Chapter 176 Labyrinth

Name:World Online Author:
Jake looked to both sides. He was absolutely positive that the direction that he just came from, which as supposed to be straight ahead, was no longer there.

Instead, there was a new path. One that led left of him.

"You have got to be kidding me. I am dealing with a magical labyrinth here? Now, I have no choice of even backing out of this place." Jake muttered.

"Looks like I will have to rely on my trusted friend here." He looked at the silver coin in his hands. He flipped it up in the air once again, and as it flew up, he decided where he would go if it landed on heads.

"Ah! Heads this time!" Jake saw that the coin had landed on the side that pointed right.

He took the turn and walked forward. After a few seconds, he decided to turn around. But in the little time that he had walked forward, he was suddenly faced with a dead end!

And this time, it was so quick! He was so sure that before, it wasn't like this. When he looked back, there was a clear path that led outside.

"There has to be someone controlling the labyrinth. There is no way that this is happening automatically." Jake thought out loud.

He sighed and continued the direction that he was going forward in. At this point, the only way that he could get out of this place was if the labyrinth would allow him.

Just as he was about to walk forward, he heard the first sound behind him. It was the first time that he heard something other than the wind rustling the brown leaves around him.

He turned around, his sword appearing in his hands. Pointing it at the direction of the sound that came from behind him.

As he looked at the sound, he slowly backed until his back touched the dried leaves, crushing them slightly and giving a crisp sound.

He didn't speak, and just waited to see what was it that was about to come toward him.

A second later, he dawned upon the realization that the labyrinth that he was in was a little alive. And this labyrinth was what he was backed up against.

Just thinking about the possibility that the labyrinth would swallow him whole made him shuddered as he stepped forward, no longer touching the leaves.

And in this time, what was making this sound showed itself. It came from the path that Jake took, which didn't seemed closed anymore.

At the least, there was a few meters of walking space, but Jake was sure that no physical thing was supposed to be able to pass through.

Except for whatever this was though. It was an Evil beast, that Jake knew for sure.

And Jake knew that it was nothing like the wolf that he had killed a day ago. This was a creature of much more power.

It was one of the powerful tiered beasts that was suppressed by the power of the god of light. But Jake knew not to underestimate it.

The beast that was in front of Jake was in the form of a gorilla, an unusual monster. But its grey fur, the color of death rather than its usual grey, as well as the red eyes gave the fact that it was an evil beast away.

And the evil energy that it was emanating was also a ringer.

Jake looked up at the health bar. That was what he was worried about. Was the health bar going to change along with the suppression?

"Wow. That is surprisingly manageable." Jake sighed with relief. But he didn't become careless for even a second there. He did not want to lose the fight just because he underestimate his opponent.

Jake didn't make the first move, but neither did the depraved Gorilla. It was staring at Jake, its head titled to the side with eyes of confusion.

It waited, which was a first for Jake. That only meant that the intelligence of the beast was off the roof.

Jake moved slowly, and so did the Gorilla. It moved the opposite direction that Jake did. Once again, Jake backed up to the brown walls.

"Screw this. I can take the Gorilla on." Jake shook his head.

He didn't lunge forward though. That would be stupid. Instead, Jake took one step forward, and when the Gorilla put its gray, monotone hands up to defend for what could come, he moved right.

He darted to the right, and then jumped forward to level up with the Gorilla.

His sword shone as he struck it forward, trying to get to the Gorilla.

And yet, the Gorilla saw him. It saw the sword that was rushing at it's unprotected groin and it moved to the side, dodging the sword as it slowly closed in on it.

"Damn it. This beast is pretty intelligent. It is intelligent enough to start evading attacks." Jake cursed.

The moment his sword was a little too overstretched, the gorilla jumped, landing straight on the sword.

So before Jake could even pull his sword back, the sword fell off his hand.

Jake's eyes widened as he looked at what happened with surprise. He didn't expect this big brain move from the evil beast.

The sword was on the ground, beneath the beast's feet.

Jake looked back, and he could see that there was a dead end just waiting for him. The labyrinth knew that he would try to run at this moment.

Jake took a few steps back, and the Gorilla seemed to understand the situation that Jake was in. No sword in hand, defenseless, Jake was screwed.

So it smiled, its black and brown teeth, as rotten as they could be, all visible. It took one step forward for every step that Jake took.

"You stupid beast." Jake muttered underneath this breath as he backed up against the leaves.

In the corner of his eye, Jake was looking at where the gorilla was standing a few moments past.

Where the sword he lost was supposed to be.

Only, it wasn't.
