193 Milon’s Victory, Exposing the Enemy’s Lair

Name:Ascenders Rift Author:ShadowsFinger
A scorching blaze cluttered the sky above the Hall of Governance as shocking sounds echoed now and then from its summits. Occasionally, one would see chunks of fire scattering, but as if they were hindered by something they would soon after vanished after doing a short amount of damage.

Suddenly, a cluster of flames blasted from the summits towards all angles, causing the top floor to show signs of collapsing. The crowd watching this scurried in a panic as a few capable Evolvers acted to destroy the raining debris, protecting those who were much weaker.

If one looked within the battle scene, they would notice that Milon had one of his arms placed forward, his face having a slightly pale look as burning lances floated around his body.

Before him, was the High Elder whose eyes glowed in an evil ray, he stood within the sea of fire unphased as if a vacuum had formed around his entire being, canceling all of the fire within his range.

"Kuku! City Head Milon, what now? I see that your abilities are incapable of taking effect in my field of influence... should I end your suffering," The High Elder said with a look of leisure on his face as he stared at Milon.

"Ha... Haa... I... I won't lose to the likes of your kind!" Milon said after panting and catching his breath, his eyes had a determined look as he raised his arms towards his sides and began to conjure more flaming lances.

He had amassed a dozen lances in moments, each of which was roughly three meters long with the thickness of a person's arm.

"Die!" Milon yelled as he pointed his finger forward. The lances then bolted towards the High Elder, leaving behind a dozen rays of flaming lights as the temperature around him rose significantly.

"Hmph! It is meaningless, Counter Vacuum!" The High Elder said his shone with dark lights, he raised one arm and spread his fingers wide as his palm faced Milon's direction.

Moments after, a black sphere expanded from his arm, scattering for an even further distance; it took only a few seconds to reach Milon's position. During this process, the flaming lances began to flicker, as seven of them faded into nothingness as if they couldn't maintain themselves.

The High Elder sneered at this scene, his eyes had a victorious look when he spoke, "Kukuku! You're even weaker than I'd imagine... truly a disgrace to your standing. Since you are so weak, then I hope you don't mind if I send you on your way."

Following his words, the lights around his grew richer as the vacuum became even more complete. In an instant, two more of the flaming lances faded, leaving only four that flickered as if they could go out at any moment.

At this point, Milon seemed even to have trouble breathing, as he grasped his throat with one arm and fell to his knees while choking.

The High Elder laughed at this sight, but it was unknown when, but his senses began to tingle as he felt a trace of danger. He thought to himself, 'Odd, why do I feel a threat? I have already suppressed both his abilities and his means of livelihood...'

While the High Elder pondered, Milon who seemed to be dying made a sly smirk, he lifted his eyes and gazed at him with flames in his eyes.

When the High Elder saw this, he felt alarmed, especially after he smelled a strange scent in the air, "Hmm, what's this scent? How could it...?"

Before the High Elder could even figure out what happened, the four flaming lances had suddenly arrived in front of him and pierced into his unguarded body.

They bore through his flesh, lighting him ablaze as a strange scent grew even more abundant, this scent caused the flames to spread even more rapidly as his entire body became engulfed in flames.

"Ahhhhhh! How? How can your flames still linger in a vacuum?" The High Elder cursed out in pain; he struggled to keep standing while using his arms to grasp the flaming lances. Yet, it was a pity, for the fires were simply too strong, his arm began to turn to ash.

In this state of constant pain and certain demise, the black lights around his arm had vanished as his technique had faded into nothingness.

Milon, who now found it easier to breathe, sat himself up from the ground. He took a deep breath and sneered at the High Elder as he spoke, "Sure, I might be lacking in power for my standing, but if there's one thing that won't fail me, it's the power of science b**tch..."

When Milon said this, his eyes shifted towards his flaming lances burning the High Elder's body into cinders.

"Aahhhh! You bastaaard!" The savage and mournful cry of the High Elder sounded as his body then turned into ashes that blew across the nigh winds.

Not long after, the flaming lances fell onto the floor, seeming to still be in effect. Milon smirked as he snapped his finger, causing the flames to disappear as now only an extremely thing rod was visible. If one zoomed in on this rod, they would see small openings emitting a gas-like substance into the air.

Milon chuckled and picked it up before putting it away into a particular storage container, which used a kind of portable space technology.

"Whew! He was a hard one; it's no wonder he called himself High Elder, I suppose his strength should be at the level of their leaders. Hmm, Vernisa isn't the best of us in close combat, she might find it difficult to beat those monsters, especially if another appears, I should go and..." Milon was about to say something, but right at this time, he looked to the side in shock.

There, Evan had unknowingly appeared at his side, sizing up the situation with a calm expression.

"You... how long have you been there?" Milon asked in surprise.

Evan chuckled and replied, "Let's just say it's been a while, you fought well, I was planning to help, but you earned that victory."

Milon shook his head and spoke, "I was lucky; he was too foolish and arrogant to inspect the secrets of my flaming lances."

Evan shook his head and replied, "Well, luck is also a part of strength, and what matters in combat is victory at the very the end."

Milon looked at Evan in surprise, he didn't know why, but as he saw the deep look in his eyes he had a strange thought, 'This boy... he doesn't look much older than Leo, yet he's speaking as if he's some man well in his years.'

Evan pretended not to see his strange look as he spoke about a different issue, "There are two things I'd like to tell you: you do not need to worry about Vernisa and Leo's party, my friends have gone to aid them. As for the second..."

When Evan spoke, he paused here, causing Milon to look at him with a somewhat curious look as he spoke again, "I believe we might have found either a lair or the main hideout for these Body Shifters."

"What?" Milon exclaimed in alarm, not believing those words.

Yet, soon Evan's mouth curved into a smile as an image projected from his watch, showing a holographic screen. On this screen, it showed recordings of a remote location in the woods and displays of a hidden hallway.

Milon's eyes grew sharp when he saw this; both he and Evan looked into each other's eyes as if they could read each other's thoughts without saying many words. The scene here seems as if it was about to enter a brand-new act, but little did they know, that somewhere outside within the distant wilds, another change occurred.
