"What do you mean they just disappeared!" First Uncle was seething with rage. His eyes were threatening to pop out of their sockets and his pointed finger was shaking in fury. If losing so many men wasn't already enough, now he was being told their targets vanished into thin air?
Amos did not personally send out commands on a regular basis. After retiring from the public, his mouth perhaps only opened once every few years. Regardless of what was going on, his orders were treated as the top priority and had to be completed with no exceptions.
"Preposterous!"
The assassin kept his silence, trained to be emotionless and never voice his opinion. But beneath the mask, his face was wet with nervous sweat. There were no excuses to give.
After his numerous strikes, Elena was barely hanging on and was about to cave in at any second. He was being careful and taking it slow to make sure her death would be safely secured. Just when he was about to deal the finishing strike, he saw the child running to Elena's side and was surprised because he should long be dead already. Checking what happened to Sarah, he was stunned to see her lying on the ground in her own pool of blood. Then when he turned around again, they were gone.
With Elena's condition, forget using any more magic, the best she could have done was retain her consciousness for a few more seconds. For her to have resisted for so long with her will alone was already extraordinary. He could only assume Elena was somehow able to use a teleportation skill even though it required a great deal of mana that she didn't have. Perhaps she found all the hidden energy inside her body when Austin appeared by her side. But then glancing around the open area, they were nowhere to be seen. His eyes were really not playing tricks on him. Their figures would still be within sight no matter how much mana she used.
"Do you think we're idiots!? This is your last chance. Explain yourself!" Second Uncle was not in any better of a state, he tried pointing towards the assassin but his broken arms did not respond, only limping on the floor. His face was so contorted that all the wrinkles of his old age were displayed. "Why are you the only one alive! What happened to the other one! How did she die! And WHERE DID THEY GO!"
The assassin repeated what he said for the fifth time, but it clearly was not calming anybody down.
For this mission to be successful, Amos even got them to come out of hiding and personally act. What were they supposed to say when they got back!?
"If that's all you have to say, then begone!" Second Uncle's anger was out of control. He was ready to do something impulsive.
"No, that's enough. However strange it may be, he is clearly speaking the truth. Regardless if they got away, the result is the same," First Uncle intervened. Their aim was to get rid of Austin. Though they were not able to eliminate him, the problem is still solved. "We will return and tell Amos the mission was successful. Don't kill him off unless you want to be the one to tell him we lost all of our men."
Second Uncle's eyes flashed with a trace of fear. "You want to lie to Amos? A-are you sure?" Then, he remembered what kind of person his brother was. It didn't matter if he was their younger brother or they were blood-related. The man was merciless and his tolerance for failure inexistent. Shaking with a greater fear from what would happen if they told him the truth, Second Uncle quickly changed his answer. "No-you're right. Even if the child somehow survived, he will not come back. But we need to take care of loose ends."
"Correct. I will go and finish him off now. You, follow me." First Uncle pulled a blue flask out and emptied its contents before leaving with the assassin.

Without stopping to tend to his wounds, Bram ran off, disappearing into the forest. There was a giant circle of black on the ground like there had been a giant explosion. Embers were all around it, still burning away. All the plants nearby were withered up and the part of the stream here had evaporated, leaving a dry piece of land that separated the two ends of the river. The cause of all this destruction was the fire dragon. Bram was finally able to overpower it before the spell expired. The force within it was not something that could suddenly be negated so it blew apart as a result.
After destroying it, Bram quickly hurried back to where Austin and Elena were, praying in his heart that they were still alive before he got there. He didn't have time to regret or think about anything else. Seeing only the enemies there with Austin and Elena missing, he became mortified. Because the thought terrified him so much, he couldn't think of anything else and immediately started panicking as his heart clenched in despair.
Then, he sensed the anger of First and Second Uncle which made him open his eyes to look again. Seeing one of the assassins laying dead on the ground and the other one kneeling seemingly at fault, a realization came to Bram and a heavy wave of reassurance washed over him. 'Their still alive... They must have escaped using the necklace!'
Earlier, Austin had told him the use of the necklace which Elizabeth gave him. Finding out it was a space-teleportation treasure, Bram was once again stupified at his son for owning such a thing... Their plan was to escape together using it. Thankfully, they left him behind and got away.
...
A significant portion of Bram's armor was melted and the skin underneath was still glowing red from the excruciating heat. His body was charred all over in heavy burns, his hands especially were deformed. They had suffered so much damage that Bram had lost feeling in them, whilst the rest of his body still felt like it was being burned alive. The pain was unimaginable and all he wanted to do was stop and rest. He had already escaped a good distance away so that wouldn't be a problem. The 'thuds' made on the ground were becoming lighter. 'THUD, THUD." Thinking of Austin and Elena, he sped up again, powerfully kicking off with two stomps.
Bram was hoping that they were safe right now, but he needed to quickly find them to let them know he was still alive. Gritting his teeth, he was feeling the biggest regret of his life. Even though they were the dearest to him, he had not spent much time with his family in the past. He had let them down by not being by their side when they were both safe and in danger. Once they reunited, he swore to never let it happen again. "Elena, Austin, Wait for me!"
