It became a silent night in the inn that Ellena and Aaron stopped at. However, after some time in the late-night, some groups of people bombarded the building.
"Well! Too good for you to continue in your business. Though we don't care, you need to pay up!" A buff guy exclaimed as soon as he entered the building with a number of goons behind him.
Aaron raised his eyebrow. Finally, concluded that the reason the city had become so quiet was because of them. And since they have some confidence to do it in the city and less to bombard a building without hiding their identities, someone powerful is behind them.
"I guess I can smell some nasty background with this," Aaron mumbled as he hovered over the people who were approaching the receptionist.
The receptionist and the innkeeper became agitated as the people entered with intimidating eyes on them.
"They are oppressing people.. What I truly hate." Aaron said.
"Get the money! The Lord asks for the monthly tax! Show your funds!"
"No, please... My father is sick, we need to buy medicine for him."
The buff guy stopped and suddenly changed his expression to be less intimidating. He slowly approached the desk with his face starting to take pity on her.
"Is that so?..." he asked while his voice was down.
The young lady nodded as the agitation started to disappear. But she was a fool to believe it.
The face of the buff guy formed into a cunning smile as he grabbed the neck of the innkeeper.
"Do you think I give a shit? Get. the. money." he said with his face intimidating the innkeeper.
"Y-Yeshk."
The buff guy dropped the body of the innkeeper. While the innkeeper gasped for air, her eyes turned into a rage but she was hiding it as she was still scared that it might be another reason for them to hurt him.
While the goons at the back watched the scene, they laughed after the innkeeper left them with her body quivering.
It was a harsh treatment for someone with a pretext of collecting tax. And because of it, Aaron couldn't handle the rage he was feeling. Such a type of person, whom he despised to his core, he couldn't ignore what he had just witnessed.
Just seeing it, a memory clicked back in his memory. A memory that he wanted to forget and something that he felt didn't really happen. But that memory wasn't that clear, but it was clear enough for his feelings to create such an emotion.
Oppressors. For some reason, they exist in any place. Even though it was hidden, they still exist at the core of the world's society. And such things could be hidden under a kind pretext.
Some in the modern world do this, especially politicians that could share their power with their family.
However, in this instance, it was different from the type of oppression that he knows. This is something that mostly happens in the streets, hurting the weak.
"This is the reason why there are fewer interesting people in the world because their wings are cut before they can even spread them. I don't mean it physically oppression, but any type of oppression can't be overlooked."
"Summon, Cules."
In an instant, a huge creature appeared in the middle of the room of the building. Such stupidity, but Aaron couldn't care anymore. He is currently enraged with what he saw, which means that he needs to clean things up for a while.
A huge creature with brown fur squashed the body of the buff guy's goon. It was a perfect surprise attack, but not entirely a stealth type. However, it's not important, Aaron wanted to kill them immediately.
"Cules, eat them and don't leave any drop," he said and in a mere second, Cules's paws started to move at a fast speed.
The eyes of the man who entered the inn were filled with terror. They couldn't react to the movements of a broaxen that suddenly appeared.
Even one of them wet his pants in horror.
A few more seconds, already half was eaten and Cules wasn't stopping. He swooped down on every one of them and immediately swallowed them without chewing. After a few moments, the inn was finally clean with the goons' presence.
"They couldn't even shout for help because of fear. A perfect target." he smiled, then hovered over Cules's location.
"Will you clean the area, please? The innkeeper will be going back soon, so at least dry their piss." Aaron said to Cules.
Cules just whined and didn't complain about it. He created a ball of water and splashed it over the place where the piss was. And after it, he extracted the water particles and turned them into the air.
"Now, Unsummon."
Just before the innkeeper returned, Cules had already disappeared, but something was different with the innkeeper. Her head was down and she was looking at the floor while walking. Her hands were also at her back as if there was something lurking behind them.
"So it was like that. Still, I think it's obvious." Aaron uttered as he saw that there was a knife behind the innkeeper's back.
It was as if the innkeeper was ready to die and would bet her life just to keep the money. It wasn't because they hurt her, but it was for the reason that they wanted to take the money.
The money that they saved just to buy medicine for their father. If they take it, nothing will be left and it's better to die instead of suffering.
She was also fixed with the thought that even she dies, it's better to bring one with her.
When she already arrived at the desk, she was perplexed, looking at the empty room where there were buff guys supposed to be waiting for her.
"They left..." then she sighed and, after a few seconds of realizing what she had just thought, she dropped her knife.
As if she was hit by reality, she cried with her knees trembling and eventually surrendered.
"I think I still have things to settle," Aaron mumbled and left the inn for a walk.
