Chapter 11
Ain: “UOOOOOGHHHHHH!!”
Sia: “UAAAaaaaaaaa!!”
Sia and I ran. We ran as fast as we could towards the tree before us.
That morning, we circled the inner parts of town once, and we confirmed that there were no other residents living here. After that, we made a wide circle outside of the town when we found it.
The short trees were growing sideways, and on its thin branches, there were small green beads growing.
Ain: “GRAAAAAPPPPEEEESSS!!!”
Sia: “UNOUGAAAaaaa”
Ain: “BUT WAIーT! WAIT! I have to assess it first with my [Alchemy BOX].:”
I highly doubt that there are such things as poisonous grapes, but just in case. Not like I ever heard of poisonous grapes though.
I place it into the BOX and close the lid, and I heard, [Shine Masscot. It is sweet and can be consumed with the skin. It is currently ripe and ready for eating.].
Ain: “Okay, we can eatーーHEYYYY, HEY, SIA! I told you to wait till I was done assessing, didn’t I!”
Sia: “GAUUuu. GAAAUUUUuuuuuu”
She’s not listening to me at all. She’s too busy stuffing her face with grapes right now.
Ain: “AAACKK!! I want some too!!”
I take the grapes I just assessed and began stuffing my face with them.
YUMMM!!
Ain: “SO SWEET! IT’S SO GOODー!!”
Sia: “AGU. ANnmu.”
We both lost ourselves in the grapes and ate to our hearts’ content.
I took a large cluster of grapes, and by the time I was done with the 2nd cluster, I was completely full.
Ain: “Ahhhhh…….we finally got to eat something sweet, huhー”
Sia: “Unyuuuuu”
They rested underneath the trees with grapes, and they began to explore the area once more.
Ain: “Looks like this area is an orchard.”
Sia: “UOOooo”
Beyond the grapes, they also found apple and peach trees. They also found oranges and a lemon tree.
I’ll need a basket or box if I want to carry them.
I stuff my BOX with fallen branches and create a box. Inside the box, I throw in apples, peaches, and lemons. We turn around and come back to put in some grapes and then proceed.
Ain: “If there was an orchard…….there should be a farm somewhere too.”
Sia: “GAU. ANMU.”
Sia had an apple in her hand and was busy eating it. She still had room in her stomach to eat?
The orchard was located on the west side of the abandoned town. Beyond that was a mountain, and from around where the orchard began, there were gentle hills strewn about.
If there is farmland, it won’t be on this side. It would be easier to harvest vegetables on flat plains.
So we crossed through the town and headed for the flatter area.
And then we found it!
We found a farmland overrun by weeds and grass.
Ain: “OHHhh, hey, isn’t this leaves from a potato plant?”
Sia: “GYAU?”
Ain: “See, if you tug at this to pull out the roots ー look, see?! It’s a pota ー wait, they’re yams!”
Although they weren’t exactly potatoes, they were close enough to not matter.
And though there are weeds and grass growing everywhere, this entire area used to be farmland.
There were places where yams were planted, and beyond that were pumpkins.
Ain: “Sia, we can’t carry it all so, let’s gather them a little at a time.”
Sia: “GAU”
As we looked at this and that, besides the yam and pumpkin we found at the beginning, we found carrots, potatoes, onions, cabbages, and even corn.
Our food supply variety instantly grew with immense proportions!
Oh yeah, I wonder how the greenhouse orchard is doing now……
The food and ingredients in this world have very similar names and appearances to my previous life. It’s easier to remember these names, but this…
[Cron. You can boil or dry and turn into powder to make Cron Bread.]
Cron…...sounds more ominous than just corn.
We returned to the inn, and we laid out the bounties of our search.
Ain: “We’ll turn the Cron into powder. I’m looking forward to eating bread.”
Sia: “AWAaa, AWAaaaa”
Sia’s mouth is flooding with drool once again.
I wonder how old she is? From her height, I would guess that she’s 12 or 13 but……
I place the yams at the edge of the fireplace to make baked yams.
I cut up the boar meat into thin slices, and I cooked it with the cabbage, carrots, and onions. Out of pure curiosity, I mixed in peaches as well.
I took the Cron and placed it into the [Alchemy BOX] to separate out the kernels from other materials. From there, I turn it into a powdery form, and with water and salt, I began kneading it.
Ain: “Oh no, we only have one frying pan. How should I bake thisー?”
There’s no oven or home bakery appliances hereー
Sia: “Uuu”
Sia suddenly ran outside. She came back almost immediately with another frying pan in her hands.
Ain: “Where did you find that?” Sia: “GRRRrrrrrr”
She growled while pointing at something outside the inn’s windows.
In that area, there were other inn-like buildings, and she’s pointing in that direction. She must have found it in another building.
Ain: “Okay, then let’s take the rust off.”
I took the rust off with the [Alchemy BOX], and with the oil I extracted from the Cron ー I am now attempting to make naan!
I place the kneaded bread flat and across the hot frying pan.
After waiting for a bit……..
Sia: “UNGUUUuuuu”
Ain: “After waiting for a bit!!”
Sia: “GAAAaaaa”
Ain: “I’m not changing my mind even if you get mad. You need to learn to wait.”
Sia: “UAAAAAaaaaaa”
All her wailing is making me feel like I’m committing some sort of child abuse.
But because I made the bread thin, it didn’t take long for the naan to cook.
I took the two pieces I was cooking together, and with the [Alchemy BOX], I made two wooden plates with the wood that was laying about.
I served the stir fry meat and vegetables into a plate, and with the baked yams, we have a ULTRA LUXURIOUS DINNER!
Ain: “Thanー[GAUGAU, UNGU UNGU] k for the mealー”
……..I should probably teach Sia some meal etiquettes…….

CHONKY Notes LiT (Lost in Translation)
Not technically Japanese, but I like Indian food, but I have zero expertise, so here's Google. You can make tortillas out of maize (corn), so I think you can make a corn variation of Naan, but again, not an expert. Burn the author for naan heresy. Not the TL'r.
