1556 I Want To Date You Again
After a while, the door of the office opened, and Jiang Yang entered, engaged in conversation with two assistants. "...get another test done and show me the result. We will decide on it once we get the result."
"Understood, Dr. Jiang," the female doctor replied, following Jiang Yang inside with a file in her hand.
Spotting the guests, he smiled. "Mrs. Xi, just give me a moment."
"Please, continue your work," she replied.
Jiang Yang settled into his chair, facing his computer screen, while his assistant spoke. "This is the report you asked for this morning," placing the file on the table.
Jiang Yang accepted the file and began reviewing it. He turned to the screen of his computer, explaining things to the assistant.
Throughout, Nicky's eyes continued to observe him. He looked as handsome as before in his white doctor's coat, entirely focused on his work. What added to his handsomeness was the round gold-rimmed spectacle he now wore, and she found herself unable to divert her gaze from him.
"That assistant doctor is beautiful, isn't she?" Song Meilin asked her daughter in a low voice. "She's skilled as well and trained under Dr. Yang."
Nicky frowned at her mother's attempt to make her jealous but then glanced at the doctor standing closer to Jiang Yang's chair, leaning in to look at the screen. This proximity made Nicky feel a bit uneasy, and her mother's provocation seemed to be working.
"Alright, we can proceed with the surgery," Jiang Yang almost finished his talk with the assistant.
"I'll schedule the date as per your availability," the assistant replied and turned to Song Meilin. "Mrs. Xi, how are you?"
Song Meilin smiled at the young doctor. "I'm doing great."
Nicky observed the assistant doctor closely and she was indeed very beautiful and elegant.
Jiang Yang stood up, removed his glasses, and came to sit on the couch, facing mother and daughter.
Song Meilin's assistant handed over the report to Jiang Yang. "These are the results of the latest test we performed."
Jiang Yang went through it and, after a while, said to Song Meilin, "Everything seems fine. Good to see Mrs. Xi is not ignoring her health now."
"My daughter is back; how can I be reckless and trouble her to take care of me when it's her time to get married and have her own family?" Song Meilin remarked.
Nicky almost held back her urge to scold her mother. 'Since when has my mother become like this?'
Jiang Yang smiled lightly and nodded. "That's good motivation if you are paying attention to your health."
"But only if the person in front of me agrees to it," Jiang Yang commented.
Nicky looked at him, not knowing what to say.
Jiang Yang sat straight from his lazy sitting position. "I want to date you again, Nicky."
Her heart almost skipped a beat as she realized it was beating faster. Shocked, she could look at him. Jiang Yang stood up, picked up the water bottle, and sat next to her, offering her water.
With her lightly trembling hands, she accepted the bottle and heard him say, "I know what happened in the past is still holding you back, but everyone has gotten over it, and we two should do the same. We have wasted enough time already, but not anymore."
She quietly drank water, and Jiang Yang took the bottle back to put it on the table.
Instead of answering him, she asked, "How is Yuyan doing? I didn't dare talk to her much during the wedding."
"She is doing great and is happy with Lu Lijun now," Jiang Yang answered. "But you should meet her personally."
"I plan to."
Jiang Yang looked at her. "Then give her a call. Her number is still the same."
"I will."
"After that, I will expect to get an answer," Jiang Yang said.
"I will think about it."
Jiang Yang turned his face to look at her. "You can take your time answering me, but only saying 'Yes' is accepted. I am not fond of 'No'."
Nicky could see he was still like before, so straightforward and persistent.
"After you meet Yuyan, we will go on our first date," he declared.
She offered him a puzzled look. "I am yet to meet her. I... I need time..."
"I know what will happen once you meet her. So let's not waste our time, okay?"
She sighed and understood there was no going back. Her mother had left her in a trap intentionally.
