Lu Boyan and Su Jian’an did not spend the first spring festival together after they got married because not long before that festival, Kang Ruicheng showed Su Jian’an a document and used it as a form of blackmail to force her to divorce Lu Boyan.
For the sake of Lu Boyan, Su Jian’an had to agree to Kang Ruicheng’s conditions.
At that time, the relationship between Lu Boyan and Su Jian’an had just improved. Of course, Lu Boyan would not agree to the divorce.
Coincidentally, Su Jian’an found out that she was pregnant, which made it even more impossible for Lu Boyan to sign the divorce agreement.
However, the document that Kang Ruicheng possessed showed that the operations of Lu Enterprises had not been totally carried not in an honorable manner. Lu Boyan had apparently taken advantage of the loopholes of the policies on numerous occasions.
If Lu Boyan refused to get divorced, Kang Ruicheng would hand the document to the police, which would be a catastrophe for both Lu Boyan and the Lu Enterprises.
Su Jian’an knew better than anyone how much effort Lu Boyan had put into the company.
She could not bear to watch the tragedy happen.
She made a plan: she would admit that she didn’t love Lu Boyan and asked Xiao Yunyun to issue a fake abortion agreement to mislead Lu Boyan into believing that she had given up their child.
When he personally saw her coming out of the operating room, Lu Boyan finally accepted the fact and signed the divorce agreement.
After “getting divorced”, Su Jian’an moved into Su Yicheng’s apartment and it happened to be the Spring Festival.
At that festival, Su Jian’an suffered her pregnancy symptoms alone, and Lu Boyan also numbed himself with work.
Both of them were unhappy.
However, if Lu Boyan had trusted Su Jian’an enough, he would not have easily believed that Su Jian’an had really given up their child and Su Jian’an did not have to go through all the pain and worry about the future.
That was why Lu Boyan apologized to Su Jian’an.
However, it didn’t matter to Su Jian’an whether he apologized or not.
Su Jian’an pursed her lips and smiled, “It’s all in the past.”
Lu Boyan kissed Su Jian’an’s forehead. Suddenly, like magic, he picked up a bag from somewhere and handed it to Su Jian’an.
The logo on the bag told Su Jian’an it was a piece of jewelry inside. She looked at Lu Boyan in puzzlement—
“Why would he give her a gift?”
Lu Boyan said earnestly, “For the New Year.”
Su Jian’an took it and shook the bag, asking, “Can I open it?”
“Of course,” Lu Boyan said without hesitation.
Su Jian’an thought for a moment and deliberately tried to be difficult. “What if I don’t like this gift?” she asked.
Lu Boyan narrowed his eyes and said in a highly charged tone of voice, “Will you?”
“Of course.” Su Jian’an tapped Lu Boyan’s forehead with her slender index finger. “Mr. Lu, you can’t be so overbearing!”
Lu Boyan pondered for a moment and pretended to compromise. He whispered in Su Jian’an’s ear, “Mrs. Lu, if you are not satisfied with the gift, Mr. Lu can make it up to you in other ways.”
Seemingly, there was nothing special in Lu Boyan’s words.
But Su Jian’an knew Lu Boyan so well that she got the implication immediately. Her cheeks flushed red. She glared at Lu Boyan, but her eyes did not show any anger.
Lu Boyan smiled at Su Jian’an and held her in his arms.
Su Jian’an was unhappy. She pushed Lu Boyan and asked, “Have you prepared gifts for mom?”
She hoped Lu Boyan had prepared one for the old lady.
Lu Boyan looked at Su Jian’an without speaking.
Su Jian’an suddenly had a bad feeling. She looked at Lu Boyan incredulously and asked, “You asked your secretary to buy gifts again?”
“How did you know that?” Lu Boyan was as surprised as Su Jian’an.
“Hum—” Su Jian’an smiled lightly and complained, “Before we got married, I would chat with mom sometimes. She always complained that every gift she received was prepared by the secretary, not you. She didn’t feel your sincerity at all!”
Lu Boyan raised his eyebrows and showed Su Jian’an another bag.
Su Jian’an took it and found a silk scarf and a set of skincare products inside.
The scarf suited Tang Yulan well and the skincare products were suitable for the elderly.
Obviously, these were the New Year gifts that Lu Boyan prepared for Tang Yulan.
Of course, Lu Boyan had not chosen these gifts by himself.
It was likely that the secretary listed the options and Lu Boyan picked some from them and gave them to Tang Yulan in person.
This was a huge improvement for Lu Boyan.
This was another surprise for Su Jian’an. She looked at Lu Boyan with a smile and teased, “Mr. Lu, you’ve grown up.”
Lu Boyan responded cooperatively, “Mrs. Lu should take all the credit.”
“What does it have to do with me?” Su Jian’an was confused now.
