Before entering the bathroom, Chen Yunsheng took out the key Ji Fanyin had given him and stared at it for a good minute. While he understood that this was just a formality in this era of electronic locks, it still meant the world to him.
He picked up the key necklace, only to put it down a moment later. He racked his brain, and an idea soon came to him. He carefully folded the necklace and slotted it into the back of his phone cover. Then, he brought his phone with him into the bathroom.
After he was done bathing, he laid down on his bed but found himself more awake than ever. He felt no urge to sleep at all.
He had always been consistent with his sleeping cycle, to the point others called him a disciplined old soldier. He was the type who could fall asleep as soon as it was time.
It didn’t make sense for him to suffer from insomnia.
Chen Yunsheng flipped and rolled around his bed, even punching his pillow to vent his overflowing energy. In the end, he took out his phone and sent a message to Ji Fanyin: 【Big sis, are you asleep?】
Ten seconds later, Ji Fanyin dropped him a call.
Chen Yunsheng quickly accepted the call and placed his phone against his ear.
“Are you going to tell me a bedtime story?” Ji Fanyin asked.
“I can play some sleeping music for you.” Chen Yunsheng quickly stood up and rushed to his study table. “I stayed with my job after you left and composed music for quite a few movies afterward. I recorded some of them on my laptop.”
With the intention to boast, he clicked into a file and quickly scrolled through his collection of songs, hoping to find the most suitable one for the occasion.
“Have you considered trying your hand at something else now that you’re in a new world?” Ji Fanyin asked.
Her lazy voice tickled Chen Yunsheng's sensitive ears, causing them to turn red.
“I like this job. There'll be different movies to work on in this world. I don't think I'll get bored of it,” replied Chen Yunsheng.
He finally found the OSTs he had received critical acclaim and awards for. He took in a deep breath before nervously playing one of them.
Many people in the other world adored these OSTs, but there was no guarantee Ji Fanyin would feel the same.
“You must really love your work,” Ji Fanyin said as she listened to the music. A moment later, she added with a smile, “Me too.”
“That’s why I have to thank you for bringing me into this industry.” Chen Yunsheng placed his phone on speaker before placing it next to the laptop. “Otherwise, I wouldn’t have known that I could feel so passionate for a job.”
Shen Qi had thought that his feelings would quickly fade given how short they had known each other for. Chen Yunsheng had also doubted himself for a long time.
But Ji Fanyin had seeped into all parts of his life in this short period of time. He started composing music for movies because of her. He started learning cooking because of her. She was everywhere even when she was no longer around.
While some feelings faded with time, some were obstinately clung on.
By the time the music player moved on to the second song, Chen Yunsheng cleared his throat and nervously asked, “How is it?”
There was no response.
Stunned, Chen Yunsheng paused the music and leaned closer to his phone. “Big sis?”
It was a while before Ji Fanyin's murmur sounded through the phone, “Mmm. Don’t stop the music.”
Her words were slurred like a lazy cat drifting into the dreamland.
Chen Yunsheng resumed playing the soundtrack, but he couldn’t help but wonder what she meant.
If she’s feeling sleepy after hearing my music, does it mean that she’s bored or that she feels secure?
