Kai turned towards Ivy, he grabbed her hand that was on her lap and he looked straight into her eyes as he announced with conviction, "You need someone you can stand in the light alongside and not dim yourself for others.
Thomas coughed in the driver's seat he was uncomfortable with how close Kai was and with what he was saying. Teo felt the same but he said nothing, he squirmed in his seat, he wanted whatever Ivy wanted and whether that was Kai or Noah he would be by her side.
Ivy giggled and gave his hand a squeeze as she smiled and she replied, "Noah does not dim my light, I will always be myself and Noah is aware of this. We don't publicize our relationship for safety reasons, not because he is hiding me."
"What do you mean for safety reasons?" Kai asked, he wondered if something had happened to Ivy. She should not be afraid to be in a relationship..
"Noah has many businesses… most legitimate but some… are not. The ones that aren't tend to make him many enemies. Those enemies see me as a weak target. We both know I am far from weak but… there have been one or two incidents that I wasn't prepared for and it meant I have gotten hurt so in order to keep me safe we keep our relationship quiet." Ivy sat and explained as much as she could without going into too much detail. Her relationship with Noah was hers and it was private. She didn't like to explain things to anyone. But she knew Kai wouldn't let up if she hadn't said something.
Kai bit his lip and stared into her eyes, they were bright and sparkled. She did seem content and happy as she spoke about Noah. Had he missed his chance again? He sighed and let go of her hand as he replied earnestly, "Please let me know if you need me though, whatever you need, whenever you need it I swear that I will be there. I see the happiness in your eyes as you speak about your relationship… but I feel that our meeting after so many years is fate. Some sort of serendipity."
Ivy smiled and glanced out of the window, she stared up at the moon and wondered if Noah was looking up at the same moon right now. She then turned back to Kai and gave her reply, "Yes it is fate, everything in life is. A person either enters your life for a reason or a lesson. We will always be friends and thank you, if I need you I will call you and I will do the same for you."
As he heard her say to friends he was happy but his heart sank at the disappointment. But he had to go with her wishes. He was in love with her but he would have to settle for her friendship because if he didnt he would most definitely lose her and he didn't want to let that happen again.
Thomas coughed again as he felt slightly better after hearing the flow of their conversation. He wanted to break up the seriousness of their interaction so he asked, "So where too?"
Ivy smiled and everyone in the car recognised her mischievous smile and twinkle in her eye. They all dressed her answer.
Thomas reacted first as he said, "No no-no-no. We are not entering another clan's territory."
Kai and Teo didn't say anything, they left the two in the car to converse.
Kai didn't want to put Ivy in danger but if she didn't help he feared he may lose his business or his life.
"Yes we are, aren't you an elite bodyguard? What are you so afraid of?" She was goading Thomas and he knew that.
Thomas couldn't help himself and he puffed up his chest as he responded, "Fine but we do it my way." With that Thomas took the next right at the lights and turned the car as he headed straight for the blood eagles territory.
The blood eagles ran the south side of the city, they were not a large clan. Noah let these small groups run each part of the city as they did not interfere with his business; they were too small for him to bother with.
But for someone like Kai, he had gotten involved with them by mistake. His guards were not trained like Noah's; he would be in danger if he didn't get help from Noah. But now it seemed like his saviour was Ivy.
It had always been Ivy, she saved him from bullies in school and kept him company in the computer science room after school so he didn't have to return home to his empty house. She would then drag him to her house for dinner or they would grab a burger on the way home. He thought she was always there for him and he didn't know what he had done to deserve it. Yes, she had Pierce and Jamie as friends but whenever they showed up he would always make up an excuse to disappear.
Ivy grabbed her bag and took out her phone, she sent a quick text message to Noah before putting her phone away again and returning her eyes to the moon. She thought that Noah must be busy but she hoped he was looking after himself.
Thomas stopped the car in a small alley that faced a club, the lights from the club lit up the sky. The neon red sign read blood eagle. It was an ordinary club but in the basement of the club is where members would meet in the early hours of the morning.
Thomas knew this small clan was not worthy of his presence and he dreaded reporting coming here to him. But somehow Ivy had talked him into another dangerous situation. He turned to Ivy and asked, "Are you sure?" seeing her head nod he sighed, "Okay let's get this over with then."
