In the basement, after experiencing endless pain as well as sinister physical and psychological torment, Luo Bailing knew there was an eighty to ninety percent chance that she would die, so she straightforwardly broke the jar, and made herself fall down over and over again, after throwing herself down to the point of badly beating up her face, she finally succeeded in getting the ball gag to fall out of her mouth, regardless of how much her throat started to throb in pain as soon as she spoke, Luo Bailing loudly cried for help:
“HELP!! SAVE ME!! I’m in the basement…..keke…..”
“Ran…..RAN MUXUN!! Save me……”
Luo Bailing realised that at this point in time, the only one she was able to beg for help from, was just Ran Muxun, because Ran Muxun was the person nearest to where she was……
Upstairs.
The faint sound of a woman’s cry for help, made Ran Muxun fall absolutely silent.
Because she sensed Si Jinze entering her room……
Was he worried that she heard Luo Bailing’s voice, and as a result would think up a way to rescue her?
Ran Muxun stiffened up for a moment, then quickly returned to normal, pretending to continue sleeping1, as if there was absolutely nothing out of the ordinary just now.
That voice was actually very quiet, with the distance of almost two floors and a staircase, and Luo Bailing’s voice originally being hoarse as well, if she hadn’t long already known about the thing with the basement and Luo Bailing, most people would certainly not take it seriously, only thinking that they heard it wrong, or it was a noise from outside.
She will not rescue Luo Bailing.
If she was the original kind-hearted female protagonist, she would probably grope around in the dark to find the secret passage, arrive in the basement to see the imprisoned Luo Bailing, however once she attempts to rescue Luo Bailing, she would discover how her every action and every move were all under Si Jinze’s grasp, and Si Jinze will even, because she actually tried to save the person he imprisoned, feel that she betrayed him!
Or, thinking she finally discovered his true face, straightforwardly imprison her as well, then carry out his original plan……
From solely imagining it, Ran Muxun got goosebumps all over her body.
Anyway, the chances of her being able to rescue Luo Bailing are slim, moreover……
In the original plot, Luo Bailing could be said to be the strongest catalyst for causing the female protagonist’s death, dealing with only one Si Jinze was already enough to make her head hurt, she doesn’t want to let out another uncertain factor to torment herself!
Ran Muxun closed her eyes, and made every effort to force herself to fall asleep.

This idea, as a matter of fact, had really flashed through Si Jinze’s mind, he narrowed his eyes, looking at the girl lying on the bird, seemingly confirming whether or not she was actually sleeping……
Ran Muxun rigidly lay there, not daring to make a single movement.
Si Jinze moved his line of sight away.
If she attempted to find the source of that voice just then, or even tried to rescue Luo Bailing…….
He truly thought about it, whether or not he needed to break the jar……fortunately, she hadn’t noticed that something wasn’t right.
Si Jinze looked at her soft and graceful face, and sighed quietly……
He didn’t even know whether he was rejoicing or regretful…..
However……
Si Jinze glanced in the direction of the mirror……
Luo Bailing ah……
Leaving her here will only invite a disaster!
Si Jinze left.
On the bed, Ran Muxun’s forehead and back had long already been soaked in cold sweat.
Torrential rain lashed down in the middle of the night.
Any sound coming from the basement was even harder to hear.
The wind blowing in from the window knocked everything on the bedside table over.
There seemed to be a power outage.
Ran Muxun stood up…….
Although there were no lights, and if there was a power outage, the monitoring was most likely inoperative, but to be on the safer side, she still cautiously nudged towards the window, and was just about to close it, when she suddenly heard the sound of a car engine starting……
The car’s window wipers were unceasingly scraping over the dashboard, the boot of the car opened, without wearing a raincoat, a man clothed entirely in black hurled a bag of something into the car boot, from the size of it, it seemed like it was……
Just big enough to fit a person!
1. For both revised and original the line went like this: “Ran Muxun stiffened up for a moment, then quickly returned to normal, groping around to climb onto the bed then falling asleep, as if there was absolutely nothing out of the ordinary just now.”
When the author made changes I’m not sure how thoroughly she checked for how it would flow with the rest of the story, I checked and double checked, and she really does get into bed in both versions, which makes sense for the original but not the revised and in the current context. So I changed it to “pretending to continue sleeping“
Hopefully it’s an alright change to make.
隐隐约约传来的女人的呼救声让室内原本旖旎的气氛都被打破了,冉慕寻发现,旁边的司靳泽眼神瞬间变得冰冷起来,带着怀疑与审视的眼神盯着她的脸看……
“The faint sound of a woman’s cry for help broke the originally enchanting atmosphere of the room, Ran Muxun realised that Si Jinze’s eyes instantly turned ice-cold, they stared at her face with suspicion and scrutiny……”
I really like this line, so I’m just translating it for fun. It really captures the essence of this arc lmao. Ran Muxun is changing into her pyjamas, trying to pretend that Si Jinze was not literally in the room perving at her, he’s super horny, and then BAM, the mood changes.
