Chapter 7.1 - Run Together
Su Yan was scared and embarrassed at the same time when she saw the face of the man.
The appearance of Bai Xingfan was unexpected, and Su Yan had never thought that she would meet him in this kind of miserable situation. It was as if the last fig leaf had been stripped off without warning; her downfall, frustration, and unbearable news were all exposed in front of him in an instant.
Su Yan had already expected that he would question her about why she was there except in the wedding hall and give her a sympathetic yet critical glance, just like the other visitors in the banquet hall. She didn't need his concern or his sympathy.
"Why, don't you have to ask anything?" Su Yan's voice was trembling, and there was helplessness and unconcealable pleading in her tone.
Bai Xingfan frowned slightly, and asked softly, "What are you asking?"
Su Yan was stunned because she had never thought that Bai Xingfan would talk in such a gentle tone. She stared blankly at Bai Xingfan, both grateful and guilty.
It was also at this time that she realized that Bai Xingfan was different from those guests, he would not push her into a corner with a pitiful look, let alone ask some embarrassing questions for her.
He was simply caring about her.
"Thank you." She thanked him sincerely.
Bai Xingfan was noncommittal and reminded her in a gentle voice: "It's raining heavily here."
He tilted the umbrella in his hand towards her, and the torrential rain no longer hit her but drenched him.
Su Yan felt a little apologetic in her heart after seeing that.
In just two or three minutes, his black, thick, and short hair was already drenched; his hair was sticking to his white forehead in strands. The raindrops flowed down his temples and slid along his clear jawline to his chin.
The black suit he was wearing was completely wet, especially on the shoulders and back. The cold raindrops were still dripping down his knuckles and wrists into the shirt cuffs. But actually, this man didn't look like a wet crow after being drenched in such heavy rain.
He looked as handsome and elegant as before, despite the fact that he had been drenched.
"Please go away," Su Yan understood Bai Xingfan's kindness, but couldn't accept it. After all, the two of them didn't know each other very well, "I'm fine, I… I'll be home in a while."
But she knew clearly that it was impossible to go home by herself, and she dared not go home.
Although she was the victim, she was the most ashamed one in this situation, and not only her but also the entire Su family. Hence, she couldn't face her parents, especially her grandmother, who was always odd with her family.
Although Su Yan grew up with her grandmother, who was her father’s mother, their relationship was not good because her grandmother was patriarchal, only loved Su Yan’s younger brother, and always tried to find faults in Su Yan. So when she returned home in such a situation, she would definitely be criticized by her grandmother, and she would be blamed for what happened today. Because of that, Su Yan really didn’t want to go home. If there was a box, she would even want to seal herself in an airtight box, hiding from the sun, avoiding the sympathetic eyes of those people, avoiding relatives and friends, and avoiding the fact of being abandoned until everyone forgets about it. But to her surprise, Bai Xingfan didn't leave, didn't say much, and quietly helped shelter her from the rain.
When Su Yan tried to persuade him to leave, suddenly she heard her brother, Su Zhan’s panicked voice from not far away: "Sister! Sister…Where are you…"
Yao Anan's voice came after that: "Yanyan! Where are you, Yanyan? Don't take it too seriously! "Xie Yu, that jerk who got a thousand knives isn't worth it!"
It was her younger brother and best friend looking for her. She understood that they cared about her sincerely, but she didn't want to see them at all. Therefore, she would rather leave with a stranger than face an acquaintance.
She knew in her heart that once the two of them discovered her, she would instantly transform into a resentful woman, cry and tell them her grievances, and no longer muster up the courage to take a step forward.
She wanted to step forward with dignity.
But where could she hide now?
All of a sudden, she stood up and began to look left and right to find a new hiding place, panicking to the extreme.
Just when she was at a loss, Bai Xingfan stretched out a hand in front of her with a gentle but firm voice: "Don't be afraid; there is me."
Su Yan was stunned, looking at him with teary eyes.
