A week later.
In the garden of the Royal Residence, Austin was laying down on a small mound in the shade of a tree. His arms were placed behind his head and his eyes were closed in relaxation. Inside his mouth, a leaf was being chewed on, carrying the fragrance of a lazy spring day.
"Look Austin!"
His ears twitched, hearing a shrill and excited voice. Opening his eyes at the sight before him, a buoyant smile blossomed on his face.
In plain view, Laura was frolicking among the assortment of beauteous flowers.
Tentatively taken care of every day, they were all fully bloomed and rich in color, painting a mesmerizing landscape with Laura's vibrant, silken dress as she skipped around and laughed in joy.
The sun shone brightly in the clear, blue sky and her hair danced happily in the cool breeze. She had gone back to being her child-life self and it was a happy occasion for Austin to celebrate.
Laura had been without any worries for her entire life. As the Princess, she had always gotten what she wanted and was not yet acquainted with the feeling of being let down. There would come a point when every once innocent child has to break out of their shell. For Laura, Austin had always been half of her life. When he disappeared, Laura was hit especially hard and she felt real sadness for the first time.
She was introduced to the reality of life and was able to grow up a little after that experience. Unfortunately, it made her even more attached to Austin.
For every day of the last week, Austin was forced to hug Laura to sleep, feed her every meal, even going as far as to change her clothes in the morning and night. Laura got rid of all the maids who used to tend to her and made Austin take on all of their duties. Before, he was only a slacking butler, but now he had become something like a slave.
Austin only accepted and allowed her to act like this to make up for the suffering he caused her. To control her behavior, he was only going to pamper her until she got better. Even though Laura was a wild Princess and did not listen to anyone including Elizabeth, she had never been able to go against what Austin said.
"This is for you Austin!"
Laura had a brilliantly purple lilac in her hand. She picked the best-looking one in the garden.
Holding it in front of Austin, she excitedly showed it off. "Your eyes are so beautiful Austin, I choose the prettiest one because it matches them!" She bent down in front of Austin, wanting him to take it from her.
Austin sat up and put his hand on her head, tenderly stroking it. "Haha, thank you, Laura. What a lovely gift." Laura closed her eyes as she enjoyed Austin's touch with a blissful grin.
Austin took the flower from her hand but did not hold onto it. When she opened her eyes, Austin was suddenly only a few inches away. He delicately tucked the lilac into Laura's ear, wrapping it around her velvety hair to keep it in place. Stupefied, Laura's small, cute eyes were staring right at Austin.
Completing the finishing touches, Austin moved backward and nodded in approval of his fine creation. "Mn, like I thought, it fits very well on you Laura." The bright purple of the lilac matched gorgeously with her dark black hair, making her even more adorable.
Laura, not expecting her gift to be given back to her, could not respond in surprise. She slowly brought a hand up to her hair and touched the flower very carefully. A warmth was still there from when Austin was holding it. Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.novelhall.com for visiting.
She turned to Austin with her gaze pointed slightly downwards, her hand not leaving the flower. "But... I got this for you..."
Austin smiled at her. "You gave it to me so I'm giving it to you. It looks very beautiful on you so keep it."
Finally, Laura was not able to contain her joy. She jumped up in happiness and said to Austin, "then let's go and find more flowers! Come on Austin!" She tugged on his hand, trying to pull him up.
But Austin only laughed and fell back onto the ground. "It won't look good with so many of them on your head, one is enough. You have much more to learn about the beauty of a woman Laura."
Laura's smile turned into a pout and her sudden adrenaline rush became vexation, displeased by how Austin treated her. She plopped down with a thud next to him with her head buried between her knees, looking like she was sulking.
Austin bitterly smiled. 'Why did she get so angry?' He tugged on her shoulder, "ok ok. I only said that because you look better with one flower. Don't get mad."
Laura brought her head out from between her knees and faced Austin. Tears were glistening down her face.
Caught off guard, Austin panicked, sitting up in fright. "Hey..."
"Do you, have to leave?" Laura's voice was shaky.
Understanding what happened now, Austin's tenseness relaxed. He let out a sigh. "...It's not like you won't see me again. I will come and visit often."
"But why?" More tears gushed out from her eyes.
Austin did not give her a reply straightaway. He turned his head to the boundless blue sky and whispered, "why huh..."
With stars twinkling in his eyes, he sat up a little straighter. "I have a dream to explore the entire world, to see and feel everything out there." Austin became fervent and revealed a mesmerizing smile. "I want to reach the most magical place in the universe.
That's why..."
Laura was dumbfounded. Her mouth widened into an O-shape and the stars in Austin's eyes seemed to enter into hers. She was breath-taken, only able to entertain one thought at the time. 'Amazing...'
While the two were captured in a stupor, they did not notice a maid that was hiding in the shadows behind them, listening in on their conversation. Her eyes were targeted on the naive boy, revealing a sinister smile and morphing into the darkness. She left the scene.
