Meanwhile, on the other side of the town, Kai Xin was happily entering AVENGE with a big box of presents after she replied DX.
She entered into her room on the ground floor and pulled the level. When the hidden slope appeared, it was covered with decorative balloons.
She smiled when she thought about how Ghost would like the presents that she prepared for him.
When she was almost on the upper floor, she saw Phantom and she tried to call out, "Phan-"
Phantom turned over and shook his head. With a finger on his lips, he signaled her to be quiet.
Curious, Kai Xin went all the way up to take a look.
She saw Ghost sitting on the couch while staring at the TV. His bright red haired matched the red velvet cake that Phantom made for him.
A woman voiced was heard.
"Xiao Ying..."
Kai Xin turned to the TV screen.
A young boy who was seen crouching and poking on the ground turned when he heard the voice.
He smiled brightly when he saw who it was that called out for him.
"Mama! Uncle Yuan!"
He quickly brushed off the dirt on his pants before running towards his mother and hugged her.
"Xiao Ying, Uncle Yuan bought a new camera and he said he can take videos of us today."
The boy looked up into the lens of the camera and smiled. With his curious eyes, he asked, "Can it take good photos as well?"
A man's voice can be heard laughing from behind the camera. The man replied, "Sure thing. Xiao Ying, go clean up. We will blow the birthday cake soon."
"Uhm!" said the boy happily before he rushed back into the house.
Kai Xin realized then that the boy with the thick black hair was Ghost and they were watching a birthday video.
Phantom whispered, "The man in the video was one of his neighbors back when he was still living with his mother. The man went missing many years ago while out on a fishing expedition and last year, he was declared dead by the court. When I went to visit on behalf of Ghost, his family gave me the tape..."
Glancing at the back of Ghost's head, he continued, "...I figure this would be something that he wanted."
Kai Xin looked at Phantom for a while before turning back to the TV.
They watched as Young Ghost sat down at the table with enthusiasm written all over his face.
When Young Ghost saw his mother walking towards him with the cake and the ten lighted candles, he lit up.
"Happy birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to Xiao Ying
Happy Birthday to you."
Kai Xin watched Ghost as he sang along to the song while watching the homemade video.
His tone was sadder than the ones that his mother was singing to his young self.
"Make your wish, Xiao Ying..."
Young Ghost looked up at his mother while he thought about his wish. After a while, he closed his eyes and clasped his hands together. In a low voice, he wished, "I wish Mama and Uncle Yuan would forever be with Xiao Ying."
Kai Xin saw a sad look passed by his mother's face. If this was his 10th birthday, then it was also the day before he was sent away by his mother.
The Young Ghost who was happily cutting into his cake was oblivious of what was to come nor did he knew that it would be the last time he gets to celebrate his birthday with his mother.
In a choked up voice, Ghost mumbled, "Mama, I should have never told you about my wish...Maybe then, it would come true."
Turning off the TV, he stood up and was startled when he saw Kai Xin and Phantom looking at him. He covered his bloodshot eyes and turned around to hide it from his friends.
After a while, he cleared his throat and returned back to his idiotic self as he demanded haughtily, "I expect some great birthday gifts!"
Phantom scoffed as he wheeled to the table, "I took a day off to prepare a bloody birthday cake from scratch for you. That is all you would be getting from me."
Ghost went over to look at the cake. He frowned and glared at Phantom, "This says 'Happy Birthday, Idiot!' "
Phantom glanced at the cake and nodded, "Yup, that's correct."
Running to Kai Xin, Ghost complained as he pointed at Phantom who was pouring the drinks for them, "Daisy! Look at how mean Phantom was!"
She wanted to ask him if he was alright, but when she saw the look the Phantom gave her, she decided not to press it.
She gave him a grin and said, "Well, obviously I brought you the best presents EVER!"
