for a while and was wondering when he should use his 'Class Assignment Crystal' when he read this. Choosing to get the class 'Ice Mage' after giving it a little thought. Something simple meant he could get a broad number of skills, something the information had also given details about.
He had once believed the Oculus could be a group of people who had a spy in his organization but the information they have gathered had surpassed what could be from simple intelligence theft. It contained things that not even them knew, like a wide variety of things the system had not provided information on that proved useful. But the information he read at the final page had caused him believe the information 100 percent.
'Chu Yang, a level 5 ranker with the talent 'Frost' that enables him to produce and manipulate ice. Class: Ice Mage'
"What the shit?!"
He had only determined his class an hour ago, the fact that his information was reportedly given to them two days ago meant they were more than just simple intelligence gathering abilities, it was borderline clairvoyant.
He was unable to put down the information that he analyzed them for two weeks straight, bringing the best minds of the Coalition with him. They analyzed the information and prepared plans for things that could happen based on this gift from the Oculus.
"Is there any abdicate in the database that embodies characteristics based on this creature?"
Chu Yang asked Bessy who oversaw the translation of the information into a database that they can access if the need arises. One that they required right now.
"No, sir! The abdicate we have visual on exhibits characteristics that are in the database, but they don't match just one abdicate. Moreover, its eyes are not listed at all."
"Its eyes?"
Chu Yang looked at the eye to see if anything makes it special. The eye looked similar to that of a human's eye in structure just that it's similar to a vending machine in size. Those sinister blue eyes were staring at the drones like it was curious, but then again, it was looking everywhere at the same time.
'Blue eyes?'
"Blue eyes!"
Chu Yang looked at the thing in unabashed fear. His hands trembled as he tried to calm himself down by rewinding the information he had read about the abdicates before.
'Abdicates are typically labeled based on their destructive ability and the complexity of their bodies. Some may be humanoid while others were not even familiar to any form we have ever discovered on earth. The most common theme between these creatures is that their rankings were like how ours is, with Red being the lowest and Violet being the strongest.'
"Inform the men to flee after evacuating all the civilians. I'll head there myself."
Gin couldn't help but worry. The man's condition may look pristine but the expression the Head Commander had earlier was clearly imprinted in his mind. He took out every ounce of courage in him and shouted out loud.
"But sir! You are the Head Comman-"
"Exactly, I'm the Head Commander. What I say, goes."
Chu Yang had looked at the men who sacrificed their lives to protect the civilians, and his eyes couldn't help but redden. He took to his own team, the three men who had been personally directed by him. Ed, Edd and Eddy, the triplets who vowed to follow him as long as he doesn't give up on Cina. Presently, it is time to show them exactly how he does his work.
"Let's go."
It was when they were preparing themselves that Gin saw the image being projected grow more vivid. The thing had a very fury body. Its arms were 30 meters long each. Its eyes were similar to a human's where a blue iris and an indigo pupil were in the center while being surrounded by white flesh. Its eyes seemed to glow in a specific pattern, glowing brighter each time it completes a cycle.
Chu Yang had checked out his status and placed every free point into something that might help. The four were about to ride a helicopter that was prepared beforehand when another shout came from within. It was the same man who urged him not to leave, and he was holding on to a phone.
"Sir! I remember reading about that thing before. I've seen it in my files!"
Gin flailed his arms while shouting loudly. He pointed at his phone as he did. That was when Chu Yang suddenly vanished and appeared right in front of him. He picked up Gin's body with his mana and hauled him to the helicopter himself. When Gin finally realized where he is, he saw the four men were looking at him sternly.
"Where's the damn file!"
.....
The civilians have ultimately stopped panicking as soon as the Coalition arrived. They made occupied two circular formations with one being 50 meters away from the hole in the sky and another surrounding the 3-kilometer radius of the hole. The men and women of the Coalition received their own assignments, with those in the outer circle being given the task of safely evacuating the civilians towards the main base, back in the main district. But the rest are placing themselves around the hole in the sky as they examined the arms protruding from the hole grab on to the ground.
One of the Coalition officers watched on in fear of the thing as it seemed to be pulling the ground, the hole gradually moving with it. The men have completely been preparing different artillery weapons to bomb the thing when the orders come, and then it came.
"Sir, the Head Commander has issued the order to retreat! All officers under the level of 4 are to join the civilians in evacuating to the main base. Other officers are to stand by!"
Jerry didn't catch the order the first time, thinking he heard wrong. However, the men and women who were already retreating made it clear that he indeed hears the order correctly and he couldn't help but think aloud.
"I thought we were going to confront that thing?"
It was then that the sound of a helicopter heading straight for his location became audible. He looked at the insignia on the helicopter and saw that it was a circle with a pair of praying hands inside with five stars on top of them.
"There! That's a Heftpound! A more tremendous variation of it. They fight by using their claws that they coat with their mana to produce intense waves of energy. If the data are to be trusted, that eye color would mean it is a Blue ranked abdicate, able to match a Red ranked abdicate 4 levels higher than itself. The data say that an abdicate's size is a measure of it's level, since beings like them have adapted to mana more than us."
