CH.472 Closer to Soul Magic

To start this day off, I’ll be summoning the new Synchroes I got over the last few days. I have three I haven’t summoned yet, which will get me to my next reward with the Synchro challenge.

Cosmic Fortress Gol'gar was an interesting summon, because he is kind of large. One of the largest monsters I’ve ever summoned, in fact. He easily exceeds the size of my B.E.S. ships, and even makes Orca Mega-Fortress look small.

Spoiler[collapse]

... but despite the size, Gol'gar isn’t as strong as you’d assume, so he is just a massive target for attacks.

Thankfully Light End Dragon and Power Tool Dragon are more reasonable sizes.

Spoiler[collapse]

Oh, also. Power Tool Dragon’s effect is kind of interesting. Not in what it does, but how it works. See, what I was expecting was a standard search effect where I pick three Equip Spells that I have access to from any of my sets, and then I randomly add one of them to my hand. Which I can then place back into the Collection.

But that isn’t how the effect worked. Instead, Power Tool Dragon somehow picked three Equip Spells, with no input from me, and I then picked one of them to add to my Collection.

Sadly on my first roll I didn’t get any Equip Spells I didn’t already have, so I just picked an extra copy of Rainbow Veil, because it is a great card.

But back to the Synchro challenge. I got to fifteen monsters, so I’ll claim my reward.

I then summoned the reward Synchro and checked what was next.

A Lightsworn Synchro? That’s nice. ... but wasn’t Minerva an XYZ monster. I don’t remember her having a Synchro variant. Well, whatever. I’ll get it when I can.

With the Synchro challenge as far as I can take it for now, I went to help Alice and Nevelle with their Soul Magic practice. Yes, I practice it as well, but the two of them have a big advantage when it comes to that type of magic.

Alice has two souls while Nevelle can split her soul. And since both of them have learned how to do so internally, we wanted to check if they can send one of those souls, or soul parts, outside of their body.

And we just so happen to have a perfect device for that. The Factory VR. Because in theory, we can connect someone to the Factory VR, have them separate the souls, and then just take one, or half, of the souls to the Factory, while the other stays in the body.

So I sat down in the admin seat, while Alice and Nevelle both took one of the other seats. Yes, Alice technically doesn’t have to, because of System Support and all of that, but for now, it is better to do it this way.

I then jumped to the Factory to wait for the two.

The goal we had with this exercise was simple. We wanted the girls to basically live with just half their total souls in their bodies. For Nevelle, or I guess Vele in this case, as Nel will be coming to the Factory, it should be nothing that special. Except for the fact that she will have all of Nevelle’s stats and skills, where usually she only has some of them because of the way their splitting skill works.

For Alice, it is leaving her body in the management of Mana and seeing if it will cause any problems.

Because I was ‘stuck’ in the Factory, I had Wilma watching over the two. Sure I had access to all HomeBase cameras from the Factory, so it wasn’t really a problem, but having someone there did give me some peace of mind.

I’ve already lost one soul using the Factory VR. I don’t feel like losing another one.

... also, because I feel like someone might ask. Why haven’t I developed a portable video camera yet if I have security cameras all across HomeBase? Well, because I don’t actually have a good way to both store and display the recorded data. I can do one of those, but not both at the same time.

All HomeBase cameras record into Tahlia, aka. Storage, so it isn’t really a problem, but a portable video camera that works for anyone won’t be able to use my skill.

Anyway, side tangent aside, back to the experiment. Alice arrived in the Factory first, quickly followed by Nel. I informed Wilma as much, and she told the other half of the girls that.

I then opened up a screen from which we, Alice, Nel and I, could watch as the two girls in the real world detached themselves from the Factory VR device and began to move around.

It was a bit strange, because of the entire time dilation between the real world and the Factory. Everything in the real world does run in basically slow motion.

But still, despite the separation of the souls, or splitting in Nel’s case, the real world versions of them were moving around just fine.

“Alright. Both of you test your skills. Just see if you can use them all.” I told the Factory girls, while their real world halves also began to do the same.

This was mostly to test Nel, as again, she can’t normally use all of her skill after a split. Then again, this isn’t exactly a foolproof test, because Factory bullshit is a thing.

Alice ran through her list of skills and she could use them all decently fine, but she did lack just a bit of the finesse she has when she is complete. She was also a bit slower when it came to Instant Casting spells, and her spells were a bit less controlled than normally. Still within accepted parameters I’d say, but there was about a 7% drop in control. No or just minor difference in power.

For Nel, she quite masterfully controlled the skills she usually has after she splits with Vele, but she had some difficulties with the skills that are left with Vele.

I found it a bit strange, as the two’s memories should sync up whenever they join back together, and since we are in the Factory, it should have nothing to do with muscle memory or anything like that.

But as Vele ran her skill tests in the real world, the results were the same. While she clearly had the skills Nel mainly uses, she seemed to have much less experience with them than Nel, even though Vele’s status showed her skills being at the level they are at when she is complete.

I don’t really know what to make of this, but I think maybe Nevelle has some sort of multi-personality disorder caused by her unique skill, where she instinctively changes control between her two personalities depending on the situation, even when they are together.

Not that I can really prove it, but it would make sense.

Compare that to Alice and Mana, where both can use all the skills very well, but not just quite as well as they can together. There is no ‘one is better at some skills than the other’ problem, just the ‘two minds are better than one’ solution. And it wasn't like the individual lacked in power, it was more in control. When the two of them are together, their spells are just more elegant and controlled, while individually they are just as powerful, but more destructive to everything around them.

So yeah. This test did give out some interesting results. Next I’ll make both girls their own dragon avatar, though I think I’ll call their soul avatars or something to differentiate the two.

Other than that test, I only really had one more thing to do today. Fully completing .

Because of my 100 pack ... anger strike, I have quite a lot of cards from that set, but I am still missing some. And I think it is time I get them.

So I’ll do 200 packs at the same time, see what I get, and then either do another 200 packs, or just set up some Different Dimension Capsules to get the last few cards. Assuming that it will only be a few cards that I’m missing.

But yeah. 200 Duelist Genesis packs, speedrun style, GO!

Splendid Venus is pretty nice. Really good stats, and a decent effect to boot.

Hand of the Six Samurai isn’t that amazing, but she, I think it is a she, isn’t bad either. Just alright.

Charge of the Light Brigade is a Lightsworn search card, but I think I have basically all of them already, so ... I guess maybe it will come in handy.

Goyo Guardian and Stardust Dragon are new as ultimate rares. Both are great Synchroes, so having them in every rarity ever is cool.

And Dark Hunter is fine. I can quite freely manipulate my GY, so I can probably get any of the effects on it I want.

Spoiler[collapse]

Now to set up some Capsules for the cards I didn’t get.

And after checking, I was only missing three cards. Interestingly, all super rares. I somehow got every secret rare already.

Eradicator Epidemic Virus is a card I already had from a different set, as it was in Force of the Breaker, but it was reprinted in this set.

Broken Blocker is a situational trap, but it isn’t bad.

And Gladiator Beast Heraklinos is also something I already had, as it was in Gladiator's Assault.

Spoiler[collapse]

So yeah. In truth, I was only missing one card from this set, with the two others being random reprints. The reprints are even some special limited cards, so ... I guess when you open 500+ packs from a single set you tend to get basically everything from it.
