15 Chapter 15 They Are So Screwed...

"Since you saved my life, I owe you so I will go wherever you go. Now tell me about yourself!"

Jake spit out the bite in his mouth as he turned to look at her.

He collected himself and then said to her calmly, "I'm not going back so if you are going to follow me, you will stay with me in the woods forever."

The pleading look on her face instantly melted away as she thought about living out in the wilderness alone with another guy forever.

'Is he crazy? Why would someone so powerful seclude themselves out here in the middle of nowhere? Does he not know about the changes that have occurred in the world so far?'

Jake thought about what happened when he left school and went to Canada. He talked to his mother and father about what had happened. Their attitudes on what was going on with him made it very clear that they thought he was insane. The worst part was when he showed them that he could fly and lift their car up. They believed that he was a freak.

"Look Mom! I'm not lying. Watch me."

Jake ran over to the pickup truck in the parking lot of Boston University. With one hand, he grabbed and lifted the truck into the air and then caught it with both hands, the truck being held above him.

His mother's eyes were wide with absolute shock and his father backed away from him. The proud look that Jake expected from his parents wasn't there. Instead what he saw was terror. Terror that was deep in their souls.

"That's not my son! What the hell are you and what have you done with my son!" Shouted his mother as she collapsed to the ground, holding her head and rocked back and forth.

Jake turned to his father but he looked at him as if he couldn't recognize him at all. He was about to say something but then his demeanor changed. His eyes became cold and he looked at his parents one last time before running away from them.

The memory came and the wound on his soul that was healing opened up again. He told himself that he wouldn't leave the woods and go back to society because he realized that his powers, his system... they made him different from everyone else.

No matter where he goes from here on out, he will be different.

And that scares him.

Taylor looks at Jake and realizes that the man is looking into the fire, absentmindedly turning the boat on the stick, and sees within his eyes that something is missing from those eyes. It's like he has emotional baggage that is weighing him down and he can't seem to get past.

Jake, snaps out of his trance and smiles to her as if nothing just happened. Taylor did a double-take and she could have sworn that what she saw earlier happened but from his different demeanor, it was as if she hallucinated.

"So where are you from?" she asks him.

After a long pause, he says, "I don't want to talk about that."

She understood that he must have had a hard time back home or something like that so she stopped asking him questions. They ate silently across from one another and the night soon turned into morning.

Taylor woke up to Jake shaking her awake. She groggily got up and was about to speak but Jake silenced her quickly.

"I hear someone."

Those 3 words seemed to shock her as she couldn't hear anything. Her ability allows her to read the mind of any being within 30 meters of her but she couldn't register anything around her. Then, finally, a group of people could be hear as they walked through the forest in their direction.

"There's a clearing up ahead. It appears on the map. See?" said a young overly excited guy.

A rough voice responded and said, "Stop being so fucking loud. That damn cross dressing whore is somewhere around here. The last confirmation we got was that she was hunting some large wolf Fiends around here. With her little ability she could have survived but she has to be wounded."

Several voices agreed to that statement and Jake looked at Taylor. She did look like she dressed like a guy when he first saw her but now that he knew she was a girl she at least let her hair down, regaining her feminine appearance.

Taylor tried to avoid Jake's invasive look but then the group of people walked through the tree line. Wearing similar clothing, it was obvious that they belonged in the same organization.

There were 5 guys and 2 girls in the group. The guys were all middle aged men and 4 of them had hulking physiques, much larger than "Clark Kent's" but not as aesthetically pleasing to look at.

The one guy who stood in the middle was clearly the leader as both girls surrounded him. He was good looking, built like Christiano Renaldo, but he had a smirk permanently on his face. If Jake was to say what he looked like, he basically looked like a douche.

Both sides locked eyes with each other, and the group froze while Jake and Taylor stood up.

The leader of the other group grinned sinisterly when he saw Taylor but then saw that her armor was slashed and the grin turned into a full on smile.

He starts to walk forward and puts his arms out towards them as if he was performing some grand act. "Taylor, how good to see you here! And lookie here! You found yourself someone to protect you. I hope you said goodbye to your parents before you ran away. I'm going to let you in on a secret..."

At this time, he was within 10 feet of them. Taylor's face turned pale and she started shaking, fists clenched.

"Ahhh I see. So you read my mind. Well I guess I don't have to say it out loud for your new boyfriend to hear."

She was visually shaken but he didn't stop.

"There is a much better candidate than you to take over your family business. In the end, due to the assassination failing, they hired us to finish you off."

Jake rolled his eyes and sighed. 'Bad guys love to talk huh?'

The guy turned to look at him, eyes narrowing as he saw the man who was clearly unaffected or is just too stupid to realize what is going happen to him for being with her. They have 7 people and there is one and a half of them. To him, Taylor is injured and there has been a proven statistical fact that out of every 100 with powers, only 1 would have an "S" ranked power, and he has one.

To him, there is no way that Jake would also have one when he is clearly living out in the woods instead of living it up in society.

'These two are so screwed...' they all thought.

'These guys are so screwed...' thought Taylor as she remembered how easily he crushed those wolves...
