"Bram should be returning soon, will you be leaving when he comes back?"

Upon hearing the mention of his name, Elena's eyes turned watery and a joyous smile broke out on her face.

"Yes, that is what I'm planning to do."

Elizabeth lifted an arm and plucked it down on the table next to her. She held her exquisite chin on her hands, looking at the maiden in love with envy. "Lucky you, I thought we promised each other to wait until we both found a man. But you left me far behind! Sigh, when will I be able to find the one for me..."

Elena tittered, "If I had to wait for you then I would be waiting forever. With your standards being so high, how can any man move your heart? You know, If you lowered them a bit you could have anyone to your picking." Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.novelhall.com for visiting.

"I know I know... what should I do Elena, your words make sense but that would not help me out here. My pride won't allow me to take anyone worse than me, how troublesome... Will I have to live out the rest of my days all with my lonely self?"

Thinking of a certain person in mind, Elizabeth alluringly raised her delicate arm into the air, examining it in fine detail. She suggestively smiled and her voice turning enchanting, "I am waiting for the true one for me."

Elena's heart skipped a beat.

"Oh, that's right. Where had Austin been for the past month? To think even I could not find him for so long, what could have happened?"

"..."

"Elena?"

"Au-Austin? Right... I don't know what happened to him either! This morning I was in the Library and he appeared out of nowhere. He said he fell asleep in there and for some reason... errr, woke up a month later...?"

"Hahahaha, what kind of a fishy lie is that. You've never been good at keeping secrets Elena, who would fall for such a dumb story." Elizabeth chuckled out loud, holding her belly in laughter and only calming down after a good while. "It's fine if you don't want to tell me the truth, I won't pry into it."

Elena had an embarrassed look on her face, she stood there awkwardly with her eyes darting around, but let out a deep breath of relief since Elizabeth did not confront her.

"Thank you Elizabeth," she said with a grateful smile.

When Austin told him what had really happened, Elena knew she had to keep it a secret at all costs. But she was a virtuous woman and did not like lying so she was never much any good at it. Towards Elizabeth's discerning eyes, Elena knew anything she said to keep the truth under covers would be too obviously suspicious. Thankfully, Elizabeth realized her intents and did not trouble her about it.

But off to the side, Elena did not see Elizabeth's burning eyes.

...

Elsewhere, Austin and Laura had gone back to the Residence. On the way there, they encountered some maids and Austin told them to prepare some warm food for Laura. He made sure to tell them exactly what to make since she could not eat anything heavy after starving her body for so long.

Laura's legs were still weak and she barely had energy left. If it wasn't for the fear of doing so, she would have fallen asleep. But she tried her best to stay awake, afraid Austin would not be there when she woke up.

Austin tried carrying Laura on his back, but she did not have the strength to hold on and would slip off if he did. So he wrapped one arm underneath her bottom and used his other arm to support her back. Like this, Laura was hugging Austin in the air with her head weakly resting on his shoulders. Feeling her breath on his neck, Austin panicked at first because it was so faint, but realized she was just really tired.

It was a good thing Austin was a little bigger than Laura, otherwise, he would not have been able to keep on carrying her in this position. Like a father holding his baby, the two of them looked funny because they were nearly the same size. The spectators who saw them pass by stopped and stared for a while, surprised by how Austin was able to hold onto Laura.

Reaching Laura's bedroom, Austin had to kick the door open as his hands were occupied. Despite the rest of her body being so bony and skinny, the certain part he was touching somehow remained soft and fluffy. If it was at any other time, Austin would be praising it in appreciation.

Seeing how Laura was still awake, Austin gently sighed and told her, "why don't you sleep Laura, your body needs to rest first." He walked over to the bed and carefully laid her down after pulling out the covers. As he did so, he felt some slight resistance from Laura wanting to stay in his hold.

Noticing this, Austin made sure not to let go of her hand, tightly clutching it in his as he adjusted the pillows and covered Laura with the blankets, trying to get her to sleep.

For the past month, Laura had always remained sitting by the window, and she would only fall asleep until her body could not work anymore. Feeling the comfort of the bed and all of the exhaustion surge over her, Laura's eyes were involuntarily shutting as her body relaxed. Her subconscious desire to sleep was ignoring her conscious of wanting to stay awake. Yet, Laura seemed to be putting up a fight. Turning her head to Austin, she looked like there was something she wanted to say.

Austin warmly smiled and tenderly caressed her head. "Go to bed."

Laura's eyes were forced to close and without long, she fell into slumber.

Austin's brows were raised as he delicately tucked Laura into the cozy comfort of the bed, not letting go of her hand. Seeing how Laura greeted him this morning, he did not realize she had been so tired until now.
