20 Glad You Returned Alive

When Yang Yun opened his eyes, it was already dark. His eyes swept across the room and stopped when he saw a familiar silhouette across him, leaning on the chair, watching intently.

His first thought was that he must be dreaming. He fell into a daze and shut his eyes. When he opened his eyes again, the person was still there, watching him. It looks like he wasn't dreaming.

"You're awake."

Yang Yun tried to sit up and groaned when his body ached all over. "Why are you here?" His voice was hoarse.

The young general stood up and poured a cup of water before he handed it to Yang Yun. "My sister wants to know when you wake up."

He leaned on the bed and accepted the cup from the General. He drank the water slowly as he tried to process what was happening to him.

He was on a rescue mission to save the Minister of Personal's son and a few other merchants. They almost succeed to sneak the captives out when one of the bandits noticed them.

A fight broke out between his team and the bandits. During this fight, to save one of his teammates, he slipped on the slippery ground and fell down the cliff. He didn't know what happened after.

Yang Yun looked up to the General again. "Mingyue is here?"

Xiao Xian answered him with a nod.

Yang Yun grimaced. He knew that Mingyue would be worried when she heard the news that he was injured. "How long have I been unconscious?"

"Two days." Xiao Xian took a seat on the chair again. He watched Yang Yun in silence as if assessing him. "I send you on a rescue mission, not to annihilate the bandits," he spoke.

"We have no choice," Yang Yun said. He unconsciously clenched his hand into a fist. "There were too many of them. If we didn't fight them, the captives might not be able to escape safely."

"Vice Fei Liu already explained everything to me," the young general said. "But I still think that what you and your team did in the mountain was reckless."

Yang Yun opened his mouth and bit his lips when no words came out.

He should have expected that the General's Vice would have reported everything to him. After all, Vice Fei Liu did tag along to monitor his team. He does admit that some of his decisions during the rescue mission were a bit reckless.

"I should congratulate you for rescuing the Minister's son. His Majesty was happy to hear that the mountain bandits won't be causing any misdeed for the time being."

Yang Yun stared at the man in front of him. Even though the General was congratulating him, it doesn't feel like he was happy.

Jiang Xiao Xian stood up and walked towards the bed. He lifted his hand and patted Yang Yun on his head. "I'm glad that you and everyone else returned alive."

Then, he turned around and exited the tent, leaving Yang Yun dumbfounded.

To have the General treating him kindly like this was too strange.
