Chapter 4 – I Had Her Write Some Words on My Omurice
“Um… So… Erm, well…”
“……”
Fujisaki-san’s sister repeatedly opened and closed her mouth to say something.
I just stared at her in silence. No, it’s not that I can’t talk, it’s just that I can’t think of anything to say because I didn’t expect to see her again in a place like this.
“What’s wrong, Kotone-chan?”
Another maid noticed the state of Fujisaki-san’s sister. She looked at me and her in turn and gave me a dubious look.
Hmm? Doesn’t this situation look bad?
There are tears in the corner of Fujisaki-san’s sister’s eyes because she’s too troubled. And I’m the only one in front of her. It would look like I’m picking on her.
“I-I’ll order this omurice. The one with the maid’s drawings!”
“Y-Yes, master!”
I hurriedly ordered a menu. Fujisaki-san’s younger sister nodded roughly while shaking her twin-tail hair.
Fujisaki-san’s sister withdrew to the back and the other maid also withdrew her dubious look.
I’m safe now. I lean my weight on the backrest.
There’s a reason why Fujisaki-san’s sister was distraught. I just panicked because she panicked. I was spotted visiting a maid café alone, and that’s not a bad thing at all!
Our school rules forbid part-time jobs. What would the penalty be if she was found out? I don’t think she would be expelled at once, but I think it would be a serious matter. You would have to have special circumstances to be allowed to work.
And yet, she was spotted by a student from the same school…
If we hadn’t known each other, I would have remained unaware as we are in different grades, but unfortunately, Fujisaki-san’s sister got involved with me.
It was nothing more and nothing less than lending and borrowing an umbrella. It’s a fact that can be ignored and pretended to have never existed.
But she didn’t ignore me. She saw my face and knew exactly who I was.
“T-Thank you for waiting… Nyan.”
It was a very basic “nyan”.
I looked up and saw Fujisaki-san’s sister putting the omurice I ordered on the table. It’s probably my fault that her smile is awkward. I’m sorry I came.
“Um… What would you like me to write on that omurice?”
She asked me awkwardly. Come to think of it, I wonder if I can get a maid to draw a picture.
“Anything?”
“Y-Yes. If I can do it.”
I gave it some thought. It can be written or drawn. Of course, it would be out of the question to make a maid write anything naughty. If a big, strong man comes out from the back, I’ll be in trouble. I don’t know if there’s anyone like that in maid cafes, though.
“Then… Write, ‘I love you.’”
“Eh?”
The junior girl maid froze.
“Is something like that not allowed?”
“N-No… I’ll do my best.”
Her hands holding the ketchup are trembling. It seems like it was a terrible order.
“Well then, here I go!”
She was very determined. Her face was bright red, even her ears were red. I could tell how she felt.
Fujisaki-san’s sister bent over and wrote letters in ketchup on the omurice. “I love you,” she wrote in handwriting better than I expected. The writing was more beautiful than the handwriting I write in my class notes.
“W-What do you think!”
“Yes. It’s fine.”
“Thank you!”
She smiled happily at me, even though it might have been reckless.
Satisfied, Fujisaki-san’s sister turned around to leave. But then, she turned around once again and put her face close to mine.
What the h**l!? I was struggling to keep my inner impatience from showing on my face when I heard a gentle whisper in my ear.
“Aida-senpai… I would like to have a word with you. May I have a moment of your time after this?”
Her breath tingled in my ear. I nodded my head in response.
“Thank you very much. I will have a break in 30 minutes, let’s talk then.”
And with that, she left the table. She didn’t cast any magic to make the omurice taste better.
What does she want to say to me? My heart is pounding really fast… Well, it’s not like she’s going to say anything that will make my heart flutter.
Don’t tell the school that she’s working part-time here. That’s probably what she’s going to say. In the first place, there’s nothing else to talk about between me and the junior girl.
She doesn’t trust me enough that she has to warn me. Well, we’ve only just met the other day. But that’s exactly why I don’t think I’d do anything if she’d just ignore me…
“……”
I stuck my spoon into the omurice with the word “I love you” written in large letters.
I know it seems like a waste, but I have to eat the food. I don’t know how they made it, but the omurice with ‘I love you’ written on it was better than the one I had at the usual family restaurant.
