Chapter 11.1 Business is not righteous! ! !

Just when Ji Lin excused himself from the case, Bai Duanduan was left in a difficult position.

The labour dispute case has come to such a stage where there was no point in going back to court again. Bai Duanduan understands that once the company is unwilling to forgive people, then what Ji Lin has suggested was the only way out.

Although she felt sympathetic towards Xu Zhixin and understood his plight, he had indeed done wrong.

Under extreme despair, Xu Zhixin was treating Bai Duanduan as the only drifting wood. He moved on his knees towards Bai Duanduan and immediately kowtowed to her, “Lawyer Bai, please, please save me.” The tall man cried like a child, “I was deluded, I lied to the company, I lied to you. I know there’s no point in apologising and saying anything else now, but lawyer Bai, please help!”

Bai Duanduan could not help, “You just heard what the other side’s lawyer said. Jin Guang Electronics’ attitude is very firm, trying to persuade them not to send you a dismissal letter, I’m afraid ….”

“No, it’s not that. I understand that I no longer have the luxury to ask the company to forgive me. I just want you to help me beg lawyer Ji to not report Dr. Chen Jia Nan.” Xu Zhixin’s face was full of pain and unease, “She was distressed for me, she couldn’t see that I was in such a difficult situation, so she did this fraud for me ……”

Bai Duanduan froze, ” Are you and Dr. Chen Jia Nan ?”

“She doesn’t want to publicize your relationship?” Bai Duanduan was a little surprised, “But she is willing to take such a big career risk for you to create fake sick leave but do not want to disclose her relationship?”

“No, she…… she and I were in the same university. We started to see each other in our sophomore year. My family was too poor and I didn’t have a decent job back then. Later when we fell in love we decided to see her parents. When we met her parents for the first time, we were afraid that her parents wouldn’t accept me, so we lied about my situation. Sure enough, at the beginning, her parents were very kind to me, treating me like their own son. But one day they accidentally learned about the real situation of my family and their attitude towards me changed. They forced their daughter to break up with me, even threatening her to the point of death. She had no way but to break up with me on the surface, but she never gave up on me in her heart.”

Xu Zhixin choked up and said, “I have nothing, I can’t give her anything, but she is dead set committed to me. She kept persuading me and now the two of us are in a secret relationship and no one knows about our relationship. Even when she issued me those fake sick notes, no one can actually find out that we have any connection. She is not a bit hesitant to do this for me, she really is an exceptionally kind girl. I can not cause her to lose her job or be punished again because of me. Lawyer Bai, please, help her, do not let her be hurt ……”

“If I’m right, you asked your cousin to see a doctor and then take an X-ray with your medical insurance card. In addition to you two looking alike enough to muddle through, Chen Jia Nan also helped in it, right?”

Faced with Bai Duanduan’s question, Xu Zhixin didn’t say anything, but his gesture acquiesced to everything.

It’s fine as long as you don’t know the evidence is fake. If you know it is fake and still use this evidence, it will hinder the administration of justice. Once implicated, won’t your license be revoked? The subject matter of my case is so small, how can a lawyer take such a big professional risk to help me present fake evidence together? If I had told you, and after knowing that my evidence of my tibia fracture is fake, would you have still represented me?”

“Yes, I would have still helped you represent your case.” Bai Duanduan didn’t hesitate at all, “But there is absolutely no need to use the fake evidence.”

“But without the fake evidence, how can I win?” Xu Zhixin smiled bitterly with red eyes, “I took a leave of absence from the company for a broken bone, but I don’t have a real and legitimate injury to support my fake leave note and diagnostic certificate.  Isn’t it still lying about my sick leave and ending up in the same situation as now? That is to say, I think it is the worst outcome and just like this, everything will be exposed. It is better to have the courage to try your luck  ……”

Bai Duanduan, however, interrupted him, “Without the use of falsified evidence, it is true that you can only lose, but it will definitely not yield the worst outcome as it is now.”

“Labor dispute cases are mainly resolved through negotiations and settlements. In fact, most companies don’t want to do away with people when they fire them. Because first, you used to be their employee. You have mastered their business operations and even some trade secrets. At least you are familiar with the personnel structure, workshop products and production line. If you want revenge, either you can surrender their flaws to their competitors, or sneak into the office area directly relying on your familiarity with the company, to inflict violent attacks on the senior management. For them, it is always a potential risk, so while forcing you into a desperate situation, they will also have the above concerns in the back of their mind. Second, you have some former colleagues at Jin Guang Electronics, who used to have a good relationship with you. The company used such a shameful way to fire you. Even if you are wrong, some of your former colleagues may think that the company’s decision is too harsh, which will make these employees centrifugal towards the company which is not good for the management of the company.”

Bai Duanduan calmly looked at Xu Zhixin, “So if you had confessed everything to me a long time ago, we didn’t have to use the fake evidence. Jin Guang Electronics knew that you had cheated on your sick leave, but we could have used this tactic plus some other litigation tactics to negotiate and have a sincere and honest chat. We could simply have settled before the labour arbitration, and it wouldn’t have been so bad at all to make Jin Guang Electronics angry enough to the point that they have to hire Ji Lin.”

“But …… but once the company knows that I am indeed cheating on my sick leave, it is simply impossible for them to reconcile with me!” Xu Zhixin insisted, “In the end, isn’t this still the result?”

Bai Duanduan looked at Xu Zhixin, “When you first tried to take a leave of absence, you only said that your father didn’t have much time and didn’t say why you refused to hire a caregiver and decided to do it yourself instead, right?”

Xu Zhixin was a bit surprised. He did not know how Bai Duanduan learned about it, but he just nodded honestly and agreed with her.

Bai Duanduan sighed, “Why didn’t you say the true reason then? It’s possible that you could have just been able to follow the proper process to get a leave of absence by telling all of this from the beginning.”

“Impossible!” Xu Zhixin retorted without even thinking, however, he had some awkward embarrassment on his face, “When I intermittently took those real sick leave before, the HR department treated me badly and mocked me. Next when I needed a personal leave and as soon as I opened my mouth and said that my father had pancreatic cancer, a person there laughed and said directly to me, ‘In order to take a leave, even my own father was arranged to be given death!’…..” Xu Zhixin lowered his head, “I will always remember the disdain and contempt on that person’s face. I do not want to suffer this kind of insult. Instead of explaining bitterly, it is better to take a shortcut……”

From the beginning of the first meeting with Xu Zhixin, Bai Duanduan actually vaguely perceived that he had an excessive self-esteem for himself. He did not want to share his difficulties of working in the workshop with his own father, nor did he want to tell Bai Duanduan about his hardships. He lived with great restraint and also paid great attention to others’ thoughts. He also tried his best to not let his girlfriend’s parents see the poverty of his family.

Only, being too rigid was too easy to break, and his excessive self-esteem left him no way to confess his weakness and incompetence, so in the end he had no option but to carry the excessive pressure on himself alone.
