Noise kept increasing outside of Evie's tent.
Her tent was the biggest, with the most trivial things in it. From her bed, to wardrobes, drawers or a few cooking stoves.
She was sleeping in; her face hiding under the blanket as she tried ignoring the racket.
Vroto was at the entrance, clearing his voice while knocking on one of the knockers.
"You can't pretend to be asleep the whole time," he said.
He took a few steps in, and sat on a chair.
"I sure can," she replied.
Vroto deeply sighed.
"You'll die alone with no kids if you don't fix your attitude."
"Why do you care about me having kids?"
"It's hard to believe someone raised you and that's how you turned out."
Evie rolled her eyes under the blanket, while turning around under it, her back toward Vroto.
"Can't you tell them to make less noise?" she asked.
"How about you help them fight the cursed sovereign's puppets?"
"Why? We gave them weapons that could deal with those black things. They don't need me."
"What kind of leader sleeps while people fight for them?"
"I am no leader."
"That's clear."
Vroto took a look around the room, it was in a real mess.
"It almost looks like the fighting is happening in here. How can you be this messy?!"
"It doesn't matter, I'll have someone clean it up. Now leave me."
A knight out of breath entered the tent, making Evie groan.
"What is it?" asked Vroto. Discover stories with m,v l'e-novelhall.net
"A giant. We've seen it, it's further east, heading toward a village."
"You have to go," said Vroto.
"They can head there once they're done here."
His spin was wider, and his stance perfect, his kick hitting the ice in a loud cracking noise.
Evie barely had time to react, she was propelled through the tent wall, creating a hole in it.
She rolled on the ground for several seconds, before coming to a stop against a tree.
She stayed on the ground a moment, then painfully got up, looking at the tent from which Vroto was exiting.
All around her, soldiers fought cursed humans. Some of them distracted by the sight of their commander in a nightgown, in the middle of the battlefield.
Vroto walked the distance separating them, the ground slightly cracking at every step.
"What the hell..."
When he was in range, he would kick.
She raised ice pillars between her and his leg.
His kick easily broke the ice, forcing her to keep jump backward.
"Stop this, what the fuck-"
She jumped backward again.
As he was about the kick again, she aimed for his other foot that anchored him to the ground.
The moment ice started forming on his foot, he stepped forward to dodge it, and front-kicked Evie meters backward, between soldiers still fighting.
Most of them, however barely had time to be distracted.
They were in groups, trying to deal with the threat the best way they knew how, while trying to keep the casualties to a minimum.
In each group they would try to separate the cursed humans, and take them down one by one.
She was in front of one of them. She put her knee on the ground, getting herself up while the soldiers blankly stared.
She took her gloves off, and grabbed the cursed human's arm.
Quickly, ice started forming from where she touched it, quickly starting to cover its body.
She wasn't even looking at it, her eyes were set on Vroto.
She carefully put her gloves in her waistband, and took several steps toward him.
"This is what you want? Fine. I'll tell DiveCore how I had to deal with an unexpected traitor."
"You think you can stop me with your cursed hand?"
"He might have cursed it, that day, but believe it or not, it works in my favor."
"Oh, I know. One would think turning anything they touch into ice would be quite a problem. For you, all it was is an excuse to blame for turning soldiers into icicles."
