Leaving the path was easy. Everyone could run out with ease, including the priest who had to stay back till the end.
Without a single trap activating, so far, everything and gone by without a hitch, and no more casualties.
Everyone started walking down the same path that they had entered through. To their sides, they could see the rotten trees, the fallen leaves, apple cores that were half consumed.
Everything that they saw on their first trip down this lane, they saw once more.
And soon enough, they could see it. The entrance, or rather, the exit to the holy grounds. A circular portal that was exactly similar to the one that they passed through.
No one said anything. They knew what they had to do.
Everyone took out their weapons, and continued walking forward.
Eventually, it was Jake's turn to pass through the portal. He gulped as he gripped his sword tight. There was no saying if there were enemies outside, but seeing that the others who went in earlier didn't have any problem, or didn't come back to warn them, Jake liked his chances.
He passed through the portal, feeling the change in temperatures.
The moment he passed through the portal, he felt like the temperature had gone down a few degrees. The light that he saw was dimmer, and wherever he looked, there was a blue and gray tint that gave a gloomy look.
But he could see the church, with windows of bright light that showed that there was still a god within, an ally that they could trust.
"We do not stop. The God of Light will understand us not wanting to pay our respects immediately. We shall move directly to safe territory before we do anything else." Ganshin shouted.
As he said this, he looked to the side.
From where they were, everyone could see the distance, where the main city was. Just like they could see the church from when they were near the clock tower, they could see the clock tower from the church.
That was probably where they needed to go, the closest path that they could take, one that was reliable and had worked before.
Ganshin led the way, going around the church and looking at the church's doors one last time.
There were horses and carriages drawn to the church's doors.
With a single swipe of his hand, the ropes that tied the horses suddenly came lose.
The horses neighed as they looked at the person that just gave them freedom.
"Go. It is best if you leave now. We will be the targets anyway, so you will not die. I do not want to see innocent creatures lose their lives because of the foolishness of men." Ganshin muttered.
The horses seemed to understand what was being said. After they heard Ganshin's words, they jumped with their hind legs, and were out in the wind.
After that, the next moves were predictable.
They started leaving through the main gates of the church, and were back on the roads that would eventually lead them to the center of the city that they were in before.
"We might face monsters on any step of the way. We will have to be ready for them." Ganshin warned as he kept walking.
Jake could hear whispers. Whispers of some sort just rushing by his ears. But all of those words were unintelligible, and he just ignored them.
Sometimes, not everything would make sense. Sometimes, these just existed to stop the party. Maybe the evil god wanted him to say something. Maybe the evil god wanted him to stop the caravan and force them to waste time?
Jake looked up to see the clock tower that was slowly getting larger and larger. They were getting closer to the exit of the city, and it was somehow weighing heavily on Jake.
He felt like something was about to take place. Something that could alter the course that they were about to take.
"Your intuitions might not always be right, Jake. Calm down and just do what you are told. We are almost done with the goddamn quest." Jake told himself.
And as if on cue, he heard a deafening voice coming from a distance.
Roar!
The roar of this beast came from the east, which was deeper into the evil lands. It was obvious that this was a beast that did not want to let this small party here leave the evil lands.
And the deafening noise that it emanated only meant that it was a large beast with considerable power.
"Thank god it didn't freeze my blood or anything like that. If it did, then it would definitely be a tier six or seven beast." Jake noted.
A beast at such a distance roaring wasn't supposed to give out any debuffs. But the truly terrifying beasts were the ones that could temporarily freeze players for a few seconds.
Everyone glanced at the direction the roar came from.
Jake glanced at the faces of his own party members though, and he could see a few faces of terror among them.
They recognized the sound that just shook the world. They knew the beast that was responsible for this roar.
"They unleashed that beast? They really treasure this rock that we have here. Even if it is already spent and purified." One of the sword masters said.
"You do not seem to understand the gravity of the situation here, Harold." Ganshin stopped walking and turned around to look at everyone.
"This rock that I have in my hands is no ordinary rock." He said with a low tone.
"This is something that even empires would fight over. All for the favor of the god that they would offer this to. This is an offering. One that could turn into an empire changing treasure."
