Ye Wei had requested he stay in the car and await orders. After all, this battle was the duty of the law enforcers.
However, after deliberating for a moment, Wu Peng decided to sneakily follow behind them.
He didn’t take out his AK-47 when he came out, and he had given his handgun to a law enforcer.
He wouldn’t be able to flaunt his strength this time.
Wu Peng grabbed his dagger with a reverse grip and followed the group while looking around him for any movements.
“There are several points the enemies can ambush us from in this abandoned building. Be careful, everyone!”
Ye Wei’s reminder crackled from the law enforcers’ communication devices.
The law enforcers slowly crept into the abandoned building and arrived at a giant room after walking past a narrow tunnel.
“This could have been the main hall of a shopping mall in the past. Be careful to observe if there’s anyone in the higher areas of the hall.”
Ye Wei continued to issue orders through the communication device.
Wu Peng slowly leaned his back against the wall and continued inching forward.
In such a vast area, one should always walk forward under cover if cover was available, as it would greatly reduce the probability of being spotted and shot at.
Just as the law enforcers were about to pass through the main hall, gunshots were heard from above their heads.
Two law enforcers fell on the ground following the gunshot.
Ye Wei immediately rolled to the front and leaned against the wall. The entire tactical movement took less than a second for her to complete.
“All of you, lean against the wall and take cover! Immediately find the point of ambush and start retaliating!”
Unfortunately, Ye Wei’s orders were engulfed by the sea of gunfire.
This time, even though all of the law enforcers who’d come were elites, they couldn’t help but become flustered from being ambushed by the enemy.
They shot their guns indiscriminately above their heads, regardless of if they’d seen their enemies’ position or not.
However, not only was this useless, but it helped the enemies conceal their position, preventing their allies from determining where the attacks were coming from.
Wu Peng, watching from the side, knitted his brows. These people lacked combat experience.
However, he couldn’t blame them completely for that. Law enforcers were here to maintain order and usually only interacted with the residents on an average day.
This was probably their first time fighting a terrifying and mysterious organization like Viper head-on.
“Darn it. I was careless not to bring my gun with me this time!”
Wu Peng glanced at the dagger in his hand, and then at the law enforcers who were flustered from being ambushed, and could only sigh.
Ye Wei saw that her subordinates had become disoriented after suddenly getting ambushed and shouted constantly into her communication device for the law enforcers to get out of the main hall.
A few of the law enforcers finally came to their senses after being momentarily flustered and followed Ye Wei as she charged out the main hall.
Wu Peng leaned against the wall and hurriedly jogged to follow them. He passed by a law enforcer who had fallen on the ground along the way and saw that he was still struggling, so he helped him to get up, and they charged out of the main hall together.
They arrived at a long corridor after making it through the door of the main hall.
The enemy’s gunshots immediately stopped after the law enforcers entered the corridor. They sure had great executive abilities.
“Daliu, head in front of the corridor and scout the path. Xiaolin, keep an eye on the entrance of the corridor! I’ll do a headcount!”
Ye Wei was still rather calm and continued to do the duties required of her as a leader.
After a headcount, she determined that three law enforcers had been sacrificed in the main hall, and two law enforcers were heavily injured. If it hadn’t been for Wu Peng’s timely help, that law enforcer might’ve died in the hall along with the others.
“Didn’t I ask you to wait for orders in the car? Why don’t you listen to my orders? Forget it. From now on, closely follow my lead.”
Ye Wei glanced at Wu Peng and saw that he had managed to save one of the law enforcers without getting injured despite not having any weapons with him. So, she didn’t say anything more to him about it.
This time, the law enforcer that Wu Peng had saved said weakly, “Captain, I don’t think I can make it. Let him use my weapon.”
Ye Wei deliberated for a moment, then gently nodded.
Wu Peng didn’t hold back. He immediately took off all of the law enforcer’s weapons.
The law enforcers’ rifles had a sleek design, and Wu Peng had long wanted to play with one of them.
He fiddled around with the rifle and gained a general understanding of how to use it. However, the trigger was locked.
“Every rifle of the law enforcement unit is tied to its enforcer’s personal identification information. It can’t be used unless you have that enforcer’s specially-made identification plaque.”
Ye Wei took off the law enforcer’s identification plaque and placed it against the rifle, and the locked trigger was immediately released.
By this time, Daliu, who had gone ahead to scout the path, returned and reported that there was an elevator that led to upstairs and that he hadn’t come across any enemies in ambush.
“Two of you stay behind to tend to the wounded. The rest of you, follow me upstairs! Kill any enemies you see on sight!”
Ye Wei was really angry now and no longer cared about capturing the enemy alive.
Wu Peng ran from the back of the group to the front and stood alongside Ye Wei.
“Head to the middle of the group. I won’t have the time to protect you when we’re fighting later!”
“Don’t worry. I’ll immediately head to the back and hide if something isn’t right.”
Wu Peng’s tone was still relaxed.
When they arrived at the escalator, Ye Wei was just about to charge upstairs when Wu Peng suddenly appeared in front of her. He quickly poked his head out and glanced upstairs.
He waited for a moment, then confirmed that there were no movements. He took out a stun grenade from around his waist, then pulled off the pin and threw it upstairs after waiting for two seconds.
“Ah!”
A pitiful cry came from upstairs. The stun grenade could completely ruin a person’s vision and hearing. The pain was intolerable.
Wu Peng immediately charged upstairs. He reached the second floor in just a few steps and saw a member of Viper rolling on the ground.
He had wanted to directly take his life. However, thinking that he should leave a member of the group alive, he put down his rifle instead.
Wu Peng arrived in front of the member of Viper and quickly pulled him up, then curled his arms around his neck.
After struggling for a moment, the member of Viper became unconscious.
Wu Peng did all of this in one fluid motion, and when Ye Wei and the rest of the law enforcers charged upstairs, they saw that the member of Viper was already unconscious on the ground.
“You sure are impressive. I’m in awe!”
Daliu gave Wu Peng a hard pat on the shoulder.
The rest of the law enforcers nodded.
There was a complicated look on Ye Wei’s face. The more impressive Wu Peng seemed, the more curious about him she became.
“According to the previous set of information, eight people in the team Viper were sent up. One of them has died, and another is now unconscious, which means there are six enemies left. I suggest we split into three-man groups and engage in guerilla warfare with them. Going out in a group would make it easier for the enemy to exterminate us if we got ambushed.”
Wu Peng looked at Ye Wei after voicing this suggestion. After all, she was the leader of the team.
Ye Wei gave a simple reply. “Execute it.”
There were nine people in the group left who were still able to fight. They split into three groups and began exploring the second floor.
Wu Peng was naturally grouped with Ye Wei. This was the time for him to show his masculine charm.
He charged to the very front and quickly checked out a few rooms but didn’t spot any members of Viper.
Suddenly, a string of gunfire came from the communication device. One of their teams had engaged in battle with Viper.
“Go quickly and reinforce them!”
Ye Wei immediately wanted to reinforce her teammates, but Wu Peng instantly stopped her. “If this is a trap, we’ll all die if we head over.”
Then, he started closely surveying his surroundings to determine where the gunshots they’d heard had come from. “I’ve spotted two rooms that might potentially be ambush spots. There are definitely people there. Follow me!”
Wu Peng crouched down and quickly shuffled toward one of the ambush spots.
