Chapter 77:Friends

Sheloah was looking at Shannara, who was just standing beside her. They were under a big oak tree near the cemetery. There were no zombies around them, so they stayed outside for a while.

"Umm, Sheloah, right?" Shannara broke off the silence as she took Sheloah's attention.

"Yeah, what is it," she answered and asked and both of their eyes met.

"Just a question… how did you end up here?"

This hit Sheloah hard; like a stick had hit her aggressively on the back, making her wake up with the reality that she almost died because of her selfish decision.

"Recklessness," Sheloah just said and Shannara nodded at her slowly, not extracting for more information.

Sheloah felt a little weird as she was having a conversation with Shannara. She couldn't help but think that she and her are the same. She wondered why she thought and felt so.

"I kinda relate to you, y'know… when you said you came here because of recklessness." This made Sheloah raise her brow at her, as if she had read her thoughts when she thought of being similar to her.

"Oh? How so," Sheloah asked and Shannara shrugged both of her shoulders.

"I kinda came here, too, with the same reason," she answered and she held Sheloah's hand. "I think… it's all because of love!" Her eyes shone like stars when she said this and it made Sheloah's eyes widen in surprise.

Sheloah was about to speak when suddenly, both of their stomachs made a sound at the same time, which made them laugh. The both of them realized that they were actually hungry!

"Do you wanna go to my house? I have food there," Shannara said, inviting Sheloah to her house and Sheloah nodded excitedly.

"Sure!"

She didn't know why… but she felt extremely comfortable with Shannara. She also felt that she could trust her completely. Shannara never gave off a suspicious vibe to Sheloah that was why she was willing to talk and go anywhere with her at this point.

Both of them started walking, Shannara leading the way.

"Our house is just near this cemetery. But because of the zombie apocalypse, I only have the opportunity to go home now. The idea of going home alone scared me, so now that you're here, going together would be better," Shannara said and Sheloah nodded.

"But why do you still choose to stay in the cemetery? Isn't it scarier to stay there, compared to when you're in your comfort zone, your house," Sheloah asked and Shannara giggled slightly.

"That's the irony. I mean… I should find comfort within the vicinity of our house but because of my hate towards my father, it's not that comfortable, y'know?"

Sheloah stopped in her tracks when she heard this, but Shannara spoke further and what she had said, made Sheloah's heart ache because she could relate to it.

"I hate my dad, that's why."

When Shannara noticed that Sheloah stopped walking, she looked back to look at her.

"Sheloah?"

When she had said her name, Sheloah smiled and walked towards Shannara.

"Sorry, it's nothing," she said and Shannara just tilted her head, curious. She just brushed it off as the two of them walked inside the house after Shannara opened its door carefully.

Both of them were cautious the moment they stepped inside. They closed the door as they started assessing the place. After a few minutes, the both of them sighed in relief when they confirmed that there were no zombies that had infiltrated the house.

The two girls walked towards the kitchen to look for some food inside the refrigerator, but found nothing. Shannara then walked to some cupboards, opened it one by one, until they saw a can of tuna.

Shannara looked at her unexpected visitor. "Sorry. This is all I have," she said and Sheloah just shook her head, and smiled at Shannara appreciatively.

"I bet your dad is dead right now since there are no people inside your house," Sheloah said and it had taken Shannara aback.

"You say it so comfortably, but yes," Shannara reacted and Sheloah showed a bitter smile.

"We both hate our dads that's why."

When Sheloah said this Shannara nodded slowly, understanding now as to why Sheloah had stopped in her tracks a while ago. The both of them knew that there are some things that they have in common.

Shannara smiled at Sheloah as she extended her hand towards her again. "Friends?"

Sheloah chuckled slightly as she held her hand. The both of them shook their hands again, as if they just met each other.

"Friends."
