A week later, Yang Yun invited Mingyue's family to come over for a meal. Because they wanted to surprise everyone about Mingyue's pregnancy, Yang Yun told everyone that they were celebrating Mingyue's safe return.
When Mingyue and Yang Yun returned to Da Cheng, everyone was busy with the preparation of the Imperial Wedding and the coronation. Since the Jiang brothers were not as busy as before the wedding, they quickly agreed to have together. Moreover, it has been a while since the family had gathered.
Of course, other than Han Zhenting, everyone else was clueless about the real reason Yang Yun and Mingyue invited the others for this meal.
It was the first time that the Yang's residence is holding a celebration after their daughter-in-law's disappearance. Therefore, the servants were busy running back and forth to prepare before the guests arrived.
The Jiang's family arrived and was ushered into the dining hall. Because it was a special day, Yang Yun had invited Yan Zifu to cook a few dishes. Then, his mother, Liu Qing Xin, and his sister, Yang An, prepared a few delicacies as well.
Because there was no one else other than family members, the male and female did not have their meal in separate ways.
As soon as the family gathered, the Jiang brothers sat together with their father to discuss the current politic in Da Cheng. It has been a few days after the coronation, and it seemed that a few tried to create trouble on the west side.
Since Jiang Xiao Tian had his men all over Da Cheng, naturally, he was the one with more news than the others. To suppress the trouble, both the Emperor and Empress had dispatched the soldiers to control the situation.
Jiang Xiao Xian had returned to the Capital City to serve both the Emperor and Empress. Therefore he was not part of the soldiers sent to disentangled the fight.
Among the brothers, Jiang Xiao Liang was the quietest one. He has been eyeing Yang Yun ever since he stepped into the Yang's residence. Looking at the way Yang Yun was treating his sister with doting and care, Jiang Xiao Liang breathed with relief. As everyone else was engaged in their conversation, Jiang Xiao Liang stood up suddenly.
The chattering in the room came to a halt, and everyone's gaze went to the third son of Jiang's family, wondering what he was up to.
Jiang Xiao Liang turned to Yang Yun and lifted the cup in his hand awkwardly. "Well, I never got my chance to thank you for bringing my sister back. Yang Yun, thank you."
Everyone had a smile on their faces as they listened to Jiang Xiao Liang's awkward speech. However, they all understood Jiang Xiao Liang and Yang Yun's relationship. Though they would always argue whenever they met, they cared for each other.
While everyone was not looking, Yang Yun raised his cup to Jiang Xiao Liang to thank him for his wakeup call when he was about to give up.
Jiang Xiao Liang rolled his eyes and emptied the drink in his cup silently.
Seeing that everyone had emptied their cup, Yang Yun took Mingyue's hand under the table. The couple exchanged a glance and stood up to fill everyone's cup with more wine.
Once everyone's cup was filled, Yang Yun held Mingyue's hand and raised the other hand to gain everyone's attention. "I have an announcement to make," Yang Yun said.
At his long, deliberate pause, everyone around the table started to get anxious.
Before Jiang Xiao Xian could voice his annoyance, Yang Yun had spoken again. "Mingyue is pregnant."
The room turned silent again. Everyone around the table stared at both Yang Yun and Mingyue with their eyes wide. Towards this unexpected announcement, Yang An was the first to react.
"Sister-in-law, you're pregnant?" Yang An looked at Mingyue with her bright eyes. "Then, does it mean that I'm going to be an aunt soon?"
Hearing the word 'aunt,' the Jiang brothers finally snapped out of their trance.
Jiang Xiao Tian congratulated the couple, while both Jiang Xiao Xian and Jiang Xiao Liang had a frown on their face. Only when their mother gave a slight nudge on their waist did the two brothers finally congratulated their sister.
"How long have you been pregnant," Liu Qing Xin asked.
"Around three months," Mingyue said shyly.
"And you waited until now to tell us this good news?" Liu Qing Xin frowned.
"Mother, don't be angry," Yang Yun tried to coax his mother. "We wanted to wait until Mingyue's pregnancy has stable before we announced this news. You know that we have come back from the other world. Because we had returned in a hurry, I was afraid that an accident might happen. That's why I wanted Mingyue to rest for a while before we announce this good news."
Liu Qing Xin heaved a long sigh as she looked at his son. "Your mother is not someone unreasonable." She turned to Mingyue and said, "If I knew earlier, I would have made you some nourishing soup."
"Sister, don't be angry with them," Mingyue's mother, Han Yunyi, spoke. She took Liu Qing Xin's hands and patted it slowly. "These young people, they have their mind on their own."
Liu Qing Xin smiled to respond. Then, she turned to look at the couple again. "Well, as long as you are healthy. Have you called the physician? What did they say?"
"Mother, have you forgotten that Mingyue is a physician herself?" Yang Yun asked.
"It's not the same. How can a physician diagnose herself?" Liu Qing Xin said. She turned to the servant and instructed her to call in a physician, but was stopped by Han Zhenting.
"Yang Yun's mother, you don't have to worry," Han Zhenting, who had been silence for a long time, finally spoke. "The mother and child are both healthy."
Hearing their grandfather's words, the Jiang brother's turned.
"Grandfather, you know about this?" Jiang Xiao Liang asked.
"Of course," Han Zhenting laughed. "I'm a physician. If I cannot detect this after listening to Mingyue's pulse, then maybe I no longer qualified to be a physician. Then, perhaps I should consider quitting my profession, don't you think?"
