Xu Youning froze at the gate, his back feeling cold.
The stress when Mu Sijue was on her, his evil eyes and wicked voice… came to her mind time and again.
“What’s with this feeling when he bumped his lips against mine?”
Xu Youning realized what she was thinking about, and wanted to strangle herself all of a sudden—”You shouldn’t wonder that way!”
“What you should do is only to deal with Mu Sijue as he has done to you!”
Aunt Zhou smelled a rat, so she picked up a recycle bag and said, “I’m going to the market, take care of yourselves.” She pushed Xu Youning into the house while walking out.
Xu Youning then walked into the living room, sat down, reluctantly glanced at Mu Sijue standing on the stairs, and asked, “What did you call me here for?”
“For something, of course.” Mu Sijue sat on the couch across from Xu Youning, laid his long legs on the side table, stared at Xu Youning with his evil eyes, and asked, “Where are you going?”
“To Mike’s place to have my revenge!” Xu Youning said with anger, “I was trapped by an outsider in our territory. They nearly drowned me in the lake. Don’t you think it’s a disgrace?”
“I’ll deal with it; you shouldn’t act on your own.” Mu Sijue said, which sounded more like a warning.
Xu Youning subconsciously thought that Mu Sijue asked her not to offend Mike’s men.
Exactly, it was she who had stirred up disputes the previous evening. Therefore, Mike punished her the next day to show their stance. Meanwhile, they informed Mu Sijue about it and did not drown her to death.
That way, what happened the previous day could likely be forgotten by both. What’s more, if Xu Youning would let go of all that, Mu Sijue could still cooperate with Mike.
However, it made no difference, even if she could not bear all of that. Mu Sijue would not offend Mike openly, just for her.
With that in mind, Xu Youning looked down and replied, “Got it. What else?”
Mu Sijue double-clicked a photo in the gallery of a tablet PC, and asked, “Do you know him?”
The man in the photo was Kang Ruicheng.
Xu Youning was shocked, and then quickly deliberated in her mind.
One of the ideas she came up with was that Mu Sijue found out who she was, which would bring about the worst case scenario.
However, it seemed improbable. If Mu Sijue did find out who she was, he would kill her without hesitation as he usually did.
Besides, he wouldn’t have called her to the Old House, let alone go to rescue her when knowing that she was nearly drowned.
Xu Youning behaved as if nothing happened, looked right into Mu Sijue’s eyes and shook her head. “No. Who’s he?”
“I told you that someone in City A had attempted to disturb my businesses, and it’s him—Kang Ruicheng.” Mu Sijue had his eye on Xu Youning calmly, trying to catch all her minute expressions.
However, he did not find anything anomalous from Xu Youning’s manners.
He would never suspect her, yet he would perceive there was something about her true identity.
“Is it him who wants to take businesses from us?” Xu Youning stared at the photo for a while, and asked, “What would you do?”
“He assigned someone here to work undercover. Killing the undercover person, not dealing with him is the number one issue at present.” Mu Sijue said calmly with a fearsome voice. “I want you to unearth the undercover person.”
Xu Youning blanked for half a second. “When did you notice that?”
“Not long before.” After a while, Mu Sijue added, “Only you and me know it for now.”
“I know nothing about anti-undercover work.” Xu Youning shook her head and said, “I’m afraid I’m not fit for it.”
She was Kang Ruicheng’s undercover person. How could she find herself out?
“I’ll be worried if I asked others to do it.” Mu Sijue said, “I’ll assist you.”
“Do you… know the suspicious guy?”
Xu Youning stared at Mu Sijue, who slowly uttered two words, “Ah Guang.”
Xu Youning was astounded to hear that, and asked, “Why?”
“I investigated but found nobody to be suspected.” Mu Sijue’s words sounded dangerous and deadly. “In that case, the one who seems most innocent is usually the most suspicious.”
Xu Youning shook her head. “Your idea is baseless.”
Mu Sijue did not explain further, but asked, “Is that so? Or you don’t think Ah Guang is the undercover man at all?”
“I…” Xu Youning got bewildered for a while, and then she said, “I often work with Ah Guang. He works with all his heart and tries his best. He always says he admires you the most, and he considers you all the time… It can’t be him.”
“The intention of an undercover person is nothing but gaining the trust of his target. Maybe Ah Guang shows his loyalty and conscientiousness just to gain my trust.” Mu Sijue smiled as if he did not care. “At least, he gains your trust.”
Ah Guang used to follow Mu Sijue through life and death, which made Xu Youning think that Ah Guang was special to Mu Sijue.
