Chapter 31: Husky In Dilemma

Chapter 31: Husky In Dilemma

After being exposed to Xinxin's suave screaming chicken and Nian's magical zipper bag that could appear and disappear at will, Jin Jiuchi could easily guess that the torch in Zhi's hand was also a prop. Thus he no longer gasped and wow-ed like a countryside kid. Instead, he pointed at the man whose figure was almost buried amidst the labyrinth of silk and asked the people behind him, incredulous. "Is he allowed to do that?"

At once, Tang Ye and Xinxin's eyes snapped to Sister Hong who had her arms crossed in a holier-than-thou posture as usual. She raised her chin and harrumphed, "Someone has to go check the room out either way, so what's wrong with him going? Otherwise, do you want to replace him?"

Jin Jiuchi blinked at her slowly and tilted his head to the side, trying and failing to keep the corner of his lips from raising. "I can...?"

Now that Sister Hong was offering, how could Jin Jiuchi bring himself to refuse? How many times could someone stumble upon this bizarrely beautiful scene in their lifetime? Once? Twice? If Jin Jiuchi did not try it out, then it would be his loss! His teeth were already itching when he lay his gaze on the soft strands of black silk for the first time.

He wanted to throw himself into it! He wanted to roll around inside and had the silk cocooned around him tightly!! Would it be as soft and fluffy as Nian'er's hair or would it be sharp enough to slice a chunk of flesh off his body? Either way, all that was lost could be re-grown back, but this kind of experience was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Only a fool would miss it!!

"You... what?" Sister Hong was so shocked that she could only gawk at him. "You want to go inside?" She was only saying it out of sarcasm but who could have guessed that this freak would really take it into heart?! No, he was not only a freak, but an utter lunatic too! Did he have a death wish or something?!

Apparently, Nian and Sister Hong's thoughts aligned for the very first time tonight. "You crazy weirdo, do you have a death wish or something?!" He seethed in suppressed rage.

Jin Jiuchi merely furrowed his brows in response. "Death wish? Of course not, I still want to live for a long, long time. Moreover, why do you think that going inside means death, Nian'er? What about Brother Zhi, then?"

Everyone was rendered utterly speechless when they heard it. What the hell was up with his question? Just in one glance, anyone with common sense could tell that this room spelled big trouble!

And the fact that Brother Zhi willingly took such a huge risk to explore... everyone suspected that it had something to do with Sister Hong. Otherwise, how was it possible for him to put himself in danger for their sake? He did not look like someone noble enough to do so!

Alas, for fear of Sister Hong's retaliation, they did not dare to say anything. Either way, this ended up working in everyone's favor...

"You..." Again, Nian was so furious that he could only bark out a chilling laugh. But at the end of the day, he had spent more time with Jin Jiuchi compared to anyone else and thus had started to grasp his temperament quite well. "You want to go in? Fine," he sneered. "But can you bear the smell?"

Jin Jiuchi: "..!" T–That's right, the room smelled so horrible that he could die if he had to breathe it in...

Nian continued in a deadpan look, "If the smell ended up sticking to you, then you're not allowed to get on the bed tonight."

Jin Jiuchi: "...!!"

The threat worked wonders on Jin Jiuchi, who had spent a blissful morning waking up to the sight of a sleeping angel. H–How could Nian'er be so cruel to deprive him of such a divine sight?!

"Of course," Nian spread his hands with a fake helpless look. "What right do I have to tell you what to do? Just do whatever you like."

Jin Jiuchi looked at the mysterious room and Nian back and forth, full of dilemma. He was akin to a husky who was asked to choose between going outside to play and a rare opportunity to cuddle with his owner. On one side, he would be able to play and roll around in the snow to his heart's content, but on the other side, his owner would not let him enter the house for the rest of the night...

Full of tears and grievance, Jin Jiuchi could only take a step toward Nian, causing the jade doll to put on a look of satisfaction.

On the side, Sister Hong let out a sneer, "A pair of idiots." She turned to the room and called out, "Brother Zhi, is everything okay?! Did you find something?!" n-/o-/V).e/)l)/b/-1--n

Jin Jiuchi secretly bared his teeth at her just out of spite.

"Wait," the man replied from inside. "It seems like there is something here..."

By now, Surnamed Zhi had already reached the inner part of the room, and if the layout of each room in this apartment was the same, then Jin Jiuchi surmised that he must be somewhere around the bed right now. Other people might not be able to see what was going on inside due to the lack of light – as they could only follow the faint flicker of flame from Zhi's torch – but it was different for Jin Jiuchi. He squinted his eyes and saw that Zhi was bending over the nightstand while rummaging through the drawer as though looking for something.

Just then, a subtle movement from the side caught Jin Jiuchi's attention and when he shifted his gaze there, he felt his entire body freezing in shock.

The strands were moving.

The silk strands were moving on their own aaaah! They were really alive!!

Utterly spellbound, Jin Jiuchi watched with sparkling eyes as the burnt end of the strands slowly mended themselves together again to form a brand new string; thicker, stronger, and they glinted like sharp metal when light was reflected off them.

Most importantly, they were now inching closer to the unsuspecting Zhi.

"Uh-oh..." Jin Jiuchi blurted out.

"What?" Nian turned to him upon hearing that. However, he did not have the chance to voice his question because in the next second, a muffled grunt of pain resounded from inside and the torch died out with a soft hiss.

An abrupt darkness engulfed the entire room. Everyone watched, dumbfounded, as the silk strands moved to fill the space on the door akin to a venus flytrap that finally clamped its mouth shut after devouring the prey.

Everything happened so fast that no one could react. By the time they snapped out of their trance, they could no longer sense Zhi's presence...
