"I..." Jean stammered with a sniff, looking at Zed with a concerned look on her face. "Do you still remember when Kirk asked me to accompany Elizabeth for the week?" she asked.
Zed frowned as he heard what Jean said. Suddenly, he loosened her hand and stood up from the bed.
"Where are you going?" she said, reaching for his arm.
"I'm going to tell Kirk that you can't keep your promise anymore and that he should find someone else,"
Zed answered matter-of-factly.
"Don't do that. What if Kirk already told Elizabeth that I would be accompanying her during her stay here? And when she finds out that I've backed out, she would be too thrilled. She'll think I'm a coward..." Jean said meekly with a sigh.
"I don't care what she thinks about you. What I care about is you. And I think the best thing to do is to keep you away from her," said Zed sternly.
"Zed," Jean smiled wryly at what he said. "Do you really think everything will be fine if we stay away from her? You're underestimating that woman. I think the best way to deal with Elizabeth is to keep a close eye on her in case she does something out of bounds."
"But..." Jean's reasoning didn't make sense to Zed. He shook his head in response.
"Please. I told you that because I don't want you to worry about me." Jean pressed, "I will not allow anyone to steal my husband away from me. I don't care who she is. No means no."
Seeing her uneasy and serious expression made Zed laugh out loud. Raising his hand, he lightly flicked Jean's nose. "You're pregnant, honey. What if she hurts you?" he asked.
"Then tell Toby to follow me around all the time and protect me," Jean replied. "Ask Toby to stick with me. I don't think she is bold enough to hurt me under the watchful eyes of other people."
Zed nodded with smile.
It seemed that Jean had everything figured out, and was ready to face Elizabeth head on.
"Fine, but you have to promise me you will be careful," Zed exhorted, staring at her with worry.
"I don't want her to cause any damage to our relationship and our general well-being. More importantly, you have a lot on your plate already. That's why I want to stop whatever it is she's planning. Plus, I'm getting really bored now to be honest. Playing with Elizabeth would be a good way to kill some time,"
Jean said happily.
Upon hearing this, Zed was touched. He was aware that Jean truly cared for him a lot, but
It all starts on that fateful night.
When Ella, who is the dear sister of Samuel’s best buddy, sneaks into the hotel where the drunken Samuel resides and gets pregnant…
"I don’t want a divorce!"
"I don’t want a divorce!"
"I did no such thing!"
Ella jumped on the bed and cried out. “I don’t want a scheming woman as my wife. Just sign the paper...
asantly, passing a glass of wine to Zed.
With that, Zed took the glass of wine and eased himself into the chair.
No matter what Kirk was planning to say, Zed had to handle things as calmly as he could.
They clinked glasses and drank. Zed looked at Kirk and said with a smile, "Kirk, I didn't know that you know what kind of wine I like."
"Of course I know. Although we aren't blood siblings, our relationship is thicker than blood. Zed, I'm really happy to be your close family."
Kirk raised his glass as he beamed at Zed.
They clinked glasses again and took another swig of wine.
Putting down his glass, Zed raised his eyes to look at Kirk.
It was dark, and he couldn't see his face that clearly.
Nevertheless, he could feel that Kirk was troubled.
The atmosphere was a mix of restlessness and relaxation, dismay and delight. At present, the Kirk in front of Zed was like a stranger to him. He couldn't help but feel love and pity for him.
He was sure that Kirk wanted to talk about Elizabeth with him.
But what made him grieved was that Kirk didn't say anything. They just drank their wine.
The two brothers were estranged because of a woman.
'At least Kirk doesn't treat me the same way as before.
He is scrupulous in front of me, observing my speech and behavior, and becomes worried about personal gains and losses, ' Zed thought.
Noticing his change, Zed sighed at heart.
They had downed half the bottle when Kirk started to get a little drunk.
Then, out of nowhere, Kirk leaned forward, staring intently at Zed. "Zed, I need you to answer my question honestly."
