Chapter 67 - The Angel of Rescue

Housekeeper Zhang and the others had been searching around the mansion, but now they were all anxious. South Bridge got off the car, and when Housekeeper Zhang saw it, he immediately rushed over. South Bridge hadn't even opened his mouth when Housekeeper Zhang sobbed: "Young Mistress, I …!"

Nanqiao's eyes were also red. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have left my house on my own accord. I've made you worry."

"I'm the one who said I'm sorry. The person I'm most worried about is Young Master Yu." Housekeeper Zhang choked with sobs.

He lowered his head in front of the South Bridge. Under the light of the street lamps, the South Bridge saw that a few new white hairs had appeared on the head of Housekeeper Zhang.

It was the first time South Bridge had seen Housekeeper Zhang cry. He was already in his forties or fifties, but now he was crying like a child. His face was full of worry about South Bridge running away from home, as well as complaint.

What else could the South Bridge say to be cared for by such a person? It was probably gratitude and guilt.

Yu Cen Ran was smoking on the side. Her long fingers held onto the cigarette and leaned on the car's body. She didn't say anything, but her gaze was focused on the back of the South Bridge through the lights of the smoke.

After a long while, Yu Cen Ran extinguished his cigarette and walked over to the South Bridge. He pressed his rough fingers under the South Bridge's eye socket and lightly wiped away his tears.

Yu Cen Ran held onto South Bridge's hand and said, "Let's go back to the house. Do you all want to stand outside and enjoy the cold west wind?"

"Yes." Housekeeper Zhang turned tears into smiles as he beckoned everyone back to the villa.

When everyone returned to their rooms, the villa was quiet once more.

Nanqiao went to the bathroom and took a bath. When she came out of the shower, there was no trace of Yu Cen Ran. She was wiping her hair with a towel in one hand and pushing open the door with the other.

He walked down to the living room. The TV in the center of the room loved him, and the screen stayed fixed on the evening economic news. South Bridge had never been interested in news like this.

It was strange to see a man in an apron busily working in the kitchen in the dim light of the South Bridge. The familiar muscular figure turned out to be Yu Cen Ran.

"Is it done?" Yu Cen Ran turned her head and raised her handsome eyebrows with a smile in her eyes.

Nanqiao nodded. Yu Cen Ran waved the food in his hand and asked with a loud voice, "Do you want to eat it?"

It was already 3.40 in the morning, but actually, it was very late. Nan Qiao didn't eat anything today, nor did she have any appetite. She didn't say anything, but Yu Cen Ran raised her eyebrows and said softly, "It's sweet, it will make your mood better."

There was no other way. South Bridge could only go to the living room and sit and wait for food.

After a while, Yu Cen Ran came out with a bowl of porridge. The rice porridge had a rich fragrance, probably due to adding red dates to it. It smelled very rich and had a hint of sweetness to it.

Nanqiao picked up a spoon, scooped a large round red date into his mouth and blew on it. Then, he began to eat it slowly. Suddenly, a faint sweet taste began to flow through his mouth.

Nanqiao quietly ate the red dates and millet congee from her bowl. However, Yu Cen Ran didn't say anything as she held her beautiful lower jaw and stared at the white side of Nanqiao's face. Her eyes were pale and her lips curved upwards.

Nanqiao picked up the clean bowl and chopsticks and headed to the kitchen. The sound of flowing water could be heard.

Returning to the living room, South Bridge saw Yu Cen Ran's tall body leaning on the sofa. It was very quiet. The light above her head was shining upon her facial features, making her seem gentle and grave.

Yu Cen Ran remained in a faint trance, but no one knew what he was thinking about. Nanqiao stared blankly at Yu Cen Ran until he came to his senses. He opened his arms and smiled at the bridge.

At that moment, Nanqiao mistook Yu Cen Ran as the angel sent by heaven to save her.

"Sleep, stop thinking about it. You still have me." Yu Cen Ran's big palm gently caressed the back of the South Bridge. His gentle voice sounded from the top of his head. The South Bridge actually felt particularly at ease.

After rubbing Yu Cen Ran's firm chest, the South Bridge managed to squeeze a few more inches into Yu Cen Ran's embrace. With Yu Cen Ran tightly hugging the South Bridge to sleep, they slept extremely peacefully.

The next morning.

Yu Cen Ran was the first one to wake up. She leaned against the headboard and reached out her hand towards the bedside table. Her long, bony fingers opened up a copy of the Economist. After reading it for a while, her eyes wandered to the South Bridge.

Last night, Nanqiao suffered from shock and grief. His eyes still looked red and swollen, and even in his sleep, his eyebrows were still tightly knitted. He didn't know what terrible things had happened in his dream.

After a while, he returned with a glass of water and a packet of pills in his hand. Yu Cen Ran thought to herself that maybe he shouldn't be too entangled with the past anymore, as long as he could stay with her at the South Bridge.

