Chapter 137:More Fight, Less Talk

Veon kept shooting the zombies once their new heads appeared but every time he looked back, there would be another zombie going to his direction.

He wondered if this was the kidnapper's attention: to get advantage of the situation. Did he really want to get Sheloah?

He was shooting a lot of zombies but he started limiting his shots since he may run out of bullets. He didn't want to waste his extra bullets because an emergency may come up.

Veon sighed exasperatedly and decided to run away. No matter what he does, the population of the zombies would just double its number. He knew, however, that he can't run forever. But he also knew that he didn't have a choice. If he would stop now, he would die and he won't be able to rescue Sheloah. He didn't want that to happen.

Ever.

Veon started feeling tired so he quickly hid behind a big tree and sat down to rest. After a few minutes, some zombies noticed him so he got a long, sharp stick and decided to attack them with it.

He felt a bit hopeless, but he didn't want to give in to the thought of giving up. His goal of going to Australia with his friends drove him to strive harder. Veon knew it was a difficult wish, but it kept him going.

The zombies were already cornering Veon and he started to panic. Suddenly, however, he saw Kreiss killing the zombies one by one with his katana. Once he cleared Veon's path, he ran towards him and protected him from the other remaining zombies.

"Do you need a gun? Some bullets," he asked and Veon was dumbfounded to have heard these kinds of questions from a kidnapper.

"How did you—" Kreiss did not let him finish.

"More fight, less talk. I'll explain later," Kreiss just said and he handed over his gun to Veon. He was hesitant at first, but he took it anyway. He started killing zombies, aiding Kreiss.

While they were killing zombies, Veon realized that the kidnapper was no ordinary person. He was skilled in handling the katana. He was faster than Sheloah. He knew that the kidnapper was at par with Geof since Geof was the one who taught Sheloah on how to use the katana. But Veon also thought that maybe Kreiss is even better than Geof.

Kreiss was swift. As he attacked, he started moving on to his next target with ease. It's as if he danced with the blade! This made Veon thought that Kreiss had learned about using the katana for a very long time.

When they had already cleared the area, the boys sat down on the ground, catching their breaths. They were so tired as they leaned their backs on the tree's trunk. The two looked at each other and felt a weird connection. The two of them laughed as if they knew each other for a very long time.

'Why?'

"I didn't expect you to be skilled," Kreiss said and Veon looked at him.

"Likewise," Veon complimented and they both grinned at each other.

After a few moments, Kreiss extended his hand, taking Veon's attention. "I'm Kreiss. Kreiss Estheim."

Veon nodded and realized that they never had a proper introduction.

Why would they, anyway? He kidnapped Sheloah, right?

But in the end, they helped each other.

"Veon," the boy introduced himself as he took Kreiss' hand and shook it as a proper introduction.

Kreiss smirked. "I know who you are," he said and Veon wondered as to how he knew him. He never recalled meeting Kreiss before.

"Why did you come here," Veon asked and Kreiss knew what he meant.

Why did he save him?

This question made Kreiss chuckle.

"Having you killed was not part of the plan," Kreiss answered truthfully and it made Veon nod his head slowly, not actually understanding what his intentions are.

"So you plan to use me?" When Veon said this, Kreiss nodded once and explained.

"You may say that… I actually want to get my hands on something." Veon tilted his head, curious.

"The gem," he asked and Kreiss nodded. "What's with the gem? Why is it important," he added and Kreiss sighed as he shook his head.

"None of your business. I just need it," Kreiss answered and Veon raised his brow at him.

"Why is Sheloah involved in this, then," Veon asked and Kreiss scoffed before he answered.

"Let's just go look for the gem. I'll explain later."

He stood up, and Veon stood as well, not satisfied with his answers.

"We're in this together now?" Veon was in disbelief with such turn of events. Kreiss nodded then he shrugged his shoulders.

"I guess we have to work together to get this gem. Besides… we're both in a dire situation. We almost died back there," Kress explained and Veon hated to admit it, but he was right.

"Then it leaves us with no choice," Veon said and Kreiss grinned. They both started walking when Veon shot another question. "So that breaks off our deal, right? I still get to have Sheloah, regardless," he said and Kreiss looked at him.

"You have to do my request then," Kreiss proposed and Veon started to feel annoyed.

"What now? What if I don't comply with your request," Veon asked as they continued walking hitherward.

"Even if you don't do it, I get what I want," Kreiss answered confidently and it made Veon scoff.

He somewhat knew that he had no choice but to comply with what Kreiss wanted. Who knows what he's capable of.

"Later," Kreiss answered briefly and Veon just sighed, defeated. No information's going to be extracted from him. Veon may just have to go with the flow.

The both of them stopped talking as they continued looking for the shed where the gem is located. Veon wished that they'd find it sooner so that they'd end this shenanigan. He was really desperate to look for Sheloah. He's been worried sick, that he's even "DYING" to see her. All he could do now is to go with the flow with Kreiss' dilly-dallying.

'I hope to end soon…'
