CH.415 Anti-monster unit vs. Lich
Okay. Before the next fissure, let’s quickly go over the good stuff we got from this one.
I did already say it, but I did indeed get the new set Tactical Evolution unlocked.
Wilma got herself Language Comprehension (humanoid), which feels like a throwaway reward, but it might come in handy.
Lua got a book on Holy Magic, which again feels like the System is just trying to assist her in her endeavors of learning Holy Magic.
And Ria didn’t get any System rewards, but she did get her Limit Break. And since she did, I’ll show you her status.

The one other thing really worth a note here is that Ria got her Card Summoner to LV.3, which means she just unlocked the deck box, so she can now store her cards in there.
We of course also got the materials from the worldweb spider, which includes the silk. And oh boy is Wilma excited about that part.
She has already designed a bow for Unika using it, she actually did it before we even ever encountered the giant spider, but now we can actually manufacture it without using HomeBase.
So in the coming days, I’ll take Unika to the Factory, using Factory VR, so she can feel the bow and give her opinions on it. If she likes it, Wilma and Karl can make it for her.
But that will have to wait a day or two, because we still have another fissure to deal with. So we hopped into B.E.S. Big Core MK-2 and headed where Alice was waiting for us.
“They did agree to section off the area from most people, but only if they can have their anti-monster unit there. I did agree to it, because I felt like I had no choice.” Alice told us as we were talking about what will happen tomorrow.
“That’s fine, I think. Unlike both the Alewatch and Oroco fissures, the Empire hasn’t had one inside their borders that they could have recorded, so it is no wonder they don’t believe us, even with the letter. Did you have to show your status?”
“No. I think had I pushed for the knights to not be involved I would have, but I didn’t, so...”
“Alright. So we just have to plan around the fact that we will have randoms running around. We just have to make sure they don’t attack Exodia and we should be fine.”
“We could just block them out with a barrier.” Lua pointed out.
“Let’s not try to start a war. Alice agreed that they can be there, so they can be there.” I stated.
I mean, having more people there isn’t really a problem. The biggest problem is that some of them might die, but that won’t be on me, so ... I’ll only care a bit.
Actually, if they die, that might work well for me. Maybe I can offer some resurrection services in return for being able to keep all or most of the materials from the monster or monsters that appear.
... what do you mean profiting from death is cruel? It is just business. Just ask any weapons manufacturer during wartime.
On the morning of the fissure, the city was quite busy. Yes, we did stay in the city. Yes, they do accept the Heroic currency, but there is an exchange rate between it and the Empire’s Crystal currency. Alice traded about 200 gold coins for the local currency yesterday, so we didn’t have any money problems.
But back to why the city was busy. Well the reason for it was simple. The pre-sign of the fissure had appeared, taking on the appearance of a purple lightning bolt just stuck in the air. And anyone with actual magic skills could tell that it was bad because of the miasma leaking out.
After a nice and hardy breakfast, my group headed out towards the pre-sign. I had the same people as yesterday, plus Alice.
Once we were near the fissure, we noticed the unit of knights. I had Alice go first to make contact, as she had already spoken with them yesterday, before I also went in for a talk.
The knight leader was an interesting man. He was a draconic lizard-kin, an evolved lizard-kin that can only come from a line that has a dragon ancestor.

My part in this operation was simple, just stay out of the way and if the lich overlord decided to attack Exodia, interrupt the attack with a card, while the knights, backed up by my girls, would deal with the lich.
Sadly it wasn’t as simple as something like the worldweb spider. Because of the nature of the opponent being an undead, it has lower max HP than most SS-ranks, so our Life Equalizer strategy doesn’t work.

And because it is mainly a magic based monster, it loves spamming powerful spells and it can do it with super short chants or even without chants. And since I don’t really understand monster, I can’t even tell what spells the lich is about to use.
Luckily it does seem like one or maybe multiple of the knights do have Language Comprehension (monster), as they are calling out incoming attacks.
And that was how most of the fight went. The lich attacks, the knights protect themselves with barrier spells and shields, then they counter-attack with spells of their own.
A few times they tried to approach the lich to get into close combat, only for the lich to try and fly away. Every time I ended up interrupting its flight spell with De-Spell, but that just led to the lich using shockwave type spells to push the knights back instead.

The fight with the lich raged on for long enough to where Exodia had closed the fissure before it finished, so I decided to give the knights a hand. They might think I’m greedy for this, but whatever. Let’s get this over with.
“Non-Spellcasting Area.” I started by activating a Continuous Spell that would prevent the lich from using magic.

I then flew over the commander with Glad and called out to him, telling him that I sealed all magic around the lich for a bit of time.
With that, the commander ordered a full attack, and after they hit the lich that wasn’t really good at close combat for some time, the overload went down.
Assessing the damage after the fight took a bit of time, but the good news was that no one died, so I don’t have to resurrect anyone. Though I think that is largely because of Alice using Mirror Forces against the most powerful magic attacks.
There were some serious injuries, but no lost limbs nor anything else the knights couldn’t recover from, so I’d call it a success.
Lua was offering her healing services and I also ended up summoning both Guardian Angel Joan and Shinato, King of a Higher Plane to heal people.

The knights didn’t really even react to the two Fairies, maybe because they were numbed by Exodia, or maybe they just don’t have the energy to reach any more.
I had some talks with the captain, mainly him asking what in the frick the fissure was. Which I answered with the same lie about ‘an ancient curse left by the demon lord’.
He also asked what I wanted as a reward for not only warning them, but also dealing with the curse and helping with the fight, to which I let Wilma take over and request a few materials from the lich.
Sadly we couldn’t get the core, so all we really got was the robe. It is high quality magical fabric which we can use way better than the magic infused bones or the lich’s staff, so it isn’t the worst thing we could have gotten.
Sure the bones can be crushed to make high quality fertilizer which is basically required to grow certain medicinal herbs that you can’t get from anywhere but dungeons and the staff is a good magic staff, but they aren’t really anything we need.
HomeBase’s excessive mana combined with Nature attributed magic stones have nearly the same effect as the lich bone fertilizer, and world treant wood staves are better after you put in the time to build them up.
I was also asked about a way to contact me, as there was a high likelihood of some of the researchers in the Empire wanting to contact me, to which I handed the captain a letter exchange box.
We were also invited to a victory dinner, but because I’d rather eat at HomeBase, I decided we wouldn’t take part this time, and we soon headed back home.
... And I guess I should mention that this second fissure did get me another set opened. I now have access to . So since I now have two new sets unlocked, expect a pack opening.
