Chapter 128:I Thought You Love Me

Veon sighed heavily. He couldn't feel at ease knowing that they are resting and that Sheloah was still not with them. He wanted to see her sooner,

He looked at Shannara beside her. She was tying her hair in a pony tail as she hummed herself a song. Veon felt that she changed… like she became stronger.

Shannara noticed that Veon was looking at her so she looked at the boy then smiled a little, feeling awkward. "What's wrong?"

Veon avoided her gaze. "Nothing," he answered then Shannara had just finished tying up her hair.

"Really? What are you staring at me for," she asked and Veon looked at her seriously.

"Are you okay," he asked and Shannara raised a brow at him and laughed slightly, curious as to why he asked him that.

"Yes, I am. You think I'm not," she said as she scoffed and Veon slightly smiled at her, feeling awkward to have asked such a question.

"I just don't understand," he said and Shannara continued looking at the boy beside her. "When you confessed to me, you were sad afterwards," he added and Shannara frowned at him. She did not expect him to open up this topic.

"Why don't you understand? What do you mean," Shannara asked and suddenly, the aura of their conversation changed into something heavy.

"Nothing," Veon answered directly. He could not explain to her what he really meant so it made Shannara feel annoyed.

He found it difficult to be honest with his thoughts.

"Well…" Veon trailed off but he continued speaking. "I just don't understand your mood. You were sad then suddenly, you act as if nothing happened. You look so happy."

When Shannara heard this, she rolled her eyes at him in annoyance.

"What do you want? Show people that I'm depressed and that I'm stupid, is that it," she said and now Veon wished that he should have not said anything.

"I'm not saying that I want you to look or be sad all the time… it's just that you act like as if nothing happened," Veon tried to explain and Shannara just sighed, not understanding what he really meant and wanted.

"It's better to ignore things. It's better to forget what happened in order for the atmosphere of our friendship to not change," Shannara explained and Veon looked at her as she spoke. "If you really see me as a friend, then it's okay. Just forget what we have talked about before," she added and Shannara smiled sincerely as she bumped Veon's shoulder.

"I thought you love me," he said and this dampened the mood between them once more. "I'm not saying that you don't love me but why did you decide to act as if nothing happened," he added and Shannara's hands turned into fists. "Why did you—"

Shannara did not let him finish. Before Veon knew it, her palm landed hard on his right cheek, making his face red. The angry girl stood up and walked off after saying her last sentence to Veon.

"You're acting like an insensitive, clueless asshole."
