'Zoom!'

The wind blade struck the rocky ground, penetrating a few meters into the hard Earth. The damage behind it was lethal enough to cleanly cut off a person's limbs. Utilizing the element of the wind, its speed was nothing to scoff at. Without proper defense, one needed a high amount of focus and agility to avoid it.

Stepping back to avoid the wind blade, Elena was stopped in her tracks by the arriving assassin. He drew out the two daggers sheathed in his belt and was poised to attack.

Elena summoned a water bolt and sent it flying towards the assassin. Heavily depleted of mana, she had to rely on lower Rank spells that did not use up as much.

The water bolt was easily cut apart, not able to slow the assassin down at all.

Elena fired off two more but they also did not do anything.

'Slash!'

The assassin flew past, leaving a line of blood on her cheek. If Elena had not dodged in time, her life would have ended there and then.

'What happened?' The assassin thought. He could have sworn he felt his dagger being deflected by something just before his attack. Thinking she just got lucky, he cleaned the blood off his dagger and flew forwards once again. Whilst Elena was being taken care of, the second assassin was fast approaching Austin. They were going to end both their lives.

"NO!" Bram was trailing off in the distance, but the loudness and desperation in his voice still reached their ears.

He only vaguely spotted Elena stumbling as the assassin dashed past her whilst the other one rushed towards Austin.  Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.novelhall.com for visiting.

He was doing his best to fight his way through, but the fire dragon's strength was not deteriorating at all and he was being pushed back further and further. Even if the dragon faded now, he was too far away to make it back in time.

Bram could no longer help.

Austin and Elena were on their own against the two elite cold-blooded killers. A child and a weakened Mage with no more mana, how could they make it out alive?

"STOP!!!" Bram put all his energy into one last roar, sending a shockwave through the entire forest. It stunned the enemies, but only for a second before they recovered and continued moving forward.

"Heh. What a fool. He thinks he can still save them in this situation. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to see their corpses in a while. Well, that's only if you survive my spell first." First Uncle grinned sinisterly. He used two powerful spells one after another and didn't have much mana left. He walked towards Second Uncle whilst taking out a red flask from somewhere."Here, drink this."

"Gah! That's better. That reckless brute. What kind of Warrior throws their weapon away in battle!"

"Alright, stop complaining. We suffered a lot of damage but at least we got the job done. Get ready to leave." First Uncle glanced at Bram's disappearing figure. 'In the end, how did they figure out we were going to attack...?'

The two of them were no longer paying attention to the battle, thinking it was one hundred percent a done deal this time. There's no possible way for them to be thwarted now.

If only one of them turned around, they would notice that one of the assassins was on the ground, dead.

~One minute earlier~

Sarah was heading for Austin with a menacing expression. She was the maid who had infiltrated the Royal Residence and reported to the King. For all this time, she was the one to suffer. Her sole objective had been to separate Austin and the Princess.

Yet, she could not find a way to rid of Austin and every time, had to report failure to the King. Being a stone-hearted killer, she did not care when the King stripped her down and used her body as punishment. But as she was ravaged more and more, rage inevitably built up inside and she directed it all at Austin, blaming it on him.

"Die!" With a cold grin on her face, Sarah got to him with her dagger raised to his neck. She saw his face every day but was not able to do anything to him. Now, there was nothing holding her back.

But then seeing how he had his eyes closed in fear. She inwardly sneered and retrieved her weapons. She didn't want him to die so easily. She wanted him to suffer in pain.

The green sheen radiating around her body dispersed and Sarah slowed down to a walk.

Sarah had no idea that Austin had closed his eyes on purpose for this moment. He had used his Magical Eyes and saw through her disguise. Immediately, he recognized her as the maid he felt killing intent from in the Residence. Using his experience and wisdom to quickly think up a plan, Austin acted like he was getting ready to die, hoping that she would drop her guard.

Just as Sarah was about to grip Austin's neck with her hands -

'Blast!'

A weak impact hit her chest. But then, the force continued digging through her flesh, bones, and into her heart.

'Bang!''Bang!'

Two earth spikes pierced through her stomach before she could do anything, leaving two wide holes with a great deal of blood pouring out. Then, she felt her heart being corroded alive and a second later - she dropped to the ground.

If it wasn't for the fact Sarah dispelled her barriers, Austin's Rank 0 spells would not have been able to penetrate through her body.

~Present~

Elena was weakly standing, limping with bloody gashes all over her body.

For a few more attacks, she had been able to avoid the assassin's killing strikes. But if she had barely any energy left from the start, then the straits she was in now were beyond desperate. She looked at the assassin rushing towards her once again and tried casting a spell, but her arm was unable to be raised anymore.

"Mother, we have to go!"

All she could hear was a constant buzzing noise inside her head. Her vision was shaking the entire time so she did not think anything of it when the world turned upside down.

Then, they were gone.
