It was that man who knew she possessed the Heaven Connecting Tower, and also the same man who gave her the Ring of Life!
Indeed, enemies were bound to meet on a narrow road!
Having verified that this man was extremely dangerous, she decided it was best not to go near him.
Suddenly, that man opened his eyes, a stern glint flashed across them. Before Mu Qianyue even had the chance to think to herself, ‘Oh no!’, it was already too late. Just as she was about to turn around and flee, when suddenly, a warm and large hand grabbed her shoulder before she made it to the shore. The man’s deep and alluring voice rang in her ear. “Thinking of running away?”
Shoving her left leg backwards, in an incredibly devious move, Mu Qianyue aimed straight for the man’s lower body!
The man visibly halted his actions. He raised his hand and grabbed Mu Qianyue’s ankle. “Are you trying to make me die without descendants? Indeed, women have vicious hearts.”
Failing in her attack, Mu Qianyue fell into the man’s embrace instead. A faint snow lotus fragrance entered her senses. It felt kind of familiar. Hm… she seemed to know this scent from somewhere. However, she couldn’t recall where.
Alas, it wasn’t the time to be conflicted about all this now. She had to think of a way to leave this man. This man was way too dangerous!
Yet, Mu Qianyue wasn’t able to break free of him and despite her struggles, she was instead held firmly in place by him.
“Let go!” Mu Qianyue growled with a dark countenance.
“Didn’t you come here to fling yourself into my arms? Why else did you secretly ambush me when I was bathing?” Underneath that mask, the man’s lips curled slightly.
What the hell! This person is way too narcissistic!
Mu Qianyue couldn’t resist cussing internally. She came here for the Raging Fire Spring, okay? Who wanted to secretly ambush him while he was bathing?!
“Are you letting go or not?” She spat out the words between clenched teeth.
“Although I have no lack of women, I don’t turn down women who throw themselves at me.” The man’s malevolent voice rang in Mu Qianyue’s ear, jest in his tone.
“Still not letting go? Alright, I’m no pushover either!” With a movement of her hand, a silver needle appeared between Mu Qianyue’s fingers and she swiftly pierced it into a certain acupoint on the man’s waist.
The man’s body stiffened, then froze like a wooden puppet. Only then did Mu Qianyue raise her brows, a provocative and sly glint in her eyes. “You should have let go when I told you to do so. Instead, you had to force my hand!”
She gripped the man’s chin and mocked him softly.
Mu Qianyue couldn’t see his expression under his mask, only that there was a deep glint in his black eyes as he said, “Actually, I’m not interested in a little beansprout like you…”
Mu Qianyue’s countenance darkened instantly. How dare this man be so cheeky when his life was in her hands!
But Mu Qianyue had no intention of killing him. Although this person gave her a dangerous vibe, she didn’t detect any murderous intent coming from him. That meant he wasn’t planning on killing her. Moreover, she was the one who secretly sneaked into his Raging Fire Spring, so she was in the wrong in the first place.
Hence, Mu Qianyue prepared to simply leave. Just as she was climbing up from the Raging Fire Spring, all of a sudden, the man speedily removed the needle at his waist and accurately pierced it into an acupoint on her waist. “Since you’re already here, why are you in such a hurry to leave?”
Mu Qianyue’s countenance changed. How could he be fine?! He was even able to remove the needle and restrain her instead!
Unable to budge an inch, Mu Qianyue felt depressed. He must have been feigning it earlier! His aim was to grab hold of her while she wasn’t paying attention! Shameless!
The even more ludicrous thing was, she actually thought she had him frozen in place!
How careless of her!
“What exactly do you want?” As she sensed no malicious intent coming from him, Mu Qianyue could only compromise. She softened her tone. “It’s indeed my fault for coming here to soak in your Raging Fire Spring without your permission. But I have my reasons for doing so. I can compensate you.”
“Do I look like someone who lacks money?” The man leisurely laid in the pool with an idle expression, his lips lightly curled in a pleased manner underneath his mask. “How about this? You wait on me while I bath and change. If I’m in a good mood, I’ll let you leave.”
His arrogant words made Mu Qianyue gnash her teeth. Was he ordering her about, treating her as his servant? Alright, since she was in his territory, she had no choice but to lower her head. Moreover, the other party was way more formidable than her! She was a person who could adapt to her circumstances.
Thus she nodded. “Deal.”
Following that, the man removed the silver needle from the acupoint on her waist, a casual tone in his deep voice. “Don’t play tricks with me. Or else, if I get angry, I might just throw you into the Ghost Cave.”
Mu Qianyue, “…”
She quietly picked up the cloth by the pool and started scrubbing him. Alas, this man was clearly trying to make things difficult for her. One moment he complained she wasn’t using enough force, and the next, he accused her of being too vigorous. His criticisms of this and that infuriated her so much she nearly exploded.
“Massage my shoulders.” The man shut his eyes, seemingly enjoying the process very much.
Mu Qianyue had no choice but to do as she was told. A while later, seeing that he wasn’t moving and his breathing even, as though he had fallen asleep, the delighted Mu Qianyue stealthily got to her feet and sprinted off. As she ran, she retrieved her outer shirt from the Heaven Connecting Tower and put it on. In the blink of an eye, she disappeared from the palace.
The man, who was supposedly soundly asleep, slowly opened his eyes, a deep and sly smile flashing across his eyes…
…
Once out of the palace, Mu Qianyue realized she had lost her way!
