The voice was so loud it penetrated through the entire residence and drummed on everyone's ear bells.
"Uncles' back!" Laura's eyes gleamed in shimmer and she shouted excitedly.
"That fool..." Austin groaned with annoyance. He knew who it was straight away. Only one man had the audacity to come anywhere near the residence and make such a big disturbance. Who else could it be but his father?
A metallic noise was made from the grinding of a chair shifting against the floor. Next thing he knew, Laura had already run off with a spring in her step, forgetting about eating anything altogether. Austin's puckered expression loosened and he grudgingly followed after her, a smile appearing on his face as he left the Dining Hall.
Where the entrance of the Residence opened into, several maids were gathered in the large, open hall around a big, burly man. Being at least 1 to 2 heads taller than everyone there, he was easily spotted in the crowd.
Most of the maids there were alarmed and had defensive stances. They knew Elizabeth did not allow any man near the Residence. They thought the one who had suddenly barged in was an intruder. The rest of the maids, however, were describing the situation and calming everyone down. They had been in the Residence longer and clearly knew the visitor who was treating this place as his own home.
Amid all the chaos, the man was just standing there like he had nothing to do with anything. He was the biggest person the maids have ever seen.
Thick, broad shoulders with large, intimidating muscles, his body was shaped more like an ape than a human's. He was dressed in a golden-red cloak and wore full-body armor made of some type of uncommon metal. Latched onto his back, was a gigantic mallet nearly the same size as him and judging by its appearance, weighed a thousand tonnes.
Without a doubt, the man was a top-tier warrior. He had gentle, purplish eyes with short, messy black hair. Smiling from ear to ear, he gave off a very friendly vibe that did not complement his tyrannical body. The unnerved maids of the Royal Residence were elite Warriors, but they were too scared to make a move.
After a short period, the place calmed down and two silhouettes appeared. Seeing who had come, the maids instantly parted and made an opening for them.
"Husband!" One of them was Elena. She walked hastily towards the man in a flustered manner and jumped into his arms. Seeing their cold and mighty Head Maid's behavior, most of the maids had their eyes widened in surprise, immediately thanking their instincts for not attacking the man earlier.
Bram opened his bulky arms in welcome of Elena. The thickness of his arms seemed like it would crush her but Elena showed no discomfort and her own arms wrapped around his.
"You're back..." Elena said warmly with watery eyes. She was a sentimental woman. Her love for Austin and Bram were the most precious things in her world and she would do anything for them. After half a year of being away, her husband had come back at last.
Seeing Elena after so long, Bram's loud voice became quiet and his exuberance from when had arrived coiled out. Letting out a deep breath of air, Bram whispered back to her, "I'm back..." His shoulders dropped a little and the burning zeal in his eyes turned into a calming passion. Finally hit with the reality of arriving home, Bram realized his body and mind were drained and worn out.
Behind them, Elizabeth looked at her only two friends in the world with a brimming smile. Over the past six months, she had spotted Elena with a melancholic gaze when she was alone on a few occasions. Elizabeth was glad he came back safe and sound, knowing what he set out to do a half a year ago was a difficult mission.
Then, another two silhouettes appeared from the entrance to the hall, this time sporting a child's figure.
"Mother!"
Turning around, Laura was adorably running towards her with her arms outstretched. Elizabeth's smiled turned brighter as she picked Laura up. Her little girl had finally returned to normal and called her 'Mother' again.
Glancing over Laura's shoulder, Elizabeth spotted an Austin who was calmly walking over. Because of his unique appearance, his presence was hard not to notice. Elizabeth found his some-what carefree behavior funny. She winked at him, then signaled for the maids to leave the hall. In tandem, they all left immediately. The Residence was usually peaceful and quiet apart from Laura's periodic outbursts, so the sudden occurrence caused some murmuring among the maids as they were leaving.
Austin was smiling with dimpled cheeks when out of nowhere, he felt a sharp chill down his spine!
!!!
Quickly turning to the direction of where it came from, Austin saw half the figure of a maid who was exiting the hall around a corner. It was only for a split second, but Austin saw her gazing straight at him just before she twirled around and left.
It had been a very long time but he most certainly could not mistake that feeling.
After a lifetime of slaughter and death, it had been deeply engraved into his bones.
'Was that killing intent?'
Seeing Austin stop in his tracks and glancing elsewhere, Elizabeth peered over to where his sights were trained on and saw nothing but empty space. She confusedly questioned him, "Austin? What are you doing?"
