Infinite Pines was terrified. The possibility of not getting into the guild was something that he could not even afford to think about.
When he entered and saw the crowd of people trying to join the guild, he felt even tenser. With so many people, would he, a blacksmith, be selected? Who would want to hire a blacksmith? Materials were difficult to find and expensive, and the success rates weren't even that great.
He forced himself into the store to try to get a good start.
But when he suddenly was called on to be the first person to start the interview, he was thrown off.
An interview? This was supposed to be a simple entry into a guild that needed numbers right? Why were they interviewing their prospects? Would this mysterious guild master still spend so much money on an auxiliary profession?
After what happened though, after he suddenly got not just a hundred silvers that he was willing to take so desperately, but rather a whole ten times that, he was overjoyed.
The guild master miraculously did not even care about his class, which seemed to be anything but useful to guilds.
And then, he was told to go to the blacksmiths to join them. Although confused, he decided that there was nothing else to do but to follow his guild leader's instructions to the letter.
He descended down to the second floor, and another man passed right by him to go upstairs. Seeing this man's confident face, very much similar to the one that he himself put up when he walked among these players, he felt it ironic.
All the others saw Infinite Pines walk down, and they immediately tried to swarm him.
"What did the guild leader say? Is he taking members in without any trouble?"
"Did you get the money immediately?"
"Is the money there or not?"
People shouted at him from all sides.
Looking at these people asking him so many questions, he did not know where to start. He raised his hands as if clearing his throat.
Immediately, everyone fell silent.
"So this is what power feels like." Infinite Pines thought inside.
And then, he started revealing glimpses of what happened inside.
"If you are a rare class or higher, then I suggest that you enter this guild. The benefits, they look like they are just too good," he said as he started pushing through the crowd to reach the blacksmiths who were on the other edge of the second floor.
Others tried to ask him questions, but he declined them. If he wanted to answer all the questions that they had, then he would be here all day.
He had his instructions to follow, and the ten gold were something that he just could not let go of. He needed them as fast as possible, and according to the contract, they would be given in the middle of every month.
The middle of this month was coming very soon, and the most important thing in Infinite Pines' head was that he needed to impress this guild leader.
He approached one of the blacksmiths and smiled at them. Even though he had no idea why he was talking to this NPC, he just had to trust the system. The NPCs in this game seemed real enough anyways.
"The guild leader told me that I had to join the blacksmith division. He said that you would take me to the outskirts of the city where you are situated and settle me in." Infinite Pines said.
"You are the new blacksmith? Come with me." the NPC said and he turned around to walk into a door that camouflaged into the walls.
Looking around, Infinite Pines realized that he was no longer the center of attraction. The crowd was looking at the person who was coming down the stairs already.
"That fast? Guess he has a better class than I do, for him to be accepted so much faster than I was." Infinite Pines thought to himself as he walked into the door, and closed it behind him.
The door revealed not a room, but a staircase instead. The blacksmith NPC was already walking down. Looking up at Infinite Pines, he waved his hand.
"What are you looking at? Come fast. We do not have time to waste. The sir said that we should not waste today. After all, today is the only time we have to make as many items as possible so that when the store opens again tomorrow, we have a few items for sale." the NPC said.
Infinite Pines snapped out of his daze and ran after the NPC.
The staircase led them to the back of the store, and eventually blended into a nameless street, where there were still hordes of people.
"Come with me." the blacksmith said as he walked through alleys and streets with such speed. This man knew the streets like the back of his hand.
Infinite Pines jogged after him to keep up, and soon, the number of people, as well as the chatter around them, slowly decreased.
There were few who wandered to the outskirts of the city. Who would want to come here, when all the good stuff happened in the center of the city? Keep in mind, many people came to Diffast for one purpose only: To get the Epic Class that seemed to be hidden somewhere.
Of course, they didn't know that this class was already taken.
"We are here." the blacksmith stopped in front of a forge. There were blacksmiths running in and out of the forge, and the smell of fresh iron filled the air.
"You can take a furnace for yourself. We have too many. Business used to be slow until Sir took us in." the blacksmith NPC smiled as he walked inside.
"What do you mean, take a furnace for myself? What do I need to do? The guild leader didn't tell me anything!" Infinite Pines shouted at the leaving NPC.
"Just take the materials from the pool and you should have your own hammer, use that to make as many items as you can. If you want to start making better or more interesting items, then the Sir already purchased a few blueprints from master forgers and blacksmiths among us." the NPC said and he left.
Infinite Pines was here, speechless.
In front of him was a haven alright. Although he knew that being a blacksmith was going to be tough, because he would find it difficult to find work in an online world, he did have talent. That was why he even passed the test to get the rare class, a test that so many failed.
And now, for the first time, he was finally put in his element. With materials that he never had, blueprints that he could never afford, he would finally have a chance to let his blacksmith talent blossom.
Looking up, he smiled.
"Thank you, god! Today must really be my lucky day." Infinite Pines smiled.
"What are you doing? Standing there? Are you new? Grab a hammer and start working. Don't waste the good Sir's grace. We need to deliver as many items as possible." an old but sturdy-looking blacksmith snapped him out of his daze.
