Alex looked to the sky and smiled, A red streak of light shot down towards him as the air seemed to rumble. A huge black gate appeared in front of Alex. It seemed to be different than before, and Alex instantly noticed that fact. Alex jumped back as he looked at his surroundings, The entire city seemed to be lighted up by the red glow but after a certain distance, the glow seemed to have no effect.
"Kid, There seems to be a method of suppressing the gate within a small area so you don't need to worry about anyone seeing it. You can go all out without the fear of being seen!" Hades spoke in a proud voice.
Alex smiled when he heard Hades and looked towards the gate. He was ready to attack the reapers as soon as they popped out however, The gates didn't seem to have any. Alex stared at the gate as it seemed to hum. After a few minutes of waiting, An impatient Alex walked a bit closer to the gate, hoping to find the reason for the lack of reapers.
As soon as Alex came closer to the gate, He heard a voice speak, "It looks like we were called once again…"
Hearing that voice, Alex looked at the gate in confusion. After a few seconds, Alex finally came to the conclusion and the source of the voice, "The big reapers!" He said to himself.
'The last time I did the growing gates, a reaper seemed to have been summoned as well but after looking at everyone there, it was uninterested in fighting anyone. Last time, I was only a C ranked awakened and the two who were with me were A ranked… The thing seems to be different this time, however, It's only me here and I'm a lot more powerful than how powerful midnight and buster were at that time.' Alex smiled with anticipation.
He remembered the day he was taken into the gate like it was just yesterday, the pain he felt as he could no longer move as his lower body detached itself. His own consciousness slowly blurring as he lost blood. The fear of losing his own life at that moment. Every single emotion had filled him up at that moment and it was only due to those reapers.
Alex's eyes gave off a crimson glow that seemed even more unsettling than the glow of the gate itself. He looked into the void with anticipation.
"HMMM, It seems like I was called by the blessed one indeed…" The voice spoke as the gates started to rumble. "I guess I'll have to check if you're even worthy of me coming to kill you personally!" The voice laughed as a dozen reapers ran out of the gate, charging towards Alex.
Alex scuffed at the reapers, he shot one and could instantly tell that they were all B ranked. "The powers are easy to deal with but the numbers might provide a pain…" Alex seemed to be a little bit annoyed as he watched a few dozen more reapers run out of the gate.
Without even noticing it, over 40 reapers came from the gates. Alex wanted to count the exact amount of different types of reapers but he wasn't given the time to even breathe properly. He watched over two dozen reapers rushed towards him. A dozen arrows flew through the sky towards him as well. These reapers were out for blood and Alex was their only target.
"Well… Fuck" Alex knew this would be difficult. 'Kid, This will be difficult indeed but I also need you to save some power… You need to not run out of mana and should save up your potions so fight with patience and never rush this out. I have a feeling that once you kill these reapers, you'll have to face that big one.' Hades explained.
Alex nodded, He already had that idea himself. He took out his guns as the close ranged reapers jumped to attack him.
*Bang* *Bang*
Alex shot his gun while jumping backward, onto the buildings. A few reapers fell to the ground but seeing the dead comrades, The remaining reapers seemed to be even angrier and their powers looked to increase. Seeing this, Alex jumped to another building to take some time thinking, "It looks like the more I kill, the more powerful they will get… However, for now, It only takes one shot into their heads to kill them off properly." He noted as he shot 2 more reapers down.
Slowly but surely, Alex took his time with killing the reapers, He didn't take the frontal approach to things and instead opted for jumping to the buildings and shooting the reapers from afar. However, as Alex had guessed, The reapers became more and more powerful. And now, they seemed to not be as affected by Alex's bullets. It no longer took a bullet in the brain to kill them.
"Well, I could jump in to fight but… If one bullet isn't enough, It'll just take two!" Alex smiled as he kept his distance and did the battle the long but safe way, or at least he assumed.
The battle was no longer as safe as he had thought. The Long range bow reapers seemed to not be able to hit Alex before as he dodged them easily. However, after being more powerful, they seemed to shoot faster and with power.
At that range, they needed to volley the arrow for it to reach Alex, which was easy to dodge but now, it was a direct shot towards Alex.
Alex watched at the arrows he used to look above him to dodge now came at him directly. They were no longer aiming above hoping that the arrows would hit Alex by luck. They were out for blood.
Alex knew he had to do something about this. He continued with his approach of creating a distance between himself and the reapers and picking them off with his guns. He created a plan while doing so to take on the ever increasing power of the reapers.
