After Chen Yunsheng left, everyone in the common working space immediately started gossiping amongst themselves. It was almost as if they were a group of voyagers spotting new land.
Ji Fanyin witnessed everything that happened from an office roughly ten meters away.
The person behind her said, “Miss Ji, is he the one you’re interested in? I wouldn’t be surprised that others would want him given his skills, but you could have just told your assistant to drop me a call. There’s no need for you to personally come down.”
Those who had been in the industry for a long time would naturally become acquainted with others in the same field. Take the boss of this company for example, he had once received Ji Fanyin’s help, so the two of them were on fairly good terms with each other.
Thanks to that, Ji Fanyin could march right through the company’s doors and demand for Chen Yunsheng.
“I want to know more about him.” Ji Fanyin turned the rotating chair back and sat down on it. She then looked at the other party and smiled. “He’s reluctant to tell me.”
“… May I know what’s the relationship between the two of you? Is it just a game or…”
Ji Fanyin rested her head on her arm and replied, “You should direct that question at him. To me, he’s someone who has my house key.”
It was impossible to tell how a relationship would turn out till it finally reached that step. Ji Fanyin was only giving Chen Yunsheng the chance she had deprived him of back then. This was not the first time she had given out chances to others, but no one had been able to stay on till the end.
The boss stretched his chubby cheeks. “… I understand. You can take him with you. What do you want to know about him?”
“Tell me everything you know.” Ji Fanyin shrugged. “I’ll treat you to lunch.”
The boss sighed deeply from the other side of the office table. “He came to our company two months ago. Like most university graduates, he didn’t have much on his resume. Our company doesn’t expect much out of our interns, so we hired him. However, his performance so far surpasses our wildest imagination. You're also a veteran in our industry; you should know how even the most talented music composers can stumble over subtle details.”
Ji Fanyin rested in her chair and nodded in comprehension. “But that’s not the case for him.”
“Right. He always speaks in an unhurried manner, enunciating every word and syllable clearly… Sometimes I wonder whether it’s his upbringing or the experiences he has been through. It's just that he gives off a distant feeling. A person with his looks is bound to be popular, but no one dares to confess to him.”
Out of sheer curiosity, Ji Fanyin asked, “Really? How popular is he?”
“… Nowhere on par with you, of course. If I may ask, how many people knows about your relationship with him?”
Ji Fanyin did a quick count. “Four, including you.” I don’t know whether Shen Qi can be considered as a ‘person’ or not, but I’ll just add him into the count.
The boss breathed out a sigh of relief. “That’s good. I think the best thing I have done in my life is not falling for you.”
Ji Fanyin chuckled as she straightened the nameplate on the other party’s office table. “Let’s bring the topic back to Chen Yunsheng. There should be plenty to talk about since he’s been in your company for two months now.”
Lunchtime, the boss called Chen Yunsheng’s superior over.
“He’s Chen Yunsheng’s direct superior. He’d know more than me.” The boss slyly unloaded the burden on his subordinate.
Ji Fanyin smiled at the superior, who was showing a series of animated expressions. “Pleased to meet you.”
The superior hurriedly calmed himself and returnd the greeting. “P-pleased to meet you too!”
“I want to know more about Chen Yunsheng.” Ji Fanyin gestured for the superior to take a seat. “Can you tell me what you know about him in detail?”
The superior quickly took a seat near the boss. “Chen Yunsheng? Is he your relative?”
“No,” Ji Fanyin refuted the claim.
The superior alternated his gaze between his boss and Ji Fanyin, and a look of horror slowly appeared on his face.
Well, I guess if there are people born with stiff faces, there's bound to be people born with flexible facial muscles too. He sure knows how to put them to good use.
The boss cleared his throat and said, “Hurry up and get on with it.”
The lunch session turned out to be an interrogation, where Ji Fanyin questioned them about every single detail. By the time they left the hotel, both the boss and the superior felt like their souls had left their bodies.
Before Ji Fanyin got into her car, she suddenly recalled the calendar she had seen on the boss’ table earlier and asked, “Are you having a celebration dinner tomorrow night?”
“Ah, yes. If everything goes well, we should be able to wrap up our project tomorrow and receive our renumeration.” The boss paused for a moment before adding, “Chen Yunsheng is the main contributor to the project.”
He discreetly glanced at Ji Fanyin’s expression and immediately understood her intention. So, he obediently gave her the time and location of the celebration dinner.
After receiving what she wanted, Ji Fanyin waved her hand. “See you tomorrow.”
The boss: “…” Do we really have to see each other again tomorrow?
