Chapter 135:I Don't Understand

Kreiss made a challenge on getting the gem first. The gem that Kreiss was specifically looking for was the family gem of their clan. He didn't know where the gem is specifically located, other than it being in a shed.

His uncle was the one who told him where the gem was. He also said that the gem was no longer important. The only question Kreiss has about the gem is why it was left behind. It was their family gem, so why was it hidden away? Why didn't it get passed on to him and why couldn't his uncle state the reason why it was left behind? Does it really have no use?

These questions were the reason why Kreiss decided to look for the gem. He's been wanting to take a look on the gem and now, he took the risk to look for it, involving Veon. He did not want to risk his life alone. He hoped that once he saw the gem, he will know why it was left behind.

Kreiss was walking cautiously when suddenly, he sensed someone's presence. He took a look at his back and saw a zombie walking towards him. He took his gun and he accurately shot the zombie on the head. When the new head appeared, he quickly took his katana and slashed the zombie's head, making blood splash on his clothes and on the ground.

"I knew it… there are zombies around," he mumbled to himself as he grunted in disgust.

He wondered how Veon was doing on the other side. He did plan on using Veon for a part of his plan, but he also wanted to see if he really has feelings towards Sheloah.

Kreiss continued walking and as he observed his surroundings, he noticed that there were a lot of dried up blood on the floor, and bones scattered on the ground. He examined the place again when he noticed that as he went deeper into the forest, piles of bones would increase in number.

'What's wrong with this place?'

As he was searching the place, he saw some pictures on the ground. There are two sheds in their current location. It served as storage areas before they relocated their home. This was their first house before they got rich and changed houses. And now that there is a zombie apocalypse, he didn't know that zombies had already entered their previous home.

He noticed that the pictures he saw were family pictures. It was a picture that showed his great, great, great, great, grandmother, down to the current. As he looked at the photo, he noticed something that piqued his curiosity.

In every family picture of each generation, there was a certain gem that was worn by each woman of the family. The gem looked like a diamond, but it was shaped like a square. It didn't have any color in the photo because the photos were old. When Kreiss stumbled upon a recent picture from three years ago, it showed that the gem was actually violet in color.

His great, great, great, great grandmother wore the gem as her necklace. She was the wife of his great, great, great, great grandfather. Next, his great, great, great grandmother wore the gem as a hair dress. She looked like a sophisticated senorita from Spain.

Kreiss browsed other photos as well and he noticed that his great, great grandmother wore the gem as her bracelet. Then, it was passed down to his great grandmother and wore it as a necklace. Even Kreiss' grandmother wore it as a necklace.

He noticed that they all shared one thing in common. They were wearing that gem but Kreiss wondered why his uncle's wife, and his mother, didn't even wear the gem. He tried to recall past memories of them and remembered that he never saw the two of them wearing the gem.

'Why?'

His aunt didn't wear the gem. Why was that? He noticed that every time there was a new female family member, they would pass on the gem. But why didn't his aunt have it?

He looked at the photo and saw that near his uncle was his sister, Kreiss' mom. The gem was not with her as well. Kreiss' aunt died in a car accident. Kreiss was not close with his dad and he knew that his dad didn't make it on the first day of the apocalypse.

'Why didn't my mother not inherit the gem? Was it because she was a girl and the boys should be the legal ones to get it and give it to their wives?'

Kreiss got it already. The gem was given by the eldest man of the family and they give it to their son. His uncle was the first born and the second was Kreiss' mom. The gem was given to his uncle, but since his wife died, the gem was not given to her.

Kreiss' family name is Estheim. Calling him by his full name, he would be Kreiss A. Estheim. His father was an American that's why the gem wasn't passed down to him. His father was not a descendant of the Alzate family.

Only the carriers of the Alzate name could get the emblem. Basing on the pictures, Kreiss understood that he did not get the gem because he's not a carrier of the Alzate name. His cousin did not inherit the gem either because she is a woman and the only child of his uncle. The Alzate name stopped when his uncle gave birth to a girl.

Kreiss furrowed his eyebrows, not understanding why his mom and uncle, not say a word to him about this.

Why won't his mom tell him? Why won't his uncle tell him?

Kreiss sighed.

'I don't understand…'