While her mind was wandering, South Bridge had already slowly woken up. Her eyes squinted a little, and South Bridge's face was a little flushed. Yu Cen Ran passed the things in her hands to her.

Nanqiao stared at it. "What is it?"

Yu Cen Ran didn't even raise her eyes as she continued reading. "Cold medicine."

But South Bridge was even more confused. Scratching the back of his head, he said, "But I'm not sick!"

"You ran out so little last night, just in case."

At this point, Yu Cen Ran didn't continue talking. She grabbed the medicine pack and opened it. She placed a few white pills by the South Bridge's mouth and nodded, looking very satisfied as she drank the warm water.

After washing up, Nanqiao followed Yu Cen Ran downstairs. Housekeeper Zhang had already prepared breakfast and was waiting downstairs. When he saw Nanqiao and the others, he respectfully said, "Good morning, Young Mistress!"

"Good morning." The South Bridge was full of smiles.

When they were passing by the living room, Yu Cen Ran picked up the remote control and switched on the TV. Originally, she wasn't very interested in the South Bridge, but news of a dead man accident reached her ears.

When South Bridge looked over, he almost fainted!

The screen stopped on the face of a young woman who was hit by a mosaic. She was found naked and in a horrible state by the sanitation workers in the greenery this morning

Nanqiao shivered all over — that verdant path, she passed it last night! Furthermore, the distance was not far!

Housekeeper Zhang stood aside, patting his chest. "People these days really can do anything. Women must be careful at night!"

Saying this, Housekeeper Zhang suddenly looked at the South Bridge: "Fortunately, our young madam's fate is great, and last night you were also by yourself. Look, you were fine. This person, living is really about luck!"

Yu Cen Ran remained expressionless as she scolded in a low voice. Housekeeper Zhang immediately shut his mouth and stepped aside.

Nanqiao watched the morning news with shock in his heart. He recalled the words that Yu Cen Ran had said to him last night. At that time, he felt that it was too excessive.

During breakfast, Yu Cen Ran asked Housekeeper Zhang to send more bodyguards around the Yu Family villa. At the same time, they also increased the number of patrols around the house. The South Bridge sounded very reliable.

The butler told them to prepare a rich breakfast, but for some reason, the South Bridge somehow missed the taste of the millet congee that Yu Cen Ran cooked. While he was eating, Yu Cen Ran opened her mouth and said, "If you feel bored later, you can play with me. I'll go out and do something."

Nanqiao thought for a moment and knew what Yu Cen Ran was referring to. He shook his head and insisted, "I think it's better for me to go. Mommy's aftermath is better to be the son of a bitch."

Yu Cen Ran cast a sidelong glance and her gaze was not deep nor shallow. Her long fingers held onto a pair of chopsticks as she placed a piece of fried bacon on a plate on the south bridge. "That's fine. I'll have Housekeeper Zhang accompany you."

"Alright."

"Yes, young master."

The black car drove for a long time before finally stopping in front of a funeral home. The funeral home wasn't chosen by Yu Cen Ran but by her mother Zhang Fenglan before she died. She even picked her own grave.

All of this was accomplished without the South Bridge's knowledge. One could imagine how anxious Zhang Fenglan was towards her ever-changing body, but she would never tell the South Bridge that the only thing she left behind was a gentle smile.

Thinking of this, South Bridge's nose once again began to feel sour.

After getting off the car, South Bridge walked in. The funeral home probably greeted Yu Cen Ran, so they didn't need to introduce themselves as they walked over to the place where Zhang Fenglan's corpse was parked.

In a ventilated room, Zhang Fenglan was quietly lying in the coffin in the middle of the room. Around the coffin were many pure white flowers, her mother's favorite white lily.

At last, they stopped in front of the coffin. The Southern Bridge was drooping, and the coroner had already helped his mother take care of her appearance. She wore a faint makeup, and her demeanor was elegant and dignified.

His mother had been suffering from illness, so she had taken chemotherapy every now and then. Her hair had been falling out of her head for years, because it had made it easier for a doctor to see her face.

She hadn't thought that the most beautiful moment would stop at this one. Moreover, it was the eternal freeze. Her beauty was frozen at this moment. For a girl, she really didn't know what to think.

He raised his hand and gently caressed his mother's face, just like how she used to caress him in the old days. Light, gentle, happy days were still fresh in his mind, but now they would part forever.

Tears flowed down his face, and he choked with sobs, "Mom, go well. In your next life, I will still be your daughter. Don't forget me!"

However, a sharp voice came from behind him, "How much longer until the next life? South Bridge, how about you fulfill your duty of being a daughter for the rest of your life?"

Nanqiao's body trembled, and when he turned his head, he saw the South Heaven and Earth that he least wanted to see. He wiped away the tears on his face, and then dispelled his mood. "What are you doing here? You're not welcome here!"
