Chapter 27 The Fallen Alchemist

“Hey, what’s with that look?”

Elise showed signs of losing her temper again when she felt Lin Ge’s scrutinizing gaze.

Lin Ge didn’t want to provoke her at this time, so he quietly looked away and walked to the bookshelf next to the alchemy table.

“Are these your cocktail recipes?”

“Those are the notes left behind by the alchemist who once lived here. I learned my bartending skills from his notes.”

“Alchemy notes? Mixing drinks?”

Lin Ge was curious. He took a thick book from the shelf. There was a line of faint handwritten words on the cover that read “Delicious Edible Plants”.

After a rough glance, the book recorded the plants in this world, including detailed information like the place where the plants grew, their taste, toxicity, and how to eat them. On Earth, wine was also made from various plants. For example, grape wine was made from grapes, beer was made from barley, and yellow wine was made from rice, millet, black rice, corn, glutinous rice, and wheat. There was also the famous Mexican tequila.

In addition, there are types of wine for cocktails. The wine starts with distilled wine or brewed wine. Through blending, soaking, mixing, and other techniques, various herbs, seeds, and fruits are added to the mix, thus producing various wines. For example, the various types of absinthe that are made from a combination of red wine and wormwood, or Chinese medicinal wines that have different medicinal materials.

As he flipped through the list, he found that the characteristics and compatibility of several plants seemed very familiar, very similar to some wine-mixing materials on Earth. If these plants were used as raw materials, he might be able to make a new wine, a wine that was unique to this world.

A strange and unexplored new world of wine seemed to be slowly opening up in front of his eyes. This made him more excited than discovering that there was magic in this world.

He took another book from the shelf, which was called “Biological Materials for Making Delicious Drinks”. He flipped through a few pages, and his face changed.

There were some strange materials recorded on it, some quite bizarre like octopus blood, evil eye monster’s eyeballs, thunder leopard’s spinal fluid, three-legged ape’s pituitary gland, and some other strange monster organs. He even saw several kinds of excrement…

He stuffed the book back onto the shelf with mixed feelings and said worriedly, “Elise, tell me you didn’t add anything weird like eyeballs to the customers’ glasses.”

Elise replied with a straight face, “Yes, I did. There’s a drink in the notes here. You add the eyeballs of a hundred-eyed monster to the wine, then mix it with the milk of a female Chimera. The eyeballs of a hundred-eyed monster are very small and round, just like pearls, so the drink is called the pearl milk wine.”

“Did the customer drink it?”

Elise scratched her head in embarrassment, “He did, but he never came back.”

Good God, no wonder there were so few customers in the Emeralds bar, Lin Ge groaned in his heart.

There weren’t many customers who were qualified to enter the shop, to begin with, and the customers who had come with great difficulty had been tortured by Elise’s evil drinks. Lin Ge suddenly felt heavy pressure.

If those customers returned to the shop, he would do his best to save the reputation of the Emeralds bar.

“Where’s the notebook?”

Elise took a black leather notebook from the shelf and handed it to Lin Ge.

“Here, this is it.”

The cover of the notebook seemed to be made of some kind of creature’s skin. It felt very tough to the touch, and there were no words on the cover. However, on the lower right corner of the title page, a name was scribbled.

Ravid Rewa.

This should be the name of the alchemist.

In addition, there were four words written as well: Understanding, disintegration, conversion, and formation.

These were probably the ideas of the alchemist named Ravid.

Lin Ge continued to read. This notebook was indeed a serious study of alchemy at the beginning. It recorded Ravid’s alchemy insights. The front pages were filled with strange symbols and pictures, accompanied by obscure and even completely incomprehensible words.

However, strange formulas began to appear in the later parts, as well as the feeling after drinking the concoctions and the direction of modification.

For example, there was a drink called the “Undermoon Killer”: “5 grams of night demon flower pollen, 20 milliliters of fresh silver ring snake blood, 3 grams of vengeful spirit powder, and 40 milliliters of ale. The color of the mixture is beautiful and slightly red, somewhat like the noble wine in the capital. It tastes refreshing and slightly bitter but has a strong aftereffect. If the blood of the silver ring snake’s advanced species, the silver flying snake, can be added, it might help to improve the taste…’ After reaching a certain page, the obscure words and mysterious patterns all disappeared, leaving only strange recipes and ideas. Then, a page recorded the confession of the alchemist named Ravid: “The God of Alchemy, the great sage Hodheim, please give me some guidance. Does the holy stone that contains the secret of immortality really exist? I spent my entire life studying alchemy, but I still can’t figure out how to make holy stones. I can’t even see any hope. However, my beautiful, sun-like hair has already left me. Please forgive your humble believer, the God of Alchemy Hodheim. I have used alchemy to satisfy my despicable food desires, and I will continue to fall. Respectfully from your insignificant apprentice alchemist, Ravid.”

Lin Ge silently closed the notebook.

There was no doubt that this alchemist named Ravid was a pioneer in mine mixing in this world. Perhaps he had accidentally discovered this in the process of studying alchemy, so he had recorded it.

Although Ravid had added some strange materials to his wine due to alchemy, his approach was definitely groundbreaking. If he hadn’t studied alchemy at the beginning but wine, he would have very likely become a legendary bartender.

It was a pity that his notes did not spread. His only successor was a stupid spider who did not know anything about bartending. Elise’s sharp senses detected that Lin Ge was looking at her. There was a hint of sorrow and sympathy in his eyes, which made her feel very unhappy.

“Hey, if you look at me like that again, I’m really going to beat you up.”

She was so sharp. Was it her spider-sense?

Lin Ge silently retracted his gaze and placed the notebook back on the shelf. He said, “Can I photocopy the books on the shelf?”

“Photocopy?”

Lin Ge took out the photocopy magic book he had bought from Allison’s magic item store. There were still some empty pages in it. “Well, copy.”

“Oh? Do you want to learn the recipes?”

“I wouldn’t dare to add anything weird to a customer’s drink,” Lin Ge shook his head with a bitter smile, “I’m just using it as a reference.

Maybe I can develop a wine that belongs to this world.”

“You’re quite creative. Sure, but you have to teach me as soon as you develop a new formula.”

“No problem,” Lin Ge agreed readily. He recorded all the books on the shelf into the photocopy magic book and planned to read them slowly when he got back. There were not many customers in the shop right now anyway, so he had plenty of time every day. When he turned around, he saw a spider the size of a fist near Elise’s ear. It seemed to be saying something to her. Elise had a surprised expression. “Oh? Someone has entered the depths of the cave?”