Gin looked towards the hole where the abdicate's lifeless blue eyes were staring at them. Seemingly aware of their presence and it made him feel exposed. Like a predator looking at an easy prey.
"Normal abdicates have a height of less than 3 meters, corresponding to Level 1. Every 3 meters represent an increase in Level. We cannot see it's actual height but if we base it on those arms, it could be a level 5 Blue rank abdicate."
"Which means it's able to fight three classless Level 5's of the Blue Rank"
Chu Yang's black eyes produced a blue light coming from them. His surroundings were giving off an extraordinary white smoke that made it hard to breathe, as if they were being thrown into a snow-capped mountain. He looked at Gin as the man's shaking body had made it hard for him to read more from his phone. Chu Yang then retracted his aura and placed his hand over the man's shoulder.
"Good work soldier! Leave the rest to us. Amanda, take control of the evacuation situation."
"Yes, sir!"
Amanda looked on as Chu Yang and the triplets jumped off the helicopter that was 40 meters off the ground. Her ability was 'Barrier' which made it possible to produce a sheet of mana that can block anything she desires, though it wasn't worthy enough to handle such a large abdicate like that. She was still Level 3 after all, but she was held in high regards by the Head Commander so she had a decent future ahead of her.
"Bang!" Chu Yang landed first, his feet causing cracks on the asphalt road that went as wide as half a meter. The triplets, on the other hand, had suddenly decreased their momentum just as their bodies were to hit the ground. Chains appeared over the air that hoisted them up just when they were a few meters above the ground.
Eyes have turned towards the Head Commander as he released the aura he had kept back all this time, unleashing the extensive capabilities of a Level 5 Blue rank with a talent related class. His 'Ice Wizard' class had granted him a few abilities that he didn't identify was going to be given to him when he initially selected it.
[Ice Wizard: A master of the ice element.
*Grants the Wizard Title
*Unlocks Ice Condensation
*Gives the user Intelligence - +(Level)
*Raises user's affinity to ice]
His newfound abilities enabled him to surround himself in ice and not experience the burning sensation that occurs when a warm body meets a bitingly cold temperature. Right now he had discovered some creative ways to control ice that he was extremely excited to use against the abdicate. He looked towards the expecting eyes of the members of the Coalition and smiled.
Chu Yang subsequently narrowed his eyes, not minding that the abdicate had let go of the ground at had promptly stopped moving. Its arms were raised high up in the air as a layer of frost appeared on them. The frost had turned more pronounced as it spread out, until finally the abdicate became encased in rock hard ice. It was then that Chu Yang's eyes widened, and a pillar of ice brought him at eye level with the abdicate's giant eye. He turned around and looked at the people who have their mouths agape from the demonstration of his power.
"Today the Coalition will show itself to the world! On this day the men and women of the Coalition will defeat this monster that threatens Cina, that threatens the world! We, the Coalition, will share our power to the world should the need arise! This beast is only the first of them, the first of the abdicates!"
Chu Yang then looked at the triplets who all sat down and made themselves comfortable. Their significantly smaller aura had coagulated into their center as it condensed into an empty giant pot made of mana.
"This abdicate will serve as the Coalition's first demonstration. That the world is evolving, that the world requires us!"
The pot of mana then shook, its insides slowly becoming filled.
"I am Chu Yang!"
It was then that the ice that held together the abdicate's arms cracked. Chu Yang subsequently turned to it and placed more ice until the cracks are not only refilled, the ice practically doubled in size. He sighed in relief as he thought about the embarrassment of having failed to subdue it after his speech. Unfortunately, he was too early in celebrating.
"Roar!"
The hole in the sky had enlarged as a head came out. Its arms were still encased in ice, but the rest of the upper body had finally shown itself, and it wasn't as big as the thought it would be. It was considerably more massive.
"21 meters..."
Gin who was watching proudly from the air saw the abdicate's flat face. It had one lone eye in the center while only having an enormous mouth. No ears, no nose, just one enormous eye and one giant mouth. It opened its mouth to show two rows of incisor teeth.
"Everyone, retreat!"
Chu Yang felt the ice breaking as the abdicate's arm glowed blue. He subsequently seized the triplets along with him as he placed both of his hands on the ice below him. The ice pillar now spread out ice around the ground surrounding it. When the ice was about to grasp the ones closest to him, they piled up to produce more pillars of ice that raised the members of the Coalition.
The Heftpound's raised arms were currently free, yet they stayed in the air for a while. The pale fur growing more sable, turning into a deep blue color. When the arms were fully coated in blue, the abdicate then smashed it down towards the ground.
"No! Bang!" A massively violent shock wave passed over the ground, lifting everything within a 2-km radius to the sky as everything was turned to shit. The pillars of ice were ridiculously short as they collapsed under the pressure. Chu Yang himself could do nothing but hope for the best as he created a ball of ice around him and the triplets.
'Please!'
It was only a few seconds later that the rumbling stopped. When he opened a hole over the ice, he saw the four of them were already a few hundred meters away from their previous location. Pools of blood and meat were spread around as dust and rocks were the only things visible. The speechless Chu Yang felt his blood boil in anger while staring at that one enormous eye, that mocking eye.
"Roar!"
