Earlier that evening…
It was shortly after midnight when Max carried Liz to the 31 floor of their apartment building.
Yes, he carried her. Princess style.
If Joshua saw this, his eyes which are craving for gossip would pop out, but Max took the elevator from the parking level straight up, so Joshua ended missing the show this time.
Liz slept off as soon as she entered his car, or more accurately, Max placed her in the car since she struggled (unsuccessfully) for few minutes to lift her leg just right in order to get in. Max would lose his patience after her third attempt, but he enjoyed the sound of her giggles, so he let it drag on for a while. Eventually, Max made Liz turn around and sit and lifted her legs to put them in front of her. By the time he buckled up her seatbelt, she was out. Completely. She even made small snoring sounds. He sighed and lowered the backrest. It is more comfortable, and it will prevent her from falling sideways during the ride.
Liz was nonresponsive when he parked in the underground parking of their apartment building. Well, he does not mind. She is light as a feather, and she leaned her head at the crook of his neck, and he was able to inhale her scent without any fear that she will mind. Because if she can mind anything it would probably be the fact that he is carrying her into his apartment.
Max knows that Liz will make a fuss about this in the morning, but he already has the perfect excuse: she was so wasted that she didn't wake up no matter what he tried and he does not have the passcode to her apartment… it's a perfect excuse.
The only thing he needs to be warry about is her kicking him out of the bed in the morning. He does not want to be kicked out of his own bed. And he has no intention to put Liz to sleep in any of the other bedrooms. That is not why he brought her here.
Max placed Liz on his bed and observed her for some time. She is perfect and her relaxed sleeping face is mesmerizing.
No matter how he thinks about this, he does not feel guilty at all. He will not touch her. Well, he will hug her, but nothing more than that. With any luck, she will mistake him for a bolster pillow like the last time and stick to him on her own. Ah, he looks forward to that.
Max realized that she is the first woman to sleep in his bed. She is the first woman in his bedroom, other than the cleaning ladies which don't count. Once a week they dust the room, vacuum, change bedsheets and they are out. And they do that when he is not home, so he does not even know how they look like.
Max does not bring women here. They don't want to leave, and they touch his things. He does not like when people touch his things. But he will not mind if Liz does not want to leave… and she can touch his things as much as she wants.
It was getting late, but he was not getting sleepy, so he thought that it's a good idea to shower. It will relax him, and he will smell better in the morning. Yup, women like that.
After the shower, Max thought about what he will wear. He usually sleeps in his underwear, but if Liz sees him like that in the morning, she will definitely NOT be comfortable. Max knows that he needs to go slow with Liz and not shock her suddenly. He does not own any pajamas other than reindeer-ones that his mother gifted him for Christmas. There is no way he is wearing that. If Liz sees him in that, she will laugh until next Christmas.
He decided on comfortable sweatpants and a t-shirt.
Max gave himself a visual check and a hum of an approval before getting back into the bedroom.
He froze and his heart stopped at the sight of Liz's back. She was standing next to the bed. Her body wiggled while she pulled the dress down.
The dim light from the side table made the scene in front of him sexy beyond belief.
"Damn sequins…" Liz mumbled when she kicked the dress on the side and reached with her hands to the back to undo hooks of her bra.
Based on Liz's behavior, Max concluded that she is half-asleep and probably still under the influence of alcohol. Why else would she undress in his bedroom? No matter in what state she is now, if he leaves her like that, in the morning she will not only kick him out of the bed, but out of her life as well.
He cursed internally while wondering, what is wrong with him?
The woman that he wants by his side is undressing in his bedroom and he is thinking how that is a bad thing?!
He saw Liz throw her bra to the side and she was turning around to face him.
Max panicked. It took him a split second to leap over the bed, remove his t-shirt and pull it over Liz's head.
"What?", she asked in confusion.
"Shhh… I'm here…", he said in a low voice.
"Max?", Liz asked drowsily.
"Mhm…", he made a sound of affirmation, happy to see that she relaxed and smiled while leaning on him.
He gently guided her to lay on the bed.
"Go back to sleep…", he said softly while pulling the cover up.
Max sat on the bed next to her and gave himself a thousand silent praises for this move. His swift action saved him from a certain calamity.
Max turned with an intention to go and get himself another t-shirt, but he felt Liz's hands wrap around him and she pulled him back on the bed.

His eyebrows shoot up when he felt her stick close to him. Ah, she thinks he is a bolster.
Max gave up on the idea to get another t-shirt. He shifted a bit, so that he gets under the cover and he smiled when he felt her leg move over his.
All this is great, better than great but… Why is his body reacting? Well, he knows why it's reacting. Liz is sticking close to him, and he can feel her breasts freely leaning on him, only the fabric of his t-shirt (on her) separating them, and she smells great, and he knows that other than his t-shirt and panties she has nothing else on and… this will be a long night.
He is confident that this is God testing him… or the Devil is torturing him… or maybe both of them are watching and laughing at his predicament and based on how tonight ends, it will be decided if his soul goes to Heaven or Hell.