“You don’t remember?” Lu Boyan raised his eyebrows and looked at Su Jian’an. Seeing her blank face, he continued helplessly, “A few days ago, you told me that presents should be chosen and given by the giver himself. Only in this way would the receiver feel your sincerity.”
Su Jian’an thought for a while but couldn’t remember anything. She shook her head and looked at Lu Boyan blankly.
Lu Boyan sighed and said, “Forget it. Get out of the car. We’re home.”
Only then did Su Jian’an notice that they were already at Dingya Villas.
The property management of the villa was excellent. They would decorate the place for every festival. Now, red lanterns and “spring” characters could be seen everywhere in the public area of the villa, which created a festive atmosphere for the forthcoming New Year.
Su Jian’an couldn’t help smiling. “Amazing!” she commended.
Lu Boyan turned to glance at Su Jian’an, saying, “Are you praising me?”
“No!” Su Jian’an denied firmly. “Mr. Lu, please ignore what I just said!”
“Ignore the word ‘no’?” Lu Boyan smiled. “Mrs. Lu, you mean you were praising me?”
Su Jian’an lost interest in opening the gifts. She decisively got out of the car and walked into the house.
For the past week, Su Jian’an had been busy preparing for Shen Yuechuan and Xiao Yunyun’s wedding. Working without a break, she did not have time to prepare for the upcoming festival.
Fortunately, she had Tang Yulan.
Tang Yulan had completely recovered from her injuries. The old lady was very positive. She wasn’t affected by the kidnapping incident at all and would go shop happily and like a young girl, come back with lots of bags in her hands.
Most importantly, Tang Yulan had good taste. In just half a day, she bought enough decorations which suited the style of the house. Soon, the house was filled with a festive atmosphere.
When Su Jian’an entered, Tang Yulan was holding Xiyu and playing with him.
Su Jian’an changed her shoes and went straight to the living room. “Mom,” she called.
“Hey,” Tang Yulan responded while coaxing Xiyu. “Everything for Yuechuan and Yunyun’s wedding is ready?”
“Everything is ready. Just waiting for tomorrow,” Su Jian’an said, reaching out her hand. “Mom, give Xiyu to me. You can have a rest.”
“Okay.”
Tang Yulan knew Su Jian’an missed the little fellow. She handed Xiyu to her, straightened her clothes and stood up.
At this time, Lu Boyan came over with a bag and handed it to Tang Yulan. “Mom, Happy New Year.”
Tang Yulan looked at Lu Boyan first and then at the bag. She was too surprised and couldn’t help saying, “Oh, you didn’t ask the secretary to pick gifts for me this year?”
Su Jian’an was amused by Tang Yulan’s remark and couldn’t help laughing.
Lu Boyan couldn’t smile at all. He stared daggers at Su Jian’an to warn her to stop.
Seeing this, Tang Yulan followed Lu Boyan’s line of sight and looked at Su Jian’an. “All the credit goes to Jian’an,” she said and gave an understanding smile.
Su Jian’an nodded and pointed at Lu Boyan, saying, “He said the same thing.”
Lu Boyan’s face darkened even more.
Su Jian’an did not care about Lu Boyan’s reaction. She walked over to hold Tang Yulan’s hand, saying, “Mom, open the gifts. See if you like them.”
“I don’t need to see it. I’m very happy now.” A relieved smile appeared on Tang Yulan’s aged face. “Jian’an, let’s prepare dinner together.”
“Sure!” Su Jian’an handed Xiyu to Lu Boyan and said, “Take care of Xiyu. I’m going to prepare dinner with mom.”
As soon as Lu Boyan took the little guy, Su Jian’an turned and ran to the kitchen.
Xiyu looked at Lu Boyan and suddenly frowned. He snorted as if he was about to protest.
Lu Boyan looked down at the little guy in his arms and smiled. “You want mommy? But you should follow me now.”
Xiyu seemed to be scared by his father and was about to cry.
“Shh—” Lu Boyan motioned for the little guy to quieten down and explained, “Be quiet. Mommy is busy.”
“Mm…”
Xiyu looked at Lu Boyan with a wronged expression. He struggled for a while and when his mother did not come over, had to give up. He tilted his head and buried his head in Lu Boyan’s arms to sleep.
Watching the little guy gradually falling asleep, Lu Boyan could not stop smiling.
Since his father passed away, he had moved to country A with Tang Yulan. There was no Spring Festival atmosphere there, so they had no mood to celebrate this holiday and just went through the motions.
Now things were different.
He had established his own family and had children. He could spend the Spring Festival like how he did when he was a child.
The only difference was that he was no longer a child. Instead, he had become the father of two children.
He was happy to accept such a change.
If possible, he would like to spend each Spring Festival holiday like this in the future.
