"Why wouldn't you tell me?" James voice was lacee with pain.
"I handled it, I'm fine James." Catherine assured James.
"Yes, you handled it by shooting a man who admittedly deserved it in the head but it didn't heal you or quench your anger. It messed you up and I may not have been around when it happened but I'm here now so talk to me." James pulled Katie into his arms expecting Catherine to fight but feeling her relax against him, he let out a breath he didn't even know he was holding.
They sat in silence for a while, James wasn't pushing her to talk he just wanted he to relax and lean on him.
"I was attacked by some goons who normally wouldn't stand a chance but I was pregnant and I wasn't thinking about where I was I had baby on the brain." Catherine laughed at her feeble attempt to lighten the mood.
"Anyway the last thing I remember was blood everywhere, then I woke up in my room two days later with Samuel by my side."
"Was Samuel the father?" James asked an admittedly stupid question but he wanted to be sure.
"Yes. That's all that happened, now I'm going to bed. Thanks for feeding me, I'll be back to work tomorrow." Catherine left the room leaving James alone.
Not wanting to push Catherine past her limit, James left her house. She had already shared so much with him and he didn't want to upset her.
James drove home and he was glad to see Katie on the sofa reading a file probably work related.
Katie hadn't noticed James come in and he wasn't ready to make himself noticed. He stood staring at the woman he planned to spend the rest of his life with.
As James stood looking at Katie he couldn't help imagine Katie pregnant with his child and how he would never let her out of his sight.
'how could Samuel just leave unprotected.' James thought, the sudden anger towards Samuel was new and out of nowhere. But he just couldn't help think that the least Samuel could do for Catherine who was at that time carrying their child was to protect her.
"Hey? When did you get in?" Katie finally noticed the man looking at her except at this time he was looking at her but not at her.
"You look weird, what's wrong?"Katie said moving to James.
"I'm fine, just hungry. Do you want to go out?" James attempt to shift the conversation was weak but it worked.
"Oh, I was actually craving pizza and sugar feild drinks so I picked some up on my way back. You up for some?" Katie asked leading James to the kitchen were pizza and drinks enough time feel a village layed.

"I eat a lot of food Katie, but not this much. Why did you get so much?" James asked baffled his anger towards Samuel pushed away for now.
"Actually it's not just us, I invited my brother. I want you guys to get to know each other."
"Samuel is coming over?" James asked, his previous anger resurfacing.
"Yes, I want you to meet my parents but first Samuel. His a lot harder to win over." Katie said not at all sensing the rage radiating off of James. "But don't worry Catherine will be over as well. So go freshen up."
James stalked away, trying his best to calm down because he needed to be on his best behavior for Katie.
