It was around 9 pm in Edeladon and Felix was sitting in the backseat of a car. Staring out of the car window, he observed his surroundings. It was a quiet place in the outskirts of the city but the darkness of the night made his vision unclear.
Just the look on his face showed that he seemed to be very tired. After receiving that call a week ago, he hardly had any sleep. Even when he fell asleep after much effort, he was haunted by nightmares. Besides, he always spends his daytime for work and nighttime to dig the incident.
While he was sitting all alone with many different thoughts, the sound of his phone ringing aroused him. His lips curved into a smile when he saw the caller ID. He had always waited for her call but the woman was very busy with her missions. He heard the success of their missions through the news and though he talked with her in the noon, it was just for a minute.
Swiping up the green button, he greeted her with a smile like he always did. "Do you finally have time for me?"
Yelena who just stepped out of the meeting room smiled when she heard him. "Are you upset that I'm always busy?" She teased him.
"Yes. A little." He always loved to play along with her. "Are you tired? You didn't even get to sleep last night."
"I'm fine. Though I'm quite tired in the evening, we have a fun meeting and that liven me up. What about you?" She just realized that she had never asked him first. He was always the one to ask her if she was alright. It suddenly made her felt bad.
Her slight smile slipped when she didn't hear his response. "Are you okay?" Now that she thought about it with more attention, he seemed to be tired. His voice didn't sound like before.
"I'm having a hard time," Felix muttered. He knows that she would be worried if he told her what had happened during a week. That's why he was waiting for her return. But like he had told her in the hospital, sharing their worries was a way to bond them together. She had also once told him that she wanted them to just be themselves, no hiding or acting strong in front of one another.
Yelena who was walking towards a bench under the tree halted her movements when she heard him. Putting her phone closer to her ear, she asked, "What happened? You can tell me everything."
Felix realized that sharing worries needed so much courage! It's always great to share happiness but when it comes to worries, it sure hits different. He took a deep breath and leaned his head towards the window.
"Things are quite hectic here." Thinking about his cousin who was currently having a harder time than him, he continued, "Gina tried to commit suicide on the day you left for Agrana."
"What do you mean?" Her eyes widened at the unexpected news. Suicide?! That's so sudden!
The call he received the night she was unable to reach him, the confession that was pointed to Gina Larson, the suicide attempt and Lexus's messed up situation; he explained to her while she patiently listened to him with her legs still rooted to her place.
"I was so worried about you," was how he concluded his words. If Lexus was right, that means the main culprit was still out there somewhere. That put her life in danger, just because they loved each other.
"I'm sorry for not being there for you. It must be really hard." Among the things that he just said to her, one certain thing made her worry the most. He said that Cara Laria died because of him, because she loved him.
When she watched that video she received from an unknown person, her heart broke when she realized that her brother was held back because of her. If it's not for her, will Marvin declared everything and live? This question never stopped haunting her. She didn't want Felix to went through the same pain!
"I know you struggled too. I hesitate to tell you all this time because I don't want you to lose focus on your duty. Now that I finally tell you, I miss you more than ever before." He said to her in a low voice.
Her comforting embrace and the eyes that always look at him with understanding and most importantly, she, who had always put trust in him no matter what happened; he missed everything about her.
Slowly making her way to the bench, she finally got to sit down. She lifted her head and gazed at the sky. "Where are you now? If you have time, look at the sky. The stars are mesmerizingly beautiful tonight."
Her words made his lips curved into a slight smile. He opened the door of the car and stepped outside. Pressing his back against the car, he glanced at the sky. "You're right. They are truly beautiful, just a little less than you."
Yelena chuckled at his remark. "We still got to see the same sky, stars and moon. That means we are not that far away from one another."
"Are you sure? That means we won't be far from each other even if we are at both ends of the earth." Felix stated with a light chuckle. Just her simple words made him so much at ease!
"Urgh! You're no fun. Didn't you say before that we should always look at things in a positive way? You are such a mood killer!" She bluntly responded which made him smiled wider than before.
"I don't remember. When did I ever say that?" He could vividly recall the time and place when he told her those words but he chose to feign ignorance. He wanted to hear her blunt voice which he rarely heard ever since they started dating. When he was chasing her in the past, he had gotten used to her cold and blunt voice.
"Are you trying to upset me? I already said before that my gun is always ready." Yelena said in a serious tone but she soon burst out into a laugher as she couldn't suppress it anymore. "You don't remember? What kind of joke is that?" She added. Maybe she knew him too well!
"Are you just playing with me?!" He asked as he hopelessly shook his head but her response came as fast as lightning.
"You start it." Her smile slipped a bit when one thing crossed her mind. "You said that you will be coming to Silveren this Saturday, right?" She asked.
"Yeah. What about that?" He simply replied.
"We need to attend a ceremony here in Agrana this Saturday. We will be able to depart for Silveren only on Sunday morning." She wondered how he would felt. He only had time in the weekend and that was also not guaranteed. If there were some royal duties to perform in the weekend, he will need to cancel his other plans.
"Okay. I understand. I'm not sure if there would be some events that seek my presence and if there is none, we can still see each other on Sunday." He paused when Lexus crossed his mind. "You don't have to feel bad. If I go to your country this Saturday, I need to help out Lexus anyway." He calmly said to her.
"Take care then. Don't skip your meals and try to have a sleep even if it's not easy. Plus, don't drink too much." She reminded him like she always did whenever they talked on the phone.
"Okay." He felt reassured when he heard her. He looked to the right and saw Cayden who was making his way to him. "I need to go now. You should also look after yourself, okay? I love you."
"I love you too."
Felix ended the call and turned his head to Cayden who was now standing just next to him. "How did it go?"
Cayden had gone to the house of that deceased security guard who was on duty the night Cara died. He asked some questions to the guard family, hoping that it could be helpful. The Prince wanted to do it himself but everyone in Edeladon knows his face and his identity. It was too much of a risk for him.
"His family don't know much but they told me one thing. They said that before he was murdered, one man used to visit him. They said that they didn't seem to be on good terms as they always argued whenever they met. But they don't know who the man was." Cayden informed him.
"Is there any way to find out the man?" Felix instantly asked.
"They had forgotten the man's face because it's been three years. Besides, they never got to see him clearly. But Your Highness, the daughter of the deceased guard said that she saw the man in this area just a few weeks ago. She is not too sure of other things but she still remembers one thing about him."
Felix darted his eyes to Cayden right away and the latter continued, "There is a tattoo on the left side of his neck. The daughter can't guarantee because his collar covered most of the tattoo. But she said it looked like a scorpion as the part of the tattoo which was revealed resembled the tail of a scorpion."
"A scorpion tattoo," Felix muttered to himself. He needs to find this man.
"Your Highness, their neighbours also told me that the family of the security guard always struggled financially but 4 years ago, their condition had started to improve greatly. The time was the same as Ms. Laria's death." Cayden added, hinting that the late guard might be tipped off by someone rich.
Felix gave a quick thought, wondering what would be his next step. "Send some of our men to keep an eye on the family. They might be in danger." He instructed Cayden and the two men left the place right away.....
