Chapter 1054: I’ll Not Remember You in My Next Lifetime
Tang Mo’er’s eyes reddened, everyone knew the truth. Even Chenyi, who was busy with the rivalry in Country A, had rushed back to accompany their mother in the last 48 hours of her life.
But Lu Jinwen was the only one kept in the dark.
He didn’t know anything at all.
He said that it was just a minor surgery.
He said that everything was going to be fine.
This man who was set to have such a smooth sailing life, setting up his first business empire at the 16 years old, reaching the pinnacle at such a young age, wielding so much power for decades settled down over the years. Now, he didn’t even know the love of his life was in the last moments of her life.
Everyone had decided to support Lin Xuanji’s final decision. Many people didn’t come, including Old Master Lu, Old Madam Lu, the entire Lu family, Lu Yan and An’an, Fu Qinglun, even Lin Shiyu hadn’t come.
Lin Xuanji just wanted to leave this world peacefully.
Tang Mo’er turned her head away with reddened eyes, not wanting to see that gentle look on her father’s face.
His gentleness was just like a blunt knife, slowly making its way through one’s heart, causing such unbearable pain.
It was excruciating.
...
One hour later.
The doors opened and the doctor took off his mask, looking at Lu Jinwen as he said, “Congratulations, Mr Lu. The heart transplant surgery was a success.”
It was all scripted.
The nurse pushed Lin Xuanji out of the operating theater. Lu Jinwen lowered his eyes to look at Lin Xuanji, who was on the hospital bed. One, two, three... he finally smiled.
Letting go of his tightly clenched fists, his palms were all sweaty. He was merely comforting Mo’er and Chenyi when he said those words just now. But in actual fact, he was even more worried than anyone else.
He could never be able to accept a bad outcome.
But thankfully, everything had turned out fine.
...
In the hospital ward.
After the anesthesia wore off, Lin Xuanji opened her eyes. Someone was holding onto both her hands tightly.
Standing beside her in the silent hospital ward, Lu Jinwen crouched down beside her bed. “You’re awake?”
His voice was inexplicably gentle.
Lin Xuanji nodded her head. “Mm.”
“I’ll go see what he needs. Don’t go away,” Lu Jinwen instructed her as he entered the house with Butler Ye.
Seeing Lu Jinwen disappear before her eyes, Lin Xuanji felt something dripping down. It was blood coming out of her nose.
“Mom!” Tang Mo’er ran over, hugging Lin Xuanji as she buried her face in mom’s warm embrace. After holding her emotions down all this time, she burst into tears.
...
In the study room.
Butler Ye handed over a file containing some documents inside. “Sir, we’ve found Monk Xuanyi.”
Lu Jinwen furrowed his brows. “Where is he?”
“Country Z.”
“Prepare the private jet now, I’ll set off immediately.”
He was going to catch this Monk Xuanyi alive.
Butler Ye was stunned. “Sir, are you going to set off immediately? Why don’t you wait till Madam feels better?”
“I’m setting off right away, go and prepare now.”
“Yes, Sir.”
Seeing that the man was determined to leave, Butler Ye could only obey his orders.
Lu Jinwen lowered his eyes to look through the documents and his brows drew together as he did. He wasn’t convinced at all, there wasn’t going to be a next lifetime, at least not for him.
He had never been convinced by such unfounded things. He naturally didn’t believe in whatever promise between Xuanji and Jun Mosheng about them meeting in their next lifetimes.
He was going to catch this Monk Xuanyi and bring him back!
...
Butler Ye arranged for the private jet and Lu Jinwen wore a black suit underneath his black overcoat, exuding a dignified aura. He went back outside to the lawn, wanting to inform Lin Xuanji about his plans.
But there wasn’t anyone on the lawn.
The sun had set and the skies were dark, cold wind blowing around. It was abnormally chilly. It seemed like it was going to rain soon.
Where did she go?
“Did anyone see Madam?” Lu Jinwen asked the maids.
“Sir, none of us has seen Madam.”
Where did she go?
Lu Jinwen scanned around the place with sharp eyes, but he still couldn’t find her. He didn’t know why, but he panicked for no reason at all. He had this ominous feeling in his heart, almost consuming him slowly.
It felt as though something important in his life was slowly slipping away.
