"Did something happen with Elizabeth Austin?" Elena inquired as they moved out of the Palace. With the day just beginning, there was no one else around except for a few patrolling guards. Seeing Bram leading the carriage, they all stopped and saluted. The guards were all apathetic in appearance and did not seem like the type of men who would react to anything, but there was homage in their expressions. Clearly, Bram was a well-known and respected figure in the Nation.
"Nothing at all," Austin responded to Elena whilst fiddling with something underneath the hems of his sleeves.
He lied.
In the end, Elizabeth found out what Austin had done. He first tried to fib and tell her he had just been stuck in the hidden room for a month. Unfortunately, Elizabeth was very thorough in her investigations. She knew the guardians had checked the room during that time and pointed out his lie immediately. Following her warning, she became even more intimidating and looked like she wouldn't go easy on him if he lied to her again.
Austin had no choice but to spill the beans.
Like she suspected but did not dare believe, Elizabeth confirmed he had entered the star constellation. Learning of his affinity to at least five Magical Attributes, Elizabeth did not freak out as much as Elena or Bram did. Instead, she went deep into thought and was completely silent for a whole minute. Her arms were wrapped out Austin the entire time and he felt chills every time her sweet breaths trickled his neck.
But Elizabeth did not do anything more to Austin like he thought she would. She did not ask what he received from the star constellation or any other questions. Instead, she put him on the ground and pulled out the necklace around her neck, passing it to him with a palpable trembling in her hands. Befuddled, Austin looked at the out-of-character Elizabeth with peculiarity.
"Leave the Palace - that is a wise choice. It is not the safest place you can be. Unfortunately, I do not have the power to protect you by your side.
This is a life-saving treasure. Use it if you ever get into danger. In return for it, I only hope you will help me out with something in the future. Remember this, your safety is the most important. Stay alive at all costs."
Austin had never seen Elizabeth so serious before. Her gaze was strange and almost pleading like, seeming to contain a faint trace of yearning within it.
He was taken aback by her sudden soberness.
Then, she transformed back just as quickly. "I will keep your secret safe. Let's get going now." She returned to her usual smile and tugged him by the hand.
...
Austin thought back on what Elizabeth told him. 'The Residence isn't the safest place even with her there? Isn't Elizabeth supposed to be stronger than the King? That should make her the most powerful figure in the Krashal Family.'
He recalled the maid in the residence. 'What other dangers are hidden there...?'
Caressing the necklace, Austin exposed it slightly from underneath his sleeves. He then inspected it; a rainbow of colors gathered in his bright, purple eyes before dissipating in an instant. Austin felt a great wave of lethargy rush over him. All his energy was sapped performing this action just once. He was barely able to sit up straight but kept his composure next to Elena with an iron-clad will.
In his mind, Austin was laughing to himself. 'Who was I kidding.... of course it would have some limits. Otherwise, it would be too overpowered. Haha, I don't know if I'm happy about this or not. Apart of me wanted to be an unstoppable Demon King. Well, let's be realistic here...'
At that moment, Austin had activated his Magical eyes to inspect the necklace Elizabeth had given him. Austin was curious because she was wearing it on her body before giving it to him and told him it was a life-saving treasure. Judging by her serious demeanor when she passed it to him, he knew it had to be something special. His skill could see through all Magic but it was the first time using it on an object. Fortunately, it worked on non-living things. The price for activating it, however, even just for a short moment, was significant.

'So there are Magical items like this as well...'
From reading the books in the Library, Austin knew Magic could be imbued into items for enhancements. Looking at the coruscate armor Bram was wearing, he was sure it was not normal. However, it was Austin's first time hearing of anything like this pendant.
Magical accessories offered enhancements more unique compared to other equipment and were the rarest in Fantasia. But the one in his hands was even more uncommon. It had a skill itself embedded with it; one so nature-defying at that. How is this possible...
What kind of monster could have made this?
Austin was perplexed - Elizabeth had really given him a priceless treasure for seemingly no good reason. She said he wanted him to do something for her in the future, but what could it be that was so important?
Besides curiosity, an impeding discomfort was tapping on the wall to his mind. He felt it, but could not pinpoint its source...
On the rocky road, the fast-moving carriage rocked up and forth on the sticks and stones.
The family of three were moving back to Elena's hometown, which was not too far away but did require a few days of travel.
Not bustling with people and being fairly close to the Palace - It was an ideal place for them to stay.
Elena happily conversed with Bram, sharing memories of her old home and all the people she knew there.
In the once-clear sky above them, a low growl of thunder danced across the gathering gloomy clouds.
...
The grey skies welcomed the opening eyes of two old masters.
"Brother, is fighting Bram worth it to get rid of his kid? We know not of his true strength, but that man will be no pushover."
Amos' eyes were closed in meditation, his decision already made.
"It is unfortunate for him to be the father of the kid, but that does not change my plans. There is no need to take any risks. Don't fight him, just keep him distracted and kill the target. There should be no problem with the two of you going. The girl is an important piece on our board, there must be no accidents," he said in a cold, calm tone.
"Remember to check for prying eyes before engaging, and limit your powers to be safe."
Amos' long, white hair fluttered with a 'swoosh' of wind. The two wooden mats beside him now empty.