At that moment, however, he just sat there, calmly analyzing if Ah Guang was a mole, and he seemed not to be affected by it at all.
Could she say that he was cold-blooded or unfeeling?
“If I found out that Ah Guang is acting undercover, what… will you do?” A kind of indescribable uneasiness emerged within Xu Youning’s heart.
“I’ll tell the others that he died in an accident during a deal.” Mu Sijue said with nonchalance, “Since he works undercover for Kang Ruicheng and approached me, he should’ve gotten ready to die.”
“Got it, I’ll find out.” Xu Youning stood up, with her heart falling. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be off.”
She suddenly stopped at the gate.
She looked back and asked, “Mu Sijue, why don’t you suspect me?”
Mu Sijue looked at her coldly. “How do you know that?”
“Did you investigate me?”
“Is that necessary? Jianan recommended you to me, and Boyan repeatedly asked me to take care of you.” Mu Sijue smiled with disdain, “Let alone that you’re not able to do undercover work.”
Xu Youning smiled stiffly, slammed the door angrily and left.
Should she rejoice at Mu Sijue’s disdain, or should she be happy about it?
As for Ah Guang, who would either live or die because of her words. Should he be condemned to death?
If she told Mu Sijue that Ah Guang was working undercover, she would be safe forever. Unless she revealed herself, she would never be suspected by Mu Sijue.
Nonetheless, Ah Guang was indeed innocent, and he had never betrayed Mu Sijue.
Should an innocent person die instead of her?
Sitting in the living room of the Old House, Mu Sijue finished his tea. Mu Xiaowu suddenly ran to Mu Sijue’s feet and crouched on the ground, rubbing its head against his leg.
He stroked its head and said, “This is the last time I’m giving her a chance.”
If Xu Youning was not blind enough to sacrifice herself for Kang Ruicheng, maybe he… would let her go in the end.
However, if she would do anything for Kang Ruicheng, even make others her scapegoat, he would never let her return alive to Kang Ruicheng.
Mu Xiaowu looked at Mu Sijue with its innocent and pure eyes, and barked twice.
…
Xu Youning returned home and changed her clothes. She ran into Ah Guang when she was in a hurry to reach the Number One Clubhouse.
Ah Guang had just finished his work. He saw her, smiled and waved his hands. “There was some trouble in the bar on Jingyang Road. I waited for you till 9 o’clock, but you didn’t come, so I went to deal with it.”
“Is everything done?” Xu Youning asked.
“Yes.” After a while, Ah Guang asked with hesitation, “Did you have a good rest last night?”
Xu Youning smiled, “I lost sleep, kind of.”
Ah Guang clapped his hands and said, “Luckily I didn’t call to bother you! By the way… What happened last night when you and the boss were in the private room? He didn’t look well when he came out.”
“Because of some incidents, we didn’t make a deal with Mike, and we fought with them in the end…”
“What incidents?” Ah Guang smiled like a gossipy man. “Will you tell me the whole truth?”
“Why not!?” Xu Youning raised her chin and said, “Those bastards couldn’t keep their hands off me, so I beat them up!”
“Did the boss help you?”
“How could I beat four strong guys if he didn’t? …But, was he in a bad mood when he got out?”
“Yes!” Ah Guang nodded repeatedly. “Don’t worry. He seemed to be angry with himself. It had nothing to do with you.”
“Was he crazy?”
Ah Guang smiled as if he was telling a mystery. “It… You’ll know it later. By the way, City G is our territory, we’re angry that you were offended. My buddies and I will go find Mike and teach them a lesson.”
“Never do that.” Xu Youning thought of Mu Sijue’s calm face in the morning. “Maybe the boss will continue the cooperation with Mike; we shouldn’t act on our own.”
“Sister Youning,” Ah Guang said meaningfully, “Aren’t you worried about the boss all the time?”
Xu Youning was shocked.
If it weren’t for Ah Guang’s words, she would have nearly forgotten her next mission. Kang Ruicheng asked her to ruin the cooperation between Mu Sijue and Mike.
What was she doing then? To her surprise, she was trying to facilitate cooperation.
Did she forget her identity and intention?
Ah Guang had his eye on Xu Youning, and snapped his fingers. “I guessed it!”
He left happily.
Thinking of the bet, he knew he would win. He was sure that Mu Sijue liked Xu Youning!
Or, they were more likely to love each other!
Xu Youning looked at Ah Guang’s back, figuring out what to tell Mu Sijue and made up her mind.
Of course, she would pretend to investigate for some time before telling Mu Sijue.
Otherwise, the one who died “by accident” during a deal would be her.
