Chapter 10:Lies (2)

One of the policemen pushed "Philip" into the police car and they were off, back to the police station. Renae stared at "Philip" a lot. She found him very suspicious... Not in the sense that he was doing something he wasn't supposed to, but instead that he... didn't give a vibe that she thought a robber would give. "Hey erm... can we do a hand print check later? I... don't quite trust him. He honestly could be a fake that was paid to do this." Renae said, a look of mistrust on her face. Without looking her way, Kaiden nodded his head in agreement.

How distant Kaiden was towards Renae even though they've spent such a long time on this investigation kinda made her upset. Fortunately, lady luck was on her side that day. As the car made a sharp turn, Renae lost his grip on the handle and fell towards Kaiden. "Sorry..." Renae mumbled shyly. "It's fine. Are you alright?" Kaiden asked, his hand on her slender arms. From the amount of warmth Renae got from his hands, she could tell they were pretty big. She nodded in reply.

The moment they reach the police station, they brought "Philip" to get his finger print checked. Meanwhile, Kaiden and Renae and the other policemen from their investigation group decided to chill in the conference room for a break.

Soon after, a policeman entered the conference room. His face was pretty unenthusiastic so they assumed straight away it wasn't the real Philip. "The results are out. He's not the real guy... our search continues." he said, his eyes dull.

Renae and Kaiden went back into the enclosed room in which Larry was still at. "Ok. So Larry, where exactly is Phillip? And I mean the real authentic Phillip and not a fake again." Renae asked him, trying to calm down. "All I know is that he told me his location is Becking Motel. Whatever I knew, I've told you," Larry responded. "Please cooperate with us. If you are not guilty of lying then you have nothing to hide, and you are definitely hiding something." Kaiden told Larry.

Since Larry refused to tell them anything, Kaiden decided to take Larry's phone and ask Phillip himself. As Phillip would think that the person messaging him is Larry, he would not suspect a thing. Renae started off with a text saying, 'They returned me my phone again. They are on to something. You need to change locations'. Phillip replied saying that he would then head back home. As Renae and Kaiden does not know where Phillip lives and cannot ask him, they made excuses to prevent him from going back home.

In the end, Phillip decided that he'd stay at Mandarin Hotel for awhile. They finally got the real location of Phillip! They hoped Phillip did not suspect anything and followed everything "Larry" messaged him.

They then discussed if they should head there now when one of the policemen decided to ask Phillip for more details. Policeman 1 typed in, asking, "How long will you be staying there? The police may discover your location soon. And where will you then stay at?" "I'll be staying for 1 night and rent a house near Fullerton Hotel so the police may think I'm at the hotel when I'm not." Phillip responded.

"Should we head there now?" Policeman 4 asked the rest. "Ok...so you, Kaiden and Renae will find Phillip and bring him back here... hopefully. The rest of us will stay here." Policeman 2 said. "Roger that," they replied back.

Having arrived at Mandarin Hotel, they scanned the lobby, looking for any sign of Phillip. Kaiden spotted a guy standing at the counter, most likely checking in. He looks like Phillip from the back, so Kaiden went up and tapped his back. The guy immediately turned around, looking at Kaiden confused as to why he tapped him on this back.

As the guy turned around, Kaiden looked at his face. His face was identical to "Phillip's" but they weren't taking anymore chances. So Kaiden asked him, "Is your name Phillip? A guy named Larry was looking for you and we are Larry's friends." "Oh yes I'm Phillip." He responded calmly. Phillip really didn't suspect anything. Even if he did, he obviously didn't show it on his face.

Before Phillip could say anything more, Kaiden swiftly pushed his hands to his back and cuffed him up. "You are under arrest for robbing a bank. Tell me where your IC is (Identification Card) so I can take a look to prove you really are Phillip." Kaiden saw his IC and it was really him. They caught him this time! They brought him back to the police station soon after keeping his IC in a duffel bag.

On the way back, policeman 3 got a phone call. "Hello? What?! ...Alright. We'll come back as soon as possible. No worries, Phillip can't hear us... I know, we can't tell him. Otherwise, he'll be happy." He said. He hung up the phone.

"So, Larry escaped together with the Phillip imposter. Don't tell Phillip, let's pretend we got the both of them and we completed the investigation." Policeman 3 explained. "And we can't use the phone to trick him either. Tsk... Larry doesn't have his phone with him... wait, did you guys take "Phillip's" phone?" Renae asked, a glimpse of hope in her eyes. "They did... they took away his phone. God dammit." Policeman 2 replied, his eyes on the road and his hands on the steering wheel.

The atmosphere in the police car was heavy. Everyone was pretty much upset. They all thought that after they caught Phillip, they were done. Their investigation was over. This quest for revenge was over. But man were they wrong! Little did they know, ending this investigation would not be easy.
