Chapter 92 - I'm Willing To Devote My Whole Life For You

Lexus stepped inside Gina's hospital room where Philip and Sophie were sitting on the bench next to the bed.

It was around 7 in the night and he went there after a whole day of having an investigation. He went to Silveren as an ambassador of Edeladon Army but now, that purpose doesn't matter anymore. He was always a perfect soldier who always prioritized his job but now, all he could think of was the woman who was lying on the bed for more than a week now.

Hearing the sound of the door opening, Sophie's eyes darted to the direction where she saw Lexus who was entering. She showed him a warm smile like a kind and considerate woman she was. However, Philip sat still with his eyes fixated on his cousin. When his lover gently placed her hand on his shoulder, he was finally snapped out of his stupor and he turned his head to the right where Lexus was already standing just next to him.

"You come?" He forced a slight smile and rose from his seat.

"Why won't you return to your hotel and rest for the night? I heard that you hardly sleep ever since you came here." Lexus calmly said to his old friend.

"I'm fine. I can take this much. I know that it's hard for you too." Philip replied. Just one glance at the Brigadier and it was evident that he was not that fine too.

"I'm a soldier, so I bet that I'm much tougher than you. You also need to care for your heart." Lexus walked to the other side of the bed and narrowed his eyes at Gina.

Though he managed to visit her everyday, he never stayed for long because he was desperate to push forward the investigation as fast as possible. But tonight, he wished to spend time beside her for both himself and his old friend.

Glancing at Lexus, Sophie saw through him at once. She then turned her head to Philip. "Lexus is right. Your doctor also instructed you not to tire out yourself. So, let's go and rest for tonight and we will come back here tomorrow." She holds Philip's hand and looked at him with a reassuring smile.

Philip glanced at his longtime partner who always stayed with him, be it joy or sorrow. Though he was a man with heart disease whose tomorrow was never promised, she was always there for him. He knows that she would be scared and also had a hard time because of him. She was just a woman too yet she never showed him even if she was discouraged at times!

He also realized that he was being too selfish. She stayed with him the whole time and she must be tired too but she never once complained. "Okay. Let's do that." He holds her hand tighter than she did and a slight smile appeared on his tired face.

"Then I will trust you with my cousin for tonight." He shifted his gaze to Lexus and the latter nodded. Then the couple took their things and left for the hotel.

Sitting down in the bench beside the bed, Lexus holds Gina's hand and stared at her face. Though the woman was in a coma for more than a week, he finds her more beautiful than ever!

In the past, he was always so busy with his work. Being a soldier, he rarely had free time. That's why he never had much time for her. But if he got a chance to see her, he never missed it.

He always finds her strange. He knows that she likes his cousin, the Crown Prince while she knows that he loves her. Yet she never made an effort to distance herself from him.

If it's other women, they won't want to involve themselves with a guy who likes them but Gina did the opposite. She always treated him well and never brushed him off. Maybe that's what kept him going on for 11 years. He never loses hope in her.

The things that Philip told her suddenly crossed his mind. "Do you mean that, Gina? Are you really glad to have me by your side? If that's true, then I will do that for the rest of my life. I never got tired of it."

"You don't have to be afraid wondering if I would hate you. That will never happen. Do you know why? The world didn't know the other version of you, only I see that."

"Gina, if you ever wake up, I will leave behind everything else and only live for you. You may not know but I'm willing to devote my whole life for you if you ever choose to take my hand."

"The doctor said that you will not be able to walk again. It will be hard but don't be afraid. I will be your legs for the rest of your life."

He quietly stared at her for a while until the light pressure on his hand made him startled. He instantly withdrew his hand from hers as if he was shocked by a light voltage of electric!

With a stupefied face, his eyes trailed to the woman's hand and saw the little movement of her finger. He abruptly rose from his seat while glancing at the hand. "Gina! Are you awake? Can you hear me?"

When he was back to his sense, he realized that this was not the time to be all flustered. He took one step to the head of the bed and pressed a buzzer which will alert the doctors and nurses on duty.

In no time, two doctors and nurses rushed inside the room to check the patient's condition.

"She moved her finger. I think she's awake." Lexus's said to them with a nervous face. Yes, he was nervous. He hoped that she would wake up yet he was afraid that his hopes would be let down!

"Ms. Larson? Can you see me?" The doctor bent down a bit to look at Gina who was now slowly opening her eyes.

"Can you nod if you hear my voice?" The doctor said to her again and after a few seconds, Gina nod just once.

"She's awake." The doctor confirmed with a relieved smile. Checking her pulse and her current condition, the doctor told the nurses to prepare for all necessary test and scan.

"Her condition is stable than expected. This is great news. We will conduct all necessary examinations tomorrow." The doctor said to Lexus who was standing just behind him.

"Thank you, doctor." Lexus glanced at Gina who was barely keeping her eyes opened and he walked forward to the bed while the doctors and nurses left the room.

He stood still with his gaze fixated on her and when he noticed that she was looking at him, he finally sat down. He reached out his hand to her when he saw her lifeless eyes. But he couldn't bring himself to touch any single part of her. Now that she was finally conscious, he didn't dare anymore!

"Gina, why did you do that? You are already hospitalized for more than a week." He narrowed his eyes on the floor and nervously clenched his fist. "What troubled you? Can you tell me the truth?"

There was no response. Instead, she keeps on staring at him with barely opened eyes. It made him lifted his head and glanced at her once again. "Gina, please say something. How much does it hurt? What made you do that?" He calmly said to her.

But still, she didn't respond and calmly stared at him. It seemed like she didn't even hear him!

In a split second, his face turned all anxious. What does this mean? Why won't she say anything?! When one thing crossed his mind, his eyes widened all at once. "Gina, can you call my name just once?" He asked but when she kept quiet, he abruptly rose from his seat once again. "I must talk to the doctor."

Losing no time, he rushed out of the room and went to the doctor who was in charge of Gina. He explained what just happened and he returned to Gina's room with the doctor.

Lexus was told to wait outside for a while during the doctor examined Gina's condition. After a few minutes, the doctor came out and asked Lexus to come to his office for a minute.

"What's wrong with Gina, Doctor? Is it something bad?" Lexus immediately asked as he took a seat in the chair opposite to the doctor.

The doctor sighed when he glanced at his anxious face. "Judging from what I saw, she has aphasia." The doctor started.

Lexus was confused. He didn't know about that disease. When Gina didn't say anything, he thought that she had lost her memory!

"Patients with aphasia disease lose their ability to talk. While some are only unable to talk, a serious case can make the patient lost their ability to understand the language, verbal and written." The doctor explained to Lexus who sat still with a perplexed face.

"Then what is Gina's case?" Lexus asked.

"She understands what we said but she is unable to talk. We need to check to see if she lost her ability to understand written language as well." The doctor replied with an apologetic face.

"This disease is mainly caused by brain damage and stroke but that's not in her case. She only has a slight injury on her head and that's not a serious one." The doctor added.

"What is the reason?" Lexus asked. His voice was low and hopeless.

"Psychological trauma and extreme depression. She attempted suicide, so that's the most acceptable reason in Ms. Larson's case." The doctor paused a while and continued. "If it's temporary, she might be able to recover within five to six months but if it's not, the chance of not recovering is high."
