CH.411 More Card Summoners and Duel Disks

When I showed Alice and Lua my new race, I had some alright reactions.

Alice thinked I looked cute with cat ears, so I think that is a plus, but Lua just pointed out that they’d be weak points. Which is in a way true, and my cat extremities are in the way until I get more used to them.

Lua also got a bit ... peeved that I turned into a beast-folk before she could turn me into a dhampir. She even promised that as soon as she could do it safely, she’d turn me into a dhampir.

... which honestly sounded almost like a threat, but I know she means well.

“We are back and I have good news.” Einar came to my office after he, Eline, Unika and Paulina returned from their trip to TinaWood.

Yes, they are still visiting TinaWood about 3 days a week, grinding points and taking on the challenge rooms.

“Alright. Go ahead and give the report.” I said, as I looked up from my work.

“We were able to collect 1880 dungeon points today and with them, I took on the floor 5 challenge room twice, Unika challenge floor 6 once and Paulina challenged floor 7 twice.” Einar said. “And both Unika and I obtained Card Summoner!” He added.

“... Nice.” I said, as a smile formed on my face. That group has really been working hard to get their Card Summoner skill, so I’m proud of them. And now I can reward them with some cards.

... And I get to work on their duel disks, which is going to be cool. I haven’t designed any since Alice, Lua and Ria got theirs. Wilma said she was going to design hers on her own, using the blueprints I have.

“Are the others still freshening up?” I asked Einar.

“I believe so, yes.” He confirmed.

“Can you bring them here when they are done? I’ll give you all some cards.”

“... including Miss Paulina?” Einar asked.

“Yeah. It is about time she accepts a skill orb.”

“I shall bring them over.” Einar said, before leaving the room.

“Alright. First, congratulations Einar and Unika. You both worked hard for your skill.” I started. “Second, Paulina, step forward.”

“... what is this about? I didn’t get the skill?”

“Exactly. So take the orb already. I already get complaints that I let you hunt too much in TinaWood. I know it is my dungeon, but unlike HomeBase, it isn’t my personal playground. Other adventurers go there as well. I can’t have you hunt there any longer.” I told her, as I brought a skill orb out of Storage.

“... are you sure? I’m not sure if this feels earned?” Paulina questioned.Diiscover new stories at novelhall.com

“Earned? How many times have you taken on one of the challenge rooms?”

“... like ... 25 or something?”

“Try 43 times.” I corrected. “43 times. And you haven’t gotten it. So do you really think it is unearned?”

“Well there have to be others that have ...”

“No one else has even done 20.” I told her. “So just take the orb and get the skill. If you don’t deserve it, then no one does.”

She naturally also got their familiars. Petit Dragon, Fox Fire, Gigobyte and Archfiend Marmot of Nefariousness.

Next were the Cataclysmic Charmer, Storming Wynn, Blazing Hiita, Raging Eria and Avalanching Aussa.

Of course there are also the Familiar-Possessed versions of them. Familiar-Possessed - Wynn, Familiar-Possessed - Hiita, Familiar-Possessed - Eria and Familiar-Possessed - Aussa.

And last, the Spiritual Arts. Spiritual Wind Art - Miyabi, Spiritual Fire Art - Kurenai, Spiritual Water Art - Aoi and Spiritual Earth Art - Kurogane.

“Good luck on getting used to all of them.” I wished, as I saw Unika off.

20 cards is a lot, I know. But I trust that Unika can learn how to use them.

Because I was in the mood for it, I decided to start working on the duel disks for the new Card Summoners.

First was Paulina as she was the easiest. I just went with a standard GX era Duel Academy duel disk. I then added a nice blue and brown color scheme to it, to fit Paulina’s Earth and Water attributes and called it a day.

With Einar and Eline, I got a bit more original.

For Eline, I made a duel disk that kind of looks like a tiger’s paw print, with each of the paw pads being a monster card zone. The big pad held the fifth monster card zone, five spell/trap card zones, as well as the field spell zone. Of course the color of the disk was a nice matt black so that it wouldn’t show much when Eline is hiding in the shadows.

Best of all, you can use the duel disk as a shield. Sure Eline doesn’t have the Shield Technique skill, but she can learn. And having it as an option is just good.

... and maybe I just want to see a cat-girl with a paw print shield.

For Einar, I almost went with the same design as I did for Eline, but I decided to do something else instead. Einar has been practicing wielding dual swords for a bit, and he does seem to like that style, so I don’t want to bother him with a useless shield.

Instead, I decided to make his duel disk into a sword.

The final design looks quite a bit like the Chaos Duel Disk like what the Orichalcos people in the anime used.

It can be used as a blade when it is on his wrist, but you can also detach the blade from the wrist part and use it as a sort of single edged curved blade. I just need to have Wilma make Einar another one that is just the same as the duel disk, so he will have two matching swords.

Well, one will be a duel disk.

Lastly for Unika. Her duel disk is of circular design, with five ‘fox tails’ pointing out of the center. Each obviously held one monster zone and one spell/trap zone, while the center part held her field spell zone.

The duel disk also came with an interesting feature, where each of the tails could be loaded with a bolt and those five bolts could then be fired out. So it was kind of a wrist crossbow at the same time as it was a duel disk.

Each of the tails also had a sharp edge, that combined with the fact that the duel disk can spin allowed for it to be used as a sort of saw in close range combat. Not sure if Unika will ever use that feature, but it is there.

Did I pack too many features into it? Maybe. But they fit and don’t bother the function of the duel disk, so why not?

I didn’t produce the designs just yet though, as I wanted both Laura and Wilma to check them over for improvements first. But if both of them approve, I’ll make them in a day or two and then hand them out.