Austin spent a second longer in thought before turning around to meet Elizabeth. He brightly smiled like nothing had happened and started walking again. "Nothing!"
To the newcomer, Austin shouted, "Welcome home Father!"
"Son! Wow. You've gotten so big, I almost couldn't recognize you!" Bram was more than double Austin's height so he had to bend down to ruffle his hair. With a proud and cheerful expression, he declared, "Hahahaha, my son turned out so handsome! You have your father to thank for your luck with girls in the future!"
Elena clicked her tongue and snarled, "You? He looks nothing like you. If my husband had even half of my son's handsomeness than I would be happy forever!" Elena was usually reserved but her true side was brought out in this merry moment.
'Ahahaha..." Bram was crouching in front of Austin as he awkwardly laughed. Hearing Elena's words, he stared keenly at his son for a few long seconds before scratching his head. "Really... he does not look like me..."
They both had purple eyes and naturally friendly faces, but Austin's eyes were much brighter and beautiful. They were simply a magnet of captivation. His sculpted nose and thin lips looked nothing like Bram's big mouth and nose. One of them had exquisite facial features at the epitome of handsomeness whilst the other looked... well, dumb.
"Arghh, why is my son so much better looking than me!" Bram was grieving as he gripped onto Austin and shook him back and forth by the shoulders.
Elizabeth was chuckling by the side, her proud mountains moving in spectacular fashion with the momentum.
Laura jumped out of her arms and stood up to Bram, tugging his elephant-like arm to get his attention. When she heard what Bram said about Austin, her excitement was lost and she became upset. Being provoked, she took action and had an intimidating look in her eyes. "Uncle!"
Bram felt a soft little thing beside him and turned to his side, he beamed with happiness seeing the cute girl. He picked her up instead of answering. "Oh my! Is that Laura?" Bram stood up himself and held her into the air, then rubbed his rough stubble against her chin. Feeling how soft it was, he was delighted. "Hahaha. You're grown even cuter!"
"Stop it uncle!" Laura did not like it, flailing her arms and trying to push him away, but the strength she mustered did not move Bram an inch.
"Oh, sorry I couldn't help it!" Bram put her down after seeing Laura's reaction and she ran to Elizabeth unhappily.
"Why did you do that to Laura!" Elena hit her husband and condemned him. She apologetically looked at Elizabeth.
"Hehe, it's ok. Laura is not really angry." Elizabeth chimed in whilst Laura was hugging onto her leg. She warmly smiled at Bram "Welcome back."
Bram grinned. "Thanks Elizabeth. Look's like you're doing well." He set his gigantic mallet down, It dropped down with so much heavy force that it looked the floor would be crushed.
Laura quickly stopped looking at him with irritation after a while and went up to him again. This time welcoming him with a hug to which Bram happily replied and patted her head. The two of them looked more like child and father than Austin did. In fact, Bram has always treated Laura as his daughter because she never had a 'real' father.
"Has Austin been treating you well?" Bram asked Laura with a doting expression.
"Yes! Very well!" Laura liked Bram so much not only because he was a parent to her, but because he spoiled and protected her. Remembering what Austin said in the Dining Hall, Laura happily beamed. "Austin said-"
"Ahem." Austin coughed. 'Wait, don't tell them that!' He blinked repeatedly at Laura, signaling for her not to continue.
"Dad must be tired. Mother, you should go rest with him first." He quickly made up an excuse.
"Haha, my son is caring as ever." Bram ruffled Austin's head again and messed his hair further. "I am indeed very tired. So, what do you say, to our room?" Bram smiled at Elena with an enthusiasm that hid another intent in mind.
"Okay then. We will go and rest first." Elena's cheeks blushed a little.
"Go ahead. We will prepare a feast tonight so make sure you don't 'sleep' for too long." Elizabeth humidly smiled at Elena and encouraged them to leave.
"That sounds good, see you later then!" Bram, not caring for the sparks between the two women, quickly left the hall with Elena's hand in hold.
'Those two...' Although Austin was plenty mature enough. It felt weird no matter what knowing what his parents were up to. Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.novelhall.com for visiting.
A pair of arms unexpectedly swiped him up and his head landed against two squashy cushions. "Austin! I haven't seen you for sooo long!" Elizabeth cuddled him in her bosom.
Laura was pulling her leg and jumping up trying to catch Austin's foot. "Mother, stop! You're hurting him!"
Austin inwardly sighed. "What kind of a reunion is this..."