Even after going around in circles for half a day, she still wasn’t able to make her way out! How on earth was she meant to get out of here?!
As she looked up at the bright moon up in the sky, she frowned slightly. Something was wrong. This wasn’t a simple case of losing her way. With her incredible memory, how could she possibly lose her way?
This looked like a maze set up within the peaceful-looking Netherworld Palace!
“Jie jie…” Suddenly, sharp and awful laughter rang behind her. Ear-piercing and horrifying, it sounded particularly frightening on a dark night like this.
Mu Qianyue narrowed her eyes and, turning her head, saw that two blood-red figures had appeared behind her since God-knows-when. Those figures were over eight foot tall, their greyish-green faces covered with dense spider web-like red tattoos. Their appearances were grotesque and horrifying, just like ferocious ghosts!
In spite of her steady nature, she couldn’t help but feel shocked. These weren’t human, they were clearly ghosts!
“Miss, our master extends his invitation,” one of them spoke. His voice was high-pitched and slow, like the howl of a ghost.
Against her will, Mu Qianyue’s scalp turned numb. Could she choose not to go? She wondered what her chances of success would be if she attempted to flee from these blood-red figures before her.
“Little Beansprout, these Soul-Devouring Beings of mine come from the 16th level of hell. They specialize in eating human flesh and drinking human blood. Of course, their favorite has got to be devouring human souls. Ooh… counting the dates, it’s been a long time since they’ve feasted on fresh meat.” The Ghost King’s evil, cold and arrogant voice rang in the dark and eerie space, yet the man himself was nowhere to be seen.
As he finished speaking, the two Soul-Devouring Beings before him cooperatively revealed two pearly white rows of teeth, their pair of eyes glistening with a sinister red glow in the dark.
Soul-Devouring Beings?
So these blood-red ghosts were called Soul-Devouring Beings!
The corners of Mu Qianyue’s eyes twitched. It seemed like she had no choice but to follow those two Soul-Devouring Beings as she was instructed.
Underneath that calm facade on that fair, exquisite and petite face, her heart was overwhelmed with emotion. It seemed like the Ghost King had known she was coming! It was possible that what happened at the Raging Fire Spring was staged deliberately too!
Sh*t! At the thought of this, Mu Qianyue couldn’t help but cuss in her heart.
As the two Soul-Devouring Beings weaved through the main hall, she could see two uniform rows of identical Soul-Devouring Beings standing on each side of the hall. From time to time, groups of Soul-Devouring Beings could be seen moving outside the hall. With identical appearances and heights, Mu Qianyue nearly thought that they were clones.
F*ck!
So many Soul-Devouring Beings!
Did the Ghost King have some weird fetish? How perverse was that exactly! A timid person would long have fainted.
This scene didn’t look that much better than hell. No wonder it was named Netherworld Palace.
Moreover, she didn’t detect any breathing from these Soul-Devouring Beings. F*ck, so that was why she didn’t detect any breathing earlier on. Because ghosts didn’t need to breathe!
Regardless, since she was already here, she wasn’t scared of that Ghost King. If he had wanted to kill her, he would long have done so. There wasn’t a need for him to go to all this trouble.
The two Soul-Devouring Beings stopped before the door to a hall and respectfully pushed it open, then retreated to the sides and announced in their sharp, horrifying voices, “Miss, we’ve arrived.”
Mu Qianyue paused for a moment, then went in.
On the soft couch sat a man clad in a black brocade robe, his shirt semi-open, revealing his exquisite collarbones. His jet-black hair casually fell over his back, emanating a fatally seductive charm under the faint lighting.
At the sight of her entry, the man raised his head, the edges of his eyes raised in an imperceptible arc, his black pupils suffused with a strange purple glow, making for an enchanting sight.
Mu Qianyue was dazed for a moment. Was this some kind of fatal seduction show?
What sort of a face laid under that mask? Ugh. For some reason, it made her yearn to probe deeper!
“You’re the Ghost King?” Recalling the situation in the Raging Fire Spring earlier, Mu Qianyue’s expression darkened in fury. So he had been playing her for a fool all along!
“Yes.” The Ghost King chuckled, his voice as alluring as his appearance.
This pleasant-sounding and enticing voice made Mu Qianyue involuntarily tremble. But when the image of those blood-red figures popped into her mind, her interest died down. Perhaps underneath that mask, it was the same greyish-green face covered with creepy red tattoos!
Forget it, curiosity killed the cat. It was better to store away her curiosity.
“Why did you come back after going one round? I knew you couldn’t bear to part with me.” The man spoke in a clear and slightly raspy voice that exuded a captivating demonic charm.
Mu Qianyue’s mouth twitched. Couldn’t bear to part with him? Please. She was clearly forced to return, okay?
“Just tell me what it will take for you to let me off.”
Above, the man got up from his soft couch and strode down. “Little Beansprout, you have aroused my interest. I’ve decided to talk to you about life.”
The speechless Mu Qianyue rolled her eyes. Who the hell wants to discuss life with you!
“I have nothing to talk to you about.”
“But I have things to say to you,” the Ghost King said with a smile, “We can have a long chat throughout the night.”
“You black mountain old demon. Who wants to chat with you all night long?” What else but a black mountain old demon would breed a nest of ghosts and monsters?
“Black mountain old demon? This name is not worthy of me!” the man said calmly.
Mu Qianyue scoffed in disdain. What a narcissist!
“Then may I ask, what other instructions do you have for me?” she asked with her lips curled.
